- It's honestly insane how well this game holds up after 8 years..
Had an absolute blast making this video on one of my favourite games of all time. Feel free to let me know if you'd like to see more videos from OG DiRT Rally, I'd be happy to make more :)
Let's hope EA/Codemasters WRC 23 can recapture some of the magic of this game!

@@bociannielot I dont really agree with that, compared to DR2.0, the cars are way more responsive in handling. I have never driven a rally car irl but I dont think it should be that responsive, besides that, the other things like the color pallete, specific graphical things, hillclimb, they nailed it
I always think how immersive the co driver sounds! Modern rally games the co driver almost sounds too clear, but this seems life like
Totally agree mate! Weird how some games seem to evolve backwards in some places
They actually recorded every stage separately, not like in most other games (including the EA WRC) where it's done through template triggers

good skills, really overall, you will need to upload some reshade to the new ea WRC because dirt rally looks beautiful because it is so little colorful, I really like it because it adds a really good atmosphere, I was very excited about this game even though it was really demanding. I hope Codemasters keeps the spirit of the series

this saga is simply perfect!
Dirt 2007 was a great start, Dirt 2 probably the best rally/offroad game ever, Dirt 3 was a direct evolution of the first one, Dirt Showdown a great spin-off to get some arcade in the series, Dirt Rally And Rally 2.0 two of the best rally sims ever and Dirt 5, yeah maybe Dirt 5 was not that great but still fun Online.
i agree with all of that. except you didnt mention dirt 4 being a bit problematic but with some good ideas that didnt really work. nor did you mention the new wrc game, which while not having the dirt name is still technically part of the franchise depending on how you judge it. plus, dirt 5 is hot garbage that was not targeted at the same audience as the rest of the lineup. more for young fortnite players or something.

Yeah it’s still heaps of fun man, only thing to note is that it isn’t available to buy on Steam anymore which is weird. But should be able to grab it somewhere else online or could even buy the disc version 👍

The only thing about DR 1&2 that I’m glad is fixed in EAWRC is the extreme corner cutting/shortcut cheats people figured out, I could get close to top times but some tracks always had such a gap between the record times and anyone below it who hadn’t figured out which corner to launch over to avoid four S bends and cut off 10-20 seconds.
Totally agree man, corner cutting in those games was really bad and pretty much every WR was achieved by doing them, so it made trying to climb the leaderboards feel a bit pointless!
Controller users, change your settings to 90 sensitivity and 10 linearity.
OG Dirt Rally is superior to Dirt Rally 2.0 in every way possible imo :) more please

is it really a sim? i have it on steam and when i first try it with keyboard and i was flipping cars left and right, is there any way to make it a little bit of arcade? other than that, really good driving
Yeah it’s a sim I’d say, definitely a tough game just takes a lot of practice! 🙂

Look at the visuals and how the car moves. It literally shits all over EA WRC. It's not even funny. And I can run this at like 200fps. It's CRAZY how good this game is.

Those graphics look good for a 2015 game. Although I prefer 2.0 over this one.
Yeah as you say it looks decent considering it’s age, but DR 2.0 was definitely a nice step up 🙂
@@Storm_RX Yup. Especially when it comes to the amount of locations. I heard Dirt 1 only had 6 rally locations, whereas Dirt 2 has 13 locations.
@@wolterzz3267Correct! Had i'd never had Rallycross content. The location might have been doubled either. But still can't wait for the new WRC game this November.

Barely any difference graphically between this and playing DR2.0 in 2023. That's in 8 years. I remember Colin McRae Rally 1 coming out in 1998, then 2.0 in 2000 and 3 in 2002, and both those sequels brought MASSIVE graphics upgrades in a short 5-year timespan. WRC 2023 had better improve at least a little bit, but I'm not hopeful after seeing the screenshots.
Yeah, I was surprised going back to this game how good it still looks. Not that DR 2.0 looks bad by any means but as you say would be great to see a big step forward now since they are using the unreal engine and the new game will only be on next-gen consoles or PC 👍
I think that what is more important than graphics in rallies is the good use of physics and steering wheel. Force fedback performed average in dirt compared to other games. As for the graphics, the new version may be nothing special, they are still learning. who knows, the next WRC will probably be at EU 5, but it will probably appear in a few years. then it could be a breakthrough because well used UE5 can do a lot in terms of physics.
Devs need to figure out how to "ground" the vehicle. Beautiful environment, but the car looks like it's on rails, and you're just rotating it left or right.
It might look a bit like it but these games are definitely not on rails, it’s really tough to keep the car on the track honestly 😅
And it looks much worse than the 2004 RBR
