Looking forward to watching this - I've stayed there twice on holiday. 🏰 castle was open during tourist season... its a must to visit..pubs - amenities - a castle and the horses early morning.. thanks for taking me down memory lane..😊
You do pick some gems of places to visit, especially in beloved Yorkshire. I was once privileged enough to take a tour around some of the stables and gallops in Middleham. I remember going in a pub and have a 'Black Pudding Salad'. Sounds weird, but it was amazing
And hubbys tried most of those pubs 😂 - i wish at the cross in the main carpark area you had turned Left - thats where we stayed in a lovely little cottage - and down that road is 2 of the big racing stables....
As you said Middleham has many famous racing stables which the vet James Alfred Wight, aka James Herriot the author, used to visit, also it was his favourite historical village in the dales. The first castle, its site marked by hawthorns, was built in the early Norman period by Robert Fitzrandolph. Its successor of 1170 passed into the hands of the Nevilles of Raby a century later, but saw its great days during the Wars of the Roses. In 1461 the young Duke of Gloucester, later Richard III, joined the Middleham household for training and tutorage under the Earl of Warwick, subsequently courting and marrying his daughter Anne in 1472. They made their home at Middleham and their only son, Edward, was born here in 1473. They remained here until 1483; the year that Richard was crowned. He returned north only once more, on the death of his son in 1484. Anne died shortly afterwards, and Richard was slain at Bosworth in Leicestershire in 1485. The castle remained Crown property until 1625, and is now in the guardianship of the English Heritage. The Neville Family were the Lords of Middleham and Warwick the Kingmaker, was the last of the feudal barons. The Neville's lived in regal state in their great fortress, entertaining the greatest in the land. It is said that six oxen were eaten at breakfast and their feasts were sumptuous and lavish.
A very nice and quiet little spot - so I missed those snippets of passing conversations . Looks liked the gimbal was working overtime on those cobbled pavements .Many thanks for all your efforts.
Hi Neil, your walks are very interesting and the filming is so clear. I have one criticism - I really dont like the background music - I prefer to just hear the sounds of what’s going on in whatever town you are in, even if its really quiet. Cheers,
Looks a really nice place to visit. Have you heard of a place called reeth, it's in the yorkshire Dale's, you could do a video of that. It's a small place.
I and my husband visited this lovely village about 15 years ago, he was a racing fan we went to see Johnson’s stables and went for a tour of the black boy brewery.

Remember the Castle Walls at Night were filmed in at least one episode of All Creatures Great and Small the James Herriot series many moons ago

I would love a video walk of Huntingdon
Great idea / just added to my filming plans!
Very beautiful. Would love to take you on a tour of my town here in the US. Bend, Oregon. Look it up.
Would love that!
The lack of people is a bit scary.
Bit quiet isn't it!
