Over the last few days I have grown to love these houses more and more and how my daughter Roxanne would have loved them. After almost 30 years of spending almost half of my daughter’s life in hospitals. I truly couldn’t even dream of a better place, or a more fitting, to make into a place where I, her mother and the rest of her family, could come to remember her. Where we could all still come to visit Roxanne. To sit and read her favorite books, her poems or just to talk to her, because she’d be right there for us too. It would be like walking into her room and having a sit down with her. Discussing how she was doing and all the family news. If you wanted to talk, she’d love to hear it. My Roxanne was an incredible woman, filled with wonder and grace. She cared deeply for everyone and every living thing and the love she had for her family was immeasurable. Her death was a shock to us all. Leaving all of us with so much left unsaid. So I think a place for Roxy family. A Bunkie. Would be a perfect place where we could all continue to talk with her. I can’t help but think how lovely it would be to make a Bunkie into a place where we could all come to visit her. Or to even spend the night with her, or maybe just sit and talk with to her, just as we did before. This little house would have been the perfect “safe haven” for my daughter when she was sick, just so she could reconnect with all the birds and critters she had always adored. I put my name in for the drawing of a free Bunkie. But it wouldn’t be just for me, it would be for all of us, who miss Roxanne and who loved her so very much. That sometimes we find it difficult to even breathe. I’ve never put in for a drawing like this before and I actually don’t think I could ever be this lucky. But this contest at least gave me something else to focus on that was So I have given it my best shot, just incase. Because someone has to win I guess. But having just the idea of the possibly of making a Bunkie to represent my daughter Roxanne life, was the nicest little dream that I’ve had in a long time. An imaginary visions of her memories and how we could preserve them with our own stories of her in her own little cabin we could all be a part of. P.S. I couldn’t help but notice the amount of pure love and respect this father has for his daughter, it’s so incredibly heartwarming. How he aways allows her to speak freely whenever she chooses to add to their descriptions of their cute little Bunkie house. God bless you all. 💙😊
I love your daughter's enthusiasm and sweet nature! I really enjoy your bunkies! I think it's a fantastic idea for extra room and can be done so stylishly.
You guys should really offer an off grid package or accessories. Partner with some of these companies, I know here in eastern Canada anyone buying one would want a woodstove. But also you can get fairly cheap solar panels from Canada solar that would be a nice addition to any bunkie. Just a thought!
These are awesome! Someday I want a bunkie. Perfect addition to our family property in northern Michigan. Even talked about them with our Canadian cousins. They knew about the bunkies!
This is so cute! I really need one! 💜 Love seeing all the additions to the basics bunkie he added. Some of the things I would want to do. Very informative. Thank you.
this is so awesome, im an amputee myself, and to have a wheel chair assessible little cabin would be great for when i visit my sons, his cottage is not Wheelchair friendly
What a great idea with the stove! Will tell my sister about this! She owns a lodge and has thought about adding more cabins with stove included! #bunkielife
Question - loft view from 9:04 ... am I seeing gaps of daylight coming through where walls meet roof, around the window frame, and at the top of peak/beam end?
What a sweet off grid cabin start up. The Cubic Grizzley Mini is practical and perfect for these smaller bunkies. Good to hear Bunkies Life is going to carry these Quebec items. Check out Bob Wells RV Living. His videos try out many top items off grid rv's, vans, trailers and bunkies might need. Tried and true testing of useful items like ie: the Berkey water filter stainless steel system allowing a counter top industrial but attractive looking water drinking dispener. Medium would suit you Dan and they cost approximately $450.They attain 99.% filered of excellent drinking water. This is just one of the 100's of great items. Love the set up so far. Good job Dan. Evē you asked very interesting and positive questions, especially about the wine on a cows kind rug...it certainly cleaned up nicely. I have my fingers crossed for one of the 2022 Bunkies Life Grand Draw model. That would be awesome.🏠 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✔
At this video's minute 9:15 you can see daylight coming in from the end of the roof at the top of the wall and also the end of the center roof beam. Earlier videos stated that your beam joints were designed to ensure there were no gaps to allow light or weather into the struture through the beam joints. This video shows the contrary. Can you explain this? Thanks.
This particular model was a 2018 bunkie prior to us getting the Bunkie Life Factory. Dan told us he sealed up his bunkie with some PermaChink Energy seal and no longer has those little gaps. It is still recommended to use sealant if you're trying to get closer to "air-tight"
@@torontopuppies7873 It really depends on how careful people are with the roofboard instulation. We usually use permachink energy seal if we want it AIRtight in those seams as it's tricky to get it perfectly.
I went nuts trying to watch this - cuz you just wouldn't pan around and SHOW US the Bunkie!! Kinda almost did finally at 17:28 but not really 🤨😕And the little girl was giving me so much anxiety bouncing around
I'm interested to know more details as to how Dan built the foundation (platform above the ground, with insulation) and also, why does Dan recommend using slats under the loft mattress?
I believe the roof insulation is deckboards>syrofoam+strapping then metal roofing. See this: th-cam.com/video/V-NO7uA05sY/w-d-xo.html Dan used sprayfoam underneath the loft overhang only.
@@BunkieLife Um, Dan said he'd supported the kitchen units on PT 4x4.. Wouldn't it be possible to make that ridge/wall junction housed, or supply a gasket at least? EDIT: 16:00 in Part 2 - can still see light..
You could join 2 bunkies together and have the other one kitchen /bathroom ..the first one all living room..with pull out sectional and have a 2 bedrooms.. 😉 and build on a cool deck for outdoor living room.💞
Hi, all! Just two cents worth of comment: I think the operative word in the title of this page is "You". I'm sure ONE person could live in a closet (as proven by those who have fallen down a well, or been incarcerated by any "notorious" prison or detention center, LOL). My point being, if "you" are actually "two"...or a family of FOUR who I've seen chat online about living in a bunkie, do your "feelings a favour" and go through the exercise of reviewing measurements, perhaps using string to see how big 10ft X 10ft actually IS...and then also imagine where the "stove", the "bathroom" and your galoshes are all going to fit into the grand scheme of things if planning a 4-season "abode". A wonderful private weekend getaway/hideaway for a couple is one thing; a postal address for a family of four is a whole 'nother smoke from spatial, financial, sanitorial and many other viewpoints! BTW, DON'T GET ME WRONG....... I LOVE BUNKIE LIFE!
You bring up some excellent points. Living in a bunkie is NOT for the faint of heart. And probably best for a single person or a couple that REALLLLLY likes each other's company.
@@BunkieLife Thanks, David. It's fascinating to see how the visual appeal (i.e. SHEER BEAUTY) of Bunkie Life's product line can conjure up visions of an idyllic existence. Far from pooh-poohing the "realm of possibilities" a bunkie conjures up (even at age 75, I have dreams of moving off-grid to a cottage on the edge of 2 acres of mixed bush) we, somewhat unfortunately, have to manage expectations. I hope the Winter Sale is going GREAT!
@@michaelscott356 I agree! About 85% of the time when approached by a "Tiny House" person, I'm trying to delicately talk them OUT of buying a bunkie. For the right person though (Dan and a few dozen others) it's a perfect solution.

