Excellent video. This is truly an insane update to the SAT. On the one hand I think it's great to embrace computer tools which people will freely use in real life and it's silly to train students as if that's not the case. But on the other hand, you literally do not need to know anything about algebra in order to solve ANY equation. That is nuts!
It's important to train students to both be able to use computer tools and by hand What are you gonna do if you forgot your calculator or if the light cuts off?
Equivalent expressions problems still require algebra so it's not COMPLETELY gone. In my opinion, DESMOS itself is fine, but a lot of the PROBLEMS that are solved with DESMOS aren't good. Finding the vertex of a quadratic or the solution to a system of equations doesn't say much about your logical thinking or problem solving abilities, with or without DESMOS.
Tho it is worth noting that most of these problems could be solved by a normal Ti-84’s graphing features if you learn them well enough, it’s just a bit too clunky/slow to be the meta
@learnsatmath Also, brother, equivalent expressions problems don’t require algebra so long as the answer is multiple choice. Just subtract the answer choices from the first expression and the one that’s equal to 0 is the equivalent one. You can do this really quickly by subtracting a function from a list of functions like [x, x^2] - x^2. I’m in college now (thank goodness) but I used this strategy on my Ti-84 when I took the SAT.

Thank you so much man, I've tried to practice to get my score higher than a 710 (part of that is bc I use desmos), but I always run out of time on the second module. This video kept me entertained and made my brain willing to listen to what you say. I'll practice these extra techniques tonight to do last minute prep for tomorrow morning! Thanks a lot and wish me luck!
Thank you so much! I watched this video twice, once like three days before my SAT and another time on the car ride to the testing center, and it helped so much! My math score went from 690 to 760 despite not studying 😅. Must admit I got super lucky with the problems though. I was able to plug a good 80% of them into Desmos!
I actually slightly disagree with this video, towards the end he says that you shouldn't use the calculator on certain questions, but you really should be using Desmos whenever you can to check your answers, because if you made a mistake when calculating the answer then Desmos would identify the mistake. The only exception to this would be if you were low on time or if the answer was incredibly obvious.
Wow. I knew Desmos was pretty useful, and was surprised when it was on the SAT, but I never knew it could be this useful. I'll definitely have to rewatch this video again the day I take the test.
I'm taking mine Dec 7th. I got an 1150 on a practice test at the end of the summer right before school. I hadn't done anything in few months. Who knew that something I never had an interest in was going to be my downfall in one of the most important tests of my life?
Yes, desmos truly is the best! I'm so glad someone is *finally* putting this out there! People really underestimate that little gem. And with how dedicated the desoms team is, I'm sure it will become way more powerful in the future. I really can't wait to finally be able to make an MMORPG in desmos. It's only about 10 years away. Only 10 years. I'll still be pretty young in 10 years, so that's very good news. Especially since I only have to wait ONCE.
Taking it tomorrow I'll let you know how I do! Praying for a 1500+, have not studied at all except for the August one! Lets goooooo time to lock in I'll lyk. Great vid btw bro
Did you find the right answer? I need helps? Umm yeah I thought it was 0 because I just took the smallest two intervals 0-20 on A and 0-20 on B and averaged them to get 15-15=0 which is the difference I guess. . .
@@adambacon5314the intervals should be by 10 so you would look at the difference of 10-20 on the first graph and 10-20 on the second graph and see that they are only different by 1

At 10:54 you can't actually plug in the possibly answers choices for x into the variable a. The answer choices happens to include -8 but didn't have to. The final answer is x=6. methods: 1.If you use trial and error in Desmos you might eventually get to a=-8. Once you have a=-8 you can solve the system or just look at the point. (X,Y) The x-coordinate of the point is 6. x=6 2.or (without trial and error and, also, little use of Desmos) since it is only a one point intersection we know b^2 -4ac = 0 That's part of the quadratic equation. The square root of 0 is 0. now you have just x=-b/2a x=6 (the rules for intersections btw linear and quadratic: if it was a 2-point intersection then b^2-4ac>0 if one point then b^2-4ac=0 if no point intersect then b^2-4ac
Oh very good catch. Can't believe I missed that. Your 2nd option is probably the optimal approach, but it's worth mentioning that you need to rewrite the equation as 0 = 2x^{2}-24x+64-a before getting -b/2a.
You could also use calculus to solve it. Because the first equation is a quadratic and the second is linear and it says they only intersect once, the second equation must be a tangent line to the first. You can tell the slope of the second equation is 3. You can then take the derivative of the first equation, set it equal to 3, and solve for x. 4x-21=3 so x=6
honestly, i just used derivatives. 3 seconds without desmos. but then again, that isn't in the skill level required in the sat so its kinda like using a calculator for basic addition and subtraction.
10:54 if you get into this situation and you don't wanna do trial and error, you can: 1. plot the quadratic as f(x) 2. type in f'(x) = m (m is the slope of the line, in this case 3), then record the intersection of the vertical line and the parabola 3. Type the line equation onto desmos, replacing y with the y coordinate of the intersection earlier, x with the x coordinate, and a with x so desmos solves the equation for you. The x that comes out of this is the answer (in this case, it's -8)
At 10:54 you can't actually plug in the possibly answers choices for x into the variable a. The answer choices happens to include -8 but didn't have to. @@aynakhankhojamuratova6266 He's using Calculus. Basically the slope of the tangent line at a point on a graph is equal to the value of the derivative at that point. So the derivative of f(x), which is f'(x), must be 3 (slope of the 2nd equation) at their point of intersection b/c when they intersect once, the line is a tangent line. Wouldn't recommend memorizing this unless you have learned Calculus.

