  • The Yorkshire Dales is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers. With deep valleys, limestone cliffs, dramatic waterfalls, picturesque villages, and lush greenery, you have so many incredible options for your trip to the countryside.
    In this video we will show you 12 examples of some of the amazing places you could go for a walk in the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the bordering area of Nidderdale. Our suggestions are based on walks we have enjoyed on our own trips to the Yorkshire Dales. We have tried to keep the selection varied in terms of sights and landmarks so hopefully you will find something that appeals to you.

      I concur, I live in Yorkshire and I don't think I've missed a single gem , including the Yorkshire Moors. I take my caravan down to the Cotswolds EVERY year ( otherwise I get withdrawal symptoms )

    Thankyou for a beautiful video of the Yorkshire Dales. I was born and grew up in Nelson, just over the border in Lancashire. I spent many days hiking, cycling and camping in the Dales. For the past 55 years I've lived in western Canada but the beauty of the Yorkshire Dales and, of course, the Lake District has always remained with me. I was last there in 2013 and I hope to return soon, but regrettably, my age may prevent it. But the memories will remain.

    Fantastic video guys. My mother was born in Castle Bolton and lived in Hawes as a child. Since being a young child myself, I have travelled to Wensleydale at least once a year. You've expertly captured the magic of the Yorkshire Dales!

      Thanks for your lovely comment! I bet that was a great part of the Dales to grow up in. We actually saw an exhibition on at the Dales museum in Hawes while we were there about schools in the upper dales from the 30s onwards and what it was like. There were some really interesting stories! Let us know if you have any favourite spots in Wensleydale that you would recommend visiting 🙂

    Wonderfull video! I notice you use both meters and feet measures (metric and imperial ) - is this common in UK?

    • @OurTravelPlace
      @OurTravelPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question! I don't remember the context in which I used both in this video but generally in the UK we do mix metric and imperial... I know I flip between the two! So yeah I suppose you could hear either.

      Filipe, we do mix them, we still use yards and miles on our roads. I understand metric and imperial measurements.

    Hi, can we cover all these places in a day or two?
    Do u recommend to follow the places geographically in a order u mentioned?

    • @OurTravelPlace
      @OurTravelPlace  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to do everything in a day or two...it's quite a large area. I think you could probably combine some of the locations in the same day, especially if you didn't do the full walking routes suggested (e.g you could stop off to see the ribblehead viaduct without doing a walk through the farmland or up whernside, or you could visit Hardraw Force without spending time in Hawes). I would pick whatever you like the look of most and then see if it's possible to combine with any of the other places. In the list I did work through them as though I was doing a loop around the dales, so that should help show which sights are closest to each other, if that makes sense! Most things I have included though are at least a half day activity. I hope you have a great trip to the dales, wherever you decide to go! 🙂

    hey, thanks for the video! I plan on studying abroad in Leeds but I don't know how I will be able to get to these spots without a vehicle. Are motorbike rentals a thing in the area, or are there any clubs available that travel to these locations?

    • @OurTravelPlace
      @OurTravelPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't know about motorbike rentals, but I wouldn't be surprised if your uni has a hiking society? If not then there are a lot of good walking spots that you can reach from Leeds using public transport, even if some of the ones on this list are tricky (you can reach some Dales spots though... take a look at the leeds - settle - carlisle train line 🙂 Check out other places close to Leeds for walks too like Ilkley and Otley)

    Valley of desolation. The name couldn’t be further from the truth, and it’s where my ashes will be poured out one day. Blessed to have been born and grown up in North Yorkshire.

      I know, I love how inappropriate the name is! I read it was named that after a big storm detroyed lots of trees and plants in the area, but now it seems like strange name for the place 😄 Thanks for watching

    • @OurTravelPlace
      @OurTravelPlace  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I suppose it depends on how mobile they are and what sort of activities you are all interested in. And what part of the dales you will be. Some of the things in this video could be suitable, e.g. take a closer look at bolton abbey/fountains abbey. You won't necessarily walk much of the grounds but seeing the actual abbey could be doable. Maybe a potter around one of the small towns or villages? Or if you are still looking for a walk then the Yorkshire Dales website also has suggested walks that are under 2 miles without stiles that you can take a look at and see if they would suit www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/plan-your-visit/essential-information/access-for-all/miles-without-stiles/
      Hope this helps 🤞🙂
