  • Deirdre Kelly, who runs a community hub in a poverty-stricken area of Birmingham, expresses concern over the increasing number of vulnerable people seeking help. She criticizes Keir Starmer for failing to deliver on promises to protect the elderly and reduce crime, and highlights the struggle of working families who rely on Universal Credit. Kelly argues that the system fails to provide jobs with living wages, exacerbating the cost of living crisis.

They seem to crack down on the wrong people, this country has been slowly falling apart for years, especially inner cities

We vote and all we get is self serving pomp. I’m sick of the takers in parliament.

As somebody who never gets any help, not allowed a council home as I am at the bottom of the list (single British male), cannot afford my own home, I am tired of having to pay for all of those who have so much more in life than I ever do and I am somebody who works.
Blairs Labour made living off the state a lifestyle, I cut down on what I can have because I cannot afford it as I work.
Cut all the benefits and spend what you earn like the rest of us who get no help, but that would mean you getting off your arses.

Yes there are. That's an incredibly entitled view to take. England only seems bad because it's worse than it was. We still have a much better standard of living than most of the world

Agree. I heard a story from a construction man at the job centre looking for work as his contract was ending. What he heard was not surprising. A young man in his late teens and early twenties demanding his wages. The construction man knew the young man. Never worked since leaving school. The benefits system is out of control. The main people who should receive benefits are struggling.

I’m worried for my 20 year old son who has an educational plan he is on the autistic spectrum and has mental health
And i am to sick to be fighting as they have cut his help twice before and i had cancer removed 4 weeks ago and im waiting for chemotherapy I’ve had cancer twice in 10 years im 46 in November
And I don’t need the stress as I know this will effect him especially since he is still studying for his qualification
And I can’t get any help as I can’t work because I’m waiting for chemotherapy we are down to one wage as my husband works rather then two and it’s gong to hit us
I worked for 33 years before this happened to me

      I’m on the spectrum, work & study… it’s upto the individual…
Most people are on the spectrum..
I tell you now.. you will not get any mental health help for at least 5 years & that’s upto how much you are willing to help yourself like anything in life.. I hope you r chemo goes well 🙏🏼

There is no such thing as a free lunch. Anyone on benefits other than severely disabled should be made to work. It’s that simple, take the total benefits that they receive, divide by the Minuit wage, that provides you the number of hours that must be worked.
Just think, of the reduction in the Social Security Cost, followed by reduction in mental health issues and providing a sense of community.
The entire social security and public sector pensions are out of control.

Taking a low paid job is a character building exercise and a chance to get up the ladder incrementally. The long-term reward far outweighs the dependency on state benefits.
