Great potential for a sensational slice, once that strength builds up it’ll become second nature for her…exactly what you said, slice on a wall is brilliant for it, that was a part of every training session as a kid in the 90s…as a one handed player I was saying at the start ‘Get her to rest the racquet on her shoulder’ as that’ll bend the arm to, and then you got her doing just that👌👌
Wow her slice got so much better Interesting that she thought she was starting high when she wasn’t. Maybe you should have another camera where you can show students what you’re telling them. Because it’s almost like she didn’t believe you, because she “felt” she was doing it correctly.
Coming from Squash to Tennis, this was awesome. This is such a squash shot haha! Im squash -> face 45 degrees diagnal backwards to the ball youre hitting. So similar to the slice shot in tennis.
Her left arm moves back After the shot. She starts the swing with both hand rather than taking the racket back farther then separating arms from there. Has to get rid of the two hander influence. Didn't see her BH volley but bet that she hits it with both hands.
I wonder what arm/waist moment affect the spin after the slice land. Sometimes it gives me some unexpected side spin while sometimes it slides directly to me.
you are a fantastic coach and she is a talented (and pretty) player . It is funny when i teach some players the slice they almost always want to learn the one handed back hand. i think secretly they are all jellous of one handed back handers lol . but i always send them back to a two handed they already know.every time we have tried to switch to 1 handed it results in 3 or 4 lessons of wasted time where they decided they like their one handed better.
It’s a Gamma RZR 117 big bubba. Good luck finding one. I think they’re going to stop selling them, but it has been a staple of the “old man tennis” for decades.
You said " It's supposed to be a High to Low swing" . If the swing is more vertical ( High to Low ) than 45 degrees , that's a CHOP. The SLICE swing is more parallel to the court surface. This student did make excellent improvement in a short time.
High to low with an only slightly opened racquet (say 70-90 degrees) creates the most backspin whilst keeping the ball low. If you have a racquet face more parallel to the court it is harder to get it [right and it balloons, losing any energy and effectiveness - it doesn't stay low after the bounce. You may call that a chop but what it is, is a slice shot. Try it in practice or watch some videos showing pros warming up.
My coach sometimes says, “Dave you’re doing this…” and I get so confused. But then I’ll watch a video of myself doing it and I realize, “Oh! That’s what you mean.” Sometimes it’s hard to change your motion without seeing it.
Hey I know this may be unrelated but I’m curious if you have the wisdom to know what’s going on here, I warmed up a 16 year old 7+ utr girl for a woman’s tournament yesterday, and on my forehand I can keep up the pace and spin and everything for 8+ rally balls and miss by only very small margin long. But then out of no where I can fly one all the way to the fence, my technique is good and I can keep up but sometimes out of Rhythm I can have this type of miss, any idea as to why?
Hi Nick, thank you for your lessons. I appreciate what you do! I will try to help you :) I think, all tennis coaches have just one problem. They get a lot of students, who can't feel the ball. Everyone wants to play tennis. Everyone thinks to be able play tennis. So a lot of people take the lessons without being able to practice on court. Or having time to do this. And no one tell them about the truth (Sorry , the coaches do that sometimes because of money or many other things) I am so sorry dear students. There is no way to teach someone how to feel the ball. You feel it or nor. it. There is no third option. That is the reason why it looks in that case so artificial. Sorry again ! So, the way how produce train/slice IMO (If you feel the ball of course:) is to practice with fast balls. Not with the balls from basket (A' la Hopman) So, as a next when you don't have enough time to reach the ball you begin to block them. After that you need someone, who can explain the difference between slice and drop shot. Which grip to use and etc. How to produce short balls and how to get them to opponents base line . The reason why older people produce only slice in their game. They can't run anymore .
It's was hard for her to break the two-handed habit for the one-handed slice. It got better at the end and It will get even better once she lets go of the two-handed mechanics. It's weird because the one-handed slice is the easiest backhand to learn and is usually picked up first.
I think the best thing anyone can do to fix someone like this is to see a video of themselves then they can see exactly what they are doing wrong. It is hard to realize for some people without seeing it. That is why ballet studios are lined with mirrors.
Well not all pros' habits are suitable to recreational players. Such as changing Balls and racquets every 9 games. THB is not mandatory. And of course switching makes you suffer at first. But at old age the mobility decreases up to a point where THB is quite a challenge. I switched at the age of 13. For a very long time my backhand sucked. But after 10 years it became a weapon.
It's a dying art that had a resurgence due to Federer and Stan. Don't really see kids today using today. Is tsisitpas the only high level pro using it now?

Good vid Nick.❤
Good deep penetrating backhand slices are so much rewarding. Definitely need to incorporate more of them in my game😊
💯

yeah she didn’t realize that as she was reading the ball bounce she would drop her hand. a camera is a great idea
The warming guy on the background is some funny!

I don’t watch a lot of tennis apart from this channel, but do Ema and Sara have really elegant strokes? Different but both nice styles
They are far apart in level, but strokes can be fundamentally sound wo looking elegant.
Great stuff as always!
🙏
How can you be a D1 college tennis player and you can't hit a backhand slice
I have the exact same question. Not criticizing her skills, just curious if this is common.
same question from me - I'm so confused. Would like to see the rest of her game, though
Steve Johnson made it to top 50 atp without a topspin backhand, so yeah you can go pretty far missing an entire shot.
I was surprised she had so much problem picking it up, as well.
Parents may be big donors to the school she attends ;)
Super lesson
Thank u
Love the slice. RF made it into a weapon. Barty's was deadly
More of Sara 👍
love it!
🙌
nice video

Sara rbe trick is to keep the racket vertical and have a letter L at your wrist Joint and go for it

If she's a former D1 player I'm a former ATP player
A lot of progress for one lesson.
Really hard to break bad habits
Back hand slice is extremely hard, skilled tennis level
@11:00 Sara asked us, "Does it look pretty?" What is your answer?
were do you get your racket cause I wanna it

new racket, what's up with the white one? did we ever lift the secret?

Wta Elise Mertens, Agnieszka Radwanska also another backhand master

Let's just use Sara from now on... she is adorable.
I believe it's important to start slice with Sharp angle between the racket and forearm, of course evrything else agree

Wawrinka and Roger Federer
Is master of backhand slice
It’s amazing how you think you’re doing something properly and then see how you’re actually doing it on video
250?! that’s not tennis! lol that was low key hilarious.

Is that why you wanted to learn OHB on your own? So you wouldn't have to say "No" to Sara?

How was she a D1 player and can’t slice?????
D1 in which college. I am in distress
Radford
Rome wasnt built in a day, but she made some progress. Amazing that girls go to play D1 and have zero slice.
to me it doesn't look fixed, more like a bandaid
Nothing is fixed after one lesson. It’s just the beginning, takes time…
Racquet awareness...she doesn't realize where her racquet is.
🍀 Promo`SM
She worries if it looks pretty 😂
easiest shot in tennis, one handed slice backhand
That's former D1? Lol
Be nice.
She doesn’t like your Bubba racket lol
She’s not alone 😂
@@IntuitiveTennis you use it just for coaching?
Damn, I could play in female D1 on the basis of that lesson!
never go one handed backhand, there’s a reason no wta player among top 10 are using one handed also in atp there’s only one player in the top 10

What???!!!! The Top 10 WTA players all have a good slice BH. Unbelievable that you don't know that.