It's important to train students to both be able to use computer tools and by hand
What are you gonna do if you forgot your calculator or if the light cuts off?
Equivalent expressions problems still require algebra so it's not COMPLETELY gone. In my opinion, DESMOS itself is fine, but a lot of the PROBLEMS that are solved with DESMOS aren't good. Finding the vertex of a quadratic or the solution to a system of equations doesn't say much about your logical thinking or problem solving abilities, with or without DESMOS.
Yeah, I thought they would put some kind of open source (similar to ti-84) graphing calculator emulator and not fricking Desmos lol
Craaaaaaaazy vid bro, spent few hours just writing everything I heard in your vid down. Glad I didnt take the June SAT and decided to take the august one, this video came in time.
Is Desmos allowed in every SAT tests after the August one?! 😭?!?
@@kittymiaowmiaow Ya, there have been no announcements its being removed. I just said what I said as this video is recent and I wouldnt have taken the SAT with the knowledge in this video
@@ok_e3w thanks a lot 💖 I'm in Asia and my teacher just teaches us the regular calculating method without using this "desmos", this is soooo new to me. Thanks for answering, have a nice score bro 🔥
@@kittymiaowmiaow Wish you the best as well, desmos is really a gamechanger for alot of the test when you know how to use it 💯
been waiting for someone to tell everyone about this!! you literally can put 3/4 of the test into desmos if you just know how to use it and ive been telling all of my friends and they either don't believe me or don't have the patience to learn
Low-key this is the best desmos explanation ever
YOURE SO FUNNY I LOVE YOU (12 hours before my SAT)
How was it? Your score pls 😭
wait, they give u a fucking graphic calc and some dudes still fail tf
still gotta know how to use it lol its not chatgpt
my teacher stalked all of us in our test room and said we weren't allowed to use it ... still made a 660 though but i literally could have gotten 700+ if i had desmos or maybe im just lazy idk

excellent video
im retaking my sat in about a week which is fun
i used desmos last time (and it was a godsend since i had misplaced my graphing calculator then)
i got a 740 FOR THE MATH SECTION but am hoping to get even higher
Watching this 15 minutes before I walk into the testing room, you're a lifesaver!
What’s hour score pls? 😭
I’m printing out a screenshot of this video a framing it on my wall. Saved my score completely
I got my SAT in two days and I've been prepping forever for it, this video is amazing bruh, kept me entertained while also teaching me useful tuff 🙏
Okay but the vinyls in the back are SO INCREDIBLY BASED
Thank you so much man, I've tried to practice to get my score higher than a 710 (part of that is bc I use desmos), but I always run out of time on the second module. This video kept me entertained and made my brain willing to listen to what you say. I'll practice these extra techniques tonight to do last minute prep for tomorrow morning! Thanks a lot and wish me luck!
Your an awesome TH-camr! Your videos are super well made with just the right amount of comedy! Keep it up!
I’m watching this an hour before my SAT, thank you
watching this right before the test, good luck guys 👍👍
Literally found this video an hour before my sat today this now feels so much better, thank youuuuuuu and good luck to alllllll
How did you do?
NGL, this is sooo funny. I used this on my sol a month ago. ITS GODS GIFT
I cannot express my 💫gratitude 💫 about how much this helped me

6 hours before the august sat is a lifesaver, thanks bro
Panic watching before Saturday (also Iove the albums on your wall)
real!!
never genuinely laughed during an educational video before, my sat is in two days. thank you !
thanks to you ima have so much extra time on it and just solve differential equations waiting for the time to be up
calculus isnt even on the sat tho

