Switching from your normal shot to this finesse shot is what the most difficult part is. Actually all kinds of "shot switching", i.e. backhand to forhand, top spin to slice etc, is what we all need to work on. It gets very easy when you are in the comfort zone and just keep hitting the ball with the same power, body involvement, etc. Well said Nick! Love this video very much😉
This is so so important. I always work angle deep and short even if i got to drop the balls myself. Also that forecourt put away running around BH to option FH going in respective corners. Then dropping ball close to BH sidelines and slicing approach deep in opponent FH corner and following to volley position. You can do all this alone though getting fed is better for obvious reasons.
It’s interesting you say it’s easier for one handed backhands. I have trouble hitting it and I have a one hander. When I was younger and had a two hander, I could easily hit it. It might be because of my lack of confidence on my one hander though because I do agree with the things you’re saying in this video. I’m a 5.0 player in Orlando btw. 😊
have to love Sara's focus. Great lesson Nik. Been doing angle BH slices since the 70s and love it till today. Really works well. Keep up the great work. Cheers! M
Roger is probably the best doing that short slice BH angel close to net. It's hella way to bring somebody in and is a great reply when your opponent pushes you in BH corner and wanna put him in a defensive scenario.
Just to make it more clear, we *should* take pace out of this angle shot, correct? It's a finesse shot. We want the ball to drop short. I believe you highlighted it in the video..just wanted to confirm. Thank you. Great lesson
Loved this one, somehow a shot that has not really been covered within the 1000s of tennis video's on TH-cam and where I realized my mistakes. But a different question: I, and a lot of people, would LOVE to a match between you and Karue of MyTennisHQ
As good as Nick is and a great teacher, Karue would destroy him. I don't have a bias. It's just obvious to me. Karue is younger, hits harder and most importantly is much faster moving around. It would be 6-2, 6-1, depending on how Nick was serving, which would be his best chance of winning points.
That's very well possible, Nick is not 25 anymore either. But since he still seems to be winning easily against former D1 and D2 players I would like to see him play against a player that is actually of a higher level for once. Just like the Winston matchups between different levels are interesting I would like to see this one :D
until now nobody knows what racket he is using..a lot predict solinco whiteout but i dont think that's the right one..i have a feeling thats the current wilson shift racket..
@@Ximena-b2none more discussion is he might also spray painted one of his pure drive white..because it does have the black babolat butt cap..i dont know..no one really knows..and until now nick still silent when someone commenting bout this white racket..
I remember Lendl after finał with Mečíř he apologized to audience for his stereotype shots to middle of baseline. He did it because of Mečíř wasn't able to create bigger angles. So Lendl eliminated his biggest weapon
That's one way to prevent acute angle shot another way is quick recognition and slapping or slicing an approach and pouncing the net like Jimmy Conners or McEnroe then Pete. I just remember Jimmy when I was a kid always looking for the short ball of the ground and rushing the net.
Who wants to practice sharp angles with you? It’s not time efficient and will fire balls into adjacent courts. Need a ball machine or a kind soul to feed for you and help pick up.

To hit these sharp angles on the forehand I just take my finger of the grip.
The voiceover over the drills really makes the video more informative and better!
💯
I feel like Andy Murray is the king of angle shots and he hits it out of the blue after a hard shot just like the drill. Great lesson!
two words - David Nalbandian!!

Great video my friend. I love hitting the angle shots, it helps me shorten the points, I am to old to be running around. Hahe
Freudian slip or just a sly pun? As in a Angel hitting an angle.😂🎉

What racquet is he using? Is it a custom paint job?
In a match are you going to try to hit deep and heavy or go for angles?
Depends on the opponent and doesn’t have to be either or, can be both
Sara is beatiful and a very good tennis player.
I trained almost the exact same thing weeks ago…
But my trainer used to teach me that I should vertically accelerate more… giving the ball max. Spin.
The only thing I would add coach, Sara’s footwork is just a little off, on her angle shots. You did a great job helping her to improve her shots.
Good video, I learned a lot. Sarah is fine
Like to see more shot demonstrations with Sarah. She's got a pretty hot 🔥 FH shot. 🔥
Do you teach new students eastern forward grip or semi-western?

I always thought it was way easier with a double handed backhand to hit short angles. Maybe it was just be being really good at it 😉
Who is the student?
Sara... good choice Nic.. great for the camera..
Ur whole comment history on this channel is bordering inappropriate. Reevaluate urself u creep.
