    A fuel pin and a 3200 rpm governor spring will wake your truck up significantly. They are a great "bang for the buck" combo! See my video here for more details on the governor spring: th-cam.com/video/8zejOa9lun8/w-d-xo.html

    I am assuming the fuel pin you installed is something equal to a 40 hp gain...if that's true do you have any concerns about stressing the trans? I have a stock 92 and a 40 hp fuel pin in the glove box waiting to be installed. I'm just looking for a little more hp to help with climbing hills pulling my 5th wheel...it could use just a little help pulling hills but my concern is burning up the automatic trans. From the background in your videos you have some really big big hills to get over...any issues with increase hp effecting your auto trans? Great videos BTW...very straight forward, great content and very well delivered...I watched several big youtube channels try to explain fusible link by pass...never once did they actually show the fusible link, or show the process for by passing, they just talked about it. Yours however, was detailed and comprehensive....keep up the good work.

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will be totally fine with the fuel pin. I would also recommend a governor spring. I lived in a Alaska for a few years with this truck and pulled a 5th wheel all over the state with my stock auto trans and didn't have any issues. Just don't pull hills in OD and monitor your trans temps and you'll be fine. I'd also recommend the basic band adjustments on the trans.

    Another thing to consider is changing out the spring riding the star-screw with a heavier one which slows boost influence on pin. Simply running the star-screw up, will also shorten the distance that the fuel pin will ride up the fuel pin. The heavier spring I run is a Bosch '1 464 618 705-001' Hopefully I got the correct number.

    Another great video. I got the THD fuel pin and 3200 governor spring as well and just installed them in my '93, which is otherwise completely stock. I did not turn the fuel screw in when installing these. The power improvement is really great - exactly what I was hoping for to get me up the hills a little faster when towing. The problem is at high rpms it now dumps quite a bit of black smoke. The rest of the rpm band is good - very little smoke if any. But when I get it revved up pretty high in 4th gear, which is the gear I'll be in on longer, steeper hills, that smoke is really billowing. Any ideas on how to cut down on that? My thoughts are, (1), increase preload on the starwheel spring or, (2), back out the max fuel screw a little. What do you think?

    • @decentgarage
      @decentgarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely adjust the starwheel first. Rotate it counter clockwise which raises it up and increases pressure on the diaphragm. My got to starting setting for the star wheel is to bottom it out and then back it out 2 full rotations.

      @@decentgarage Thanks Tim, I'll give that a try!

    • @garylewis327
      @garylewis327 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@decentgarage Ok, I turned the starwheel up one turn from stock (two turns up from being bottomed out), and the high-rpm smoke was gone. Trouble is, so was my low-end power. So I kept turning it back down toward the stock position a little at a time, and now I'm at 1/8th of a turn up from stock and it's pretty good. Not quite as much low-end power as I was getting with it in the stock position, but I'm not getting any of that high-rpm smoke either. I am getting a puff of black smoke in the mid-rpm range, but it's short-lived. And after watching a video from my rear-facing dashcam from a while ago, apparently it had been doing that before I ever messed with the pump anyway. I guess I just never noticed it before. Next, I'm going to turn the starwheel back to the stock setting and turn the max fuel screw back a little to see what that does. I'll come back to report results. Might be a few days - too much rain today.

    • @garylewis327
      @garylewis327 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I backed the fuel screw out about a quarter to half a turn and put the starwheel back to the stock position, and knew when it started up that that was never going to work. Completely gutless. So I turned the fuel screw in to just about 1/8th of a turn in from stock, put the starwheel to 1/8th of a turn counterclockwise from stock and turned the smoke screw in 1-1/2 turns from the point where it's flush with the cap and it's running great now. No smoke either. Also installed the manual shutoff cable and brass-tipped FSS plunger. Next projects - replace window scrapers, check backup light switch and troubleshoot lack of message center lights.

    • @decentgarage
