Tip for bump starting: 2nd gear, stand on the pegs when you start rolling, and slam yourself down on the seat as you let the clutch out to make the back wheel grip.
Absolutely correct. 2nd gear, drop your ass on the seat as you drop the clutch. How do I know? I’m almost seventy and back in the day we didn’t have starter motors we had kick start levers and most of the bikes, whether British or American, didn’t always cooperate, especially after sitting overnight.
Amazing videos man, I don’t know why or how I came across your videos as I’ve never had or looked at bikes before but watching you has literally made me get my first bike, CBT completed and my new 125 is being delivered next week… so thank you and Monica for making some truly entertaining content but not thank you for inspiring me to spend all my savings 😂

Chap, what a ride......for us that is; the camera absolutely loves you, friend. And who couldn't love Monica? Lucky man, you you have yourself a fine young lady there and my envy. How you have not ended up on mainstream TV is a complete mystery but social media's gain. Between you both, Noraly and The Missenden Flyer, I may as well throw out my TV sets! Thoroughly entertaining but real life events, I don't remember ever paying the slightest interest in how small anyones' front door is or,got excited about a motorbike ramp or watching someone eat ice cream and telling me about his boots. But I have now.....! And I'm sure I'm not alone is being excited to hear of your adventures and antics in the sun; for which I am again totally envious. Take good care of yourselves, Senior Dobbs, look after your beautiful lady and don't be a stranger, eh mate?. Keep smilin' bloke.....
There’s only one bike for you and that’s a Triumph!! I own a 2022 Bonnie here in the states. The older they get the better they are- as you know no better feeling than roll’n on a Triumph! Cheers mate USA
Your starting technique reminded me of many years ago, my ‘69 El Camino. I bought it off of a friend and the starter needed to be grounded out electrically to get it to engage. I kept a brass rod just for that purpose. A new starter eventually was the fix and I passed that car on to my brother.
Another great vlog from Freddie & Monica that bike shop has been in Crayford for every, looking forward to your vlogs from your travels down to Tenerife .
this cheered me up no end with the lengths that some 'tubers go to to make a comedy/positive vibe channel...run a drive chain sooo slack its hanging down, bump start in first gear, start bike with a screwdriver. You Sir are a star and have a great time abroad in the sun while we are in the cold and rain 👍...hopefully you spotted the chain "maybe" at the end of its life
@@FreddieDobbs I get customers saying the exact same thing when I fit new chain and sprockets but given what the chain does and the load it takes (and you carry a pillion) it pays to have quality kit here. Good luck with the move buddy
Nice tries on bump-start Freddie. Reminds me of a failed start on my Francis-Barnett 225 cc Cruiser (in 1968). Ran with it down the road (correct gear 2nd, clutch in) then jumped side-saddle on but forgot to get off when it wouldn't start - result broken foot pegs and riding home when it did start with feet in the air! Embarrassing or what. Good luck to you and Monika on your Tenerife switch. Look forward to the new vlogs.
Another lovely video Freddy. Have you taken a look inside your actual push start button? It might be as simple as a bit of curosion within the swith itself. Clean and pop back together. You new tool set will cover all your needs
Yeah Freddie it’s called a ‘bump’ start because you need to jump on the rear seat as you let the clutch out. Hence the ‘bump’. Practice makes perfect like the old endurance racers used to do. Well done for giving the service a go for yourself. Sooooo expensive when you go to a dealer.
Another great video Freddy, though l have to say £53 for 4lt of oil is a total rip off!!! Even if it was fully synthetic, l personably would of gone for iridium plugs you can fit and forget them. The company selling that bike stand should give you your money back for comprehensively demonstrating their product, which if you don’t have a centre stand would be a godsend, l have an Aprilia Mille you can only use paddock stands which are very precarious to use l have in fact dropped it once trying to use them. The starting problem on your Bonnie looks to be just the starter solenoid, an easy and cheap fix to replace it with a new one. Love your videos which are getting more and more professional, especially like that you keep the little mishaps in too, we’re all human Freddy.
Wonderful video🙂 If that white Moto Guzzi is for sale at the dealers I'd rush to buy before going to Tenerife😃 Get at the plugs without removing the tank, a centre stand, shaft drive no knicker elastic chain to mess with and starts on the button😂 That was the dearest oil I've ever seen so should get a good discount on the bike!😉
Thanks! I’ve heard a few people buying Guzzis purely because they’re shaft drive. Getting to the spark plugs without removing the tank is incredible! The V7 would absolutely be in my shortlist👌🏻👌🏻

