The Powkiddy RGB30 is great! But not without it's problems. It takes some patience and its a good idea to flash a clean OS on a good SD card, but for Game Boy, GBC, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Pico 8, this screen is awesome!

Took a little longer than I wanted to get this out but hope y'all enjoy it. Have you decided to pick up the RGB30 or are you going with something else?
Any other handhelds you want me to review?
I would argue that this is one of the best devices for GBA emulation. The screen has perfect 3x integer scaling for the device. It totals at 3.4 inch compared to the 2.9 inch on the original GBA.
I've heard other people having bad experiences with N64 titles, like Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time having no slowdown but having things like flickering textures. Seeing how many games require the standalone Rice emulator and its lack of aspect ratio control is helpful. The glitchy textures is probably because they were using retroarch parallel with rice gfx. It has the best performance for retroarch cores but also usually has glitchy textures in many games. I just set my default to standalone rice for all N64 games as it performs the best overall and just changed the emulator when I ran into issues so I didn't have to do too much messing around.
My main use for the RGB 30 is for SNES games, it is awesome, you can use 8:7 screen ratio with int scaling and crop a couple pixels each side so you get almost full screen, it's outstanding. Russ from Retro Game Corps explains how to do it in his video.
Nice! After this video I switched to MinUI and mostly use it for GB, GBC, and SNES and I've been loving it
Did you keep the latest updated JelOS or did you roll-back to some previous version? Apparently its not supported anymore by its developers for RGB30 thus a lot of folks moved to ArkOS or the other branch of JelOS. If you stayed with the latest, does your bluetooth work? Apparently thats one of the issues
I ended up staying with the latest for this video but never tested the Bluetooth. However I switched to MinUI over the weekend since I plan to mainly use this for GB and SNES and wow it’s so much better for me.
@@Portly Nice, thanks for coming back to me! I am very fresh to this whole retro handheld gaming so quite exited - waiting for my device to arrive (I got the yellow one it just calls me!). From what I read, ArkOS and especially MinUI have more efficient battery management too!
So you recommend the RG35XX H over this one? I think that's the one I'm going for instead also.
I would say so. Even after this video I'm still using the RGB30 for Game Boy but some of the annoyances led to change the firmware and using the RG35XX H for other systems
Hey, I’m looking for some emulation consoles at the 100 dollar price range, do you think that this would be a good pick, and if not would you recommend something for me?
I do really like the RGB30 and I think it is a great option. Especially if you plan to play a lot of game boy, pico-8 etc to take advantage of the screen. Otherwise the Anbernic RG35XX H which I’ve also reviewed is my next choice
Thank you for the recommendations! I will Definetely look into them!
I don’t know if you have reviewed this before but, I’m looking into this handheld emulator called the Powkiddy X55, if you do know anything about it, please inform me
@@Frank-Horrigan-Fallout2 I haven’t reviewed it but I heard it’s pretty good!
Thanks!
nice vid mate
My fav.
does this come with dragon ball z gba games preloaded ?
It does!
Nice
Is has all those Pokémon games preloaded?
If so I’m def buying this thing if it’s got all of them up to before the 3ds
All games shown in the video were what it had out of the box. I haven't added any of my own ROMs other than my paid files for Pico 8
@@Portly oh wow thank you I’ll definitely look into getting it
Let me know how you like it I'm strictly looking for one for Pokemon as well, if you get it
If only the screen splits in 2 when playing 3ds games 😢
You can toggle between showing both screens or one screen at a time. It works pretty good for games that don't need the touch screen that much
I absolutely love the RGB30 - I've played the heck out of it and haven't had really any issues with it. My husband had a couple issues with his but I have not. Right now I'm playing more on my modded 3ds and modded Vita than anything else for now.