Thank you so much! I watched this video twice, once like three days before my SAT and another time on the car ride to the testing center, and it helped so much! My math score went from 690 to 760 despite not studying 😅. Must admit I got super lucky with the problems though. I was able to plug a good 80% of them into Desmos!
I've made conway's game of life in desmos for fun, it's surprisingly powerful
This actually work I recommend 100% dominated desmos there are questions that took me less than 30 sec with desmos
Hell yeah man👍
I actually slightly disagree with this video, towards the end he says that you shouldn't use the calculator on certain questions, but you really should be using Desmos whenever you can to check your answers, because if you made a mistake when calculating the answer then Desmos would identify the mistake.
I've been reviewing since the beginning of thanks giving break and I'm hoping I can get above a 1400. I'll comment with my score. Its going to be weird looking back at this. me from the past has know Idea weather he will bomb it or not. Hopefully future me wont be sighing!!!
lmk i am also attempting the dec 7th sat today just in a few hours 🥲 with same situation as you
@@ahnet.69 Howd you do. I did well enough that both of the 2nd modules were a lot harder. I did really well with the first math module but not very well with the second one. Think I did pretty well with English overall but then again, so does everyone.
@@everythingballistic8812same story here, the first module was great for math, aced it, but the last few questions, like 6 of em absolutely KICKED my ass on the second module lol. Thinking on a 1300, not sure though😅
@@theamazintaco06 exact same with me. there were about 6 questions in the middle that I had no clue what the answer was. maybe I got lucky and got some of them, but some I just typed a random answer in
I didn’t realize my PSAT was tomorrow and I’m a junior, meaning I’ve had to.study all night, and I’ve done fine on all reading and writing practice tests, the only thing I’ve been struggling with is math. Who knew that something I never had an interest in was going to be my downfall in one of the most important tests of my life?
same here
Yes, desmos truly is the best! Especially since I only have to wait ONCE.
i’m taking the sat in like 30 mins i wish i saw this and practiced a little bit
Taking it tomorrow I'll let you know how I do! Praying for a 1500+, have not studied at all except for the August one! Lets goooooo time to lock in I'll lyk. Great vid btw bro

thanks bro, i was having a hard time with the SAT, I laughed and learned with this video
13:26 Was the answer to this b? Is there an easier way to do this other than by putting each number, one-by-one into desmos?
Did you find the right answer? I need helps?
Umm yeah I thought it was 0 because I just took the smallest two intervals 0-20 on A and 0-20 on B and averaged them to get 15-15=0 which is the difference I guess. . .
@@adambacon5314 yea b is the right answer
@@adambacon5314the intervals should be by 10 so you would look at the difference of 10-20 on the first graph and 10-20 on the second graph and see that they are only different by 1

This is my third time watching this. It's really good. Can't believe I forgot to subscribe.
Haha! The very first question you displayed was the very first math question I got on my PSAT! Good to know, this is gonna be very useful for me in the long run.

Hopefully this video helps! My last score was 990. 😢 I take my last retake test Dec 7 wish me luck!!
At 10:54 you can't actually plug in the possibly answers choices for x into the variable a.
The answer choices happens to include -8 but didn't have to. The final answer is x=6.
methods:
1.If you use trial and error in Desmos you might eventually get to a=-8.
Once you have a=-8 you can solve the system or just look at the point. (X,Y)
The x-coordinate of the point is 6.
x=6
2.or (without trial and error and, also, little use of Desmos)
since it is only a one point intersection we know b^2 -4ac = 0
That's part of the quadratic equation. The square root of 0 is 0.
now you have just x=-b/2a
x=6
(the rules for intersections btw linear and quadratic:
if it was a 2-point intersection then b^2-4ac>0
if one point then b^2-4ac=0
if no point intersect then b^2-4ac
How can I solve the equation on 1:27 since i get my zeros as decimals not radical expressions on desmos?
plug them into a calculator and press equal then press the convert button, this will give you its decimal form
Im going to use your voice to stop me from overthinking
That was insane!!! It was funny, engrossing and interesting! Thank you❤ I’ll subscribe ✨
Great job! It went fast, but your examples were perfect!
Got my sat tomorrow. I’ll tell y’all what I get if I remember

the only fun SAT channel I've find so far :)
this guy makes sat vidoes actually engaging to watch.... w mans
10:54 if you get into this situation and you don't wanna do trial and error, you can:
1. plot the quadratic as f(x)
2. type in f'(x) = m (m is the slope of the line, in this case 3), then record the intersection of the vertical line and the parabola
3. Type the line equation onto desmos, replacing y with the y coordinate of the intersection earlier, x with the x coordinate, and a with x so desmos solves the equation for you. The x that comes out of this is the answer (in this case, it's -8)
omg it worked, can you explain the math behind it please?

-8 is not the answer, -8 is the value of A, x=6 is the answer
@@aynakhankhojamuratova6266 He's using Calculus. Basically the slope of the tangent line at a point on a graph is equal to the value of the derivative at that point. So the derivative of f(x), which is f'(x), must be 3 (slope of the 2nd equation) at their point of intersection b/c when they intersect once, the line is a tangent line. Wouldn't recommend memorizing this unless you have learned Calculus.