Just a thought with your starting issue. My bike had a similar issue and after yonks of head scratching I finally worked out that if I press the starter button harder it solved it. Something to do with the connection in the button obviously.
Its good practice to blow air down and around the old plugs before removing them to try and blast away any grit that might go into your cylinder. I use my air dyer. Cheers!

I think you were mugged for the oil. Checkout car parts places. Hint from a plumber to a bonneville owner. Keep an old hand soap dispenser once you've used the soap (i mean those ones that you press down the top to dispense the soap). Give it a thorough clean and remove all the old soap. When you've got a small puddle in the plug recess and the engine is cold, remove the plunger part from the soap dispenser and stick the tube that normally draws up the soap into the water and plunge the top so it draws up the water and spray it away from the engine block. A water sprayer does the same and you can buy them all over the show. Nice stand. Looks like a more compact and much cheaper take on an Abba stand. What was that you did to start the bike when the switch didn't work? About time they put kick starts back on them.
This is a brilliant solution re the soap dispenser- so simple and smart! Thanks for sharing🙂 Re the starting technique; cross the starter solenoid with a screwdriver and it starts first time. A biker in Australia shared that little hack- I couldn’t believe how well it works!

Thanks very much Andy- really appreciate it! I actually changed the starter solenoid and after a lot of investigation, the mechanic diagnosed a faulty ignition barrel (I'd have never guessed!). I need to change it, but keep putting it off. And thank you- I'd never noticed this and will tighten Monika's helmet🙂
Another brilliant video Freddie 👍. Regarding the starting issue, I believe the bikes ECU monitors the battery voltage to prevent starting the bike with low volts (which can damage the sprag clutch and associated components). But it's a little bit too sensitive and will sometimes intervene when unnecessary. As the ECU connection goes via the ignition switch, your mechanic could be right if the contacts have gone a little resistive over time?

Freddie just replace the starter solenoid, once faulty no going back. You paid very high price for that oil. I pay £32 for the same oil and £25 for motul or similar. Makes me laugh seeing u struggle bump starting😂😂😂🤯🤯🤯🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. 45 yrs ago i had a Renault 4 car and i used to run along the road with it and jump in and bump start it. Bet the neighbours were well entertained. Seriously change that solenoid before Tenerife between £25-£50, common failure. Good luck with the move both, exciting for u
I hoped it was the solenoid, but it’s actually a faulty ignition barrel (i’d never have guessed!). I LOVE the Renault 4- I used to do the same with my Mk2 Golf. Like a bob sleigh racer!🤣🤣🤣
Tip for bump starting: 2nd gear, stand on the pegs when you start rolling, and slam yourself down on the seat as you let the clutch out to make the back wheel grip.

That's what I thought, so I changed it... but after a LOT of research, the mechanic diagnosed a temperamental ignition barrel! (I'd never have guessed that!)
At 19:30 I spit my bourbon all over the screen of my cell phone 😡🥃... I don't like wasting bourbon.... it's called a chain adjustment and chain lube get on it young man📢🛵☁️☁️☁️☁️.
Edit: okay as you can see I commented before the end of the video rookie mistake on my part my bad...BUT☝️ that chain looked way way too loose and extremely dry 😁🥃
Just buy a new starter solenoid Freddie ( the unit you cross with your screwdriver)
I’ve already replaced it- the issue is apparently a temperamental ignition switch (who’d have guessed?!)
@@FreddieDobbs oh ok i bet ignotion barrel, new key etc£££££.
motorcycle shop owners are usually sarcastic and arrogant. they know there's a 500 per cent mark up on motorbike accessories and so are con men too.