So you touched on insulating the floor and ceiling - what about the walls? How was that done, and how does that work with the windows/sills/door/etc?

This is what I want to integrate into with one of these bunkies. Definitely informative 100%
Great to know the Grizzly mini wood stove is keeping you warm.
This video is beneficial for anyone wanting a Bunkielife. It gave me good ideas such as solar panelling.

This would be absolutely perfect for my three boys to have!!

Awesome bunkie. Maybe a battery CO2 detector would be a good addition.
And she loves the Bunkies. Great to see
This video absolutely made me want one more than I already did. Thank you for sharing
That stove is so neat!
For sure, it's the Cubic Mini Grizzly, made in Canada :)
great overview - thanks - good to see it in "live in" context. The winterization info is valuable. Love that little stove!
That was a great presentation. Very informative.
I believe in you all the best today tonight and tomorrow your product is the right thing
Great info!
How often are you filling the stove? Did you insulate between the joints of the walls?
Tell her Lincoln says hi. We are watching 😊
Cool stove and Bunkie
would love one in my backyard!
How absolutely perfect.

what about bathroom facilities (Waste)?

How would the bunkie be in -35c? How would you insulated the walls?

Very good information. 😊
Here in tofino I’d need a bit of water barrier. So inspiring. Thank you for sharing. ☯️
Why do you have to have slats if you're just using a mattress? Is that for ventilation or to protect from mold?
YEs, ventilation is a good idea for mattresses in a bunkie (and good ventilation means no mould)
I went nuts trying to watch this - cuz you just wouldn't pan around and SHOW US the Bunkie!! Kinda almost did finally at 17:28 but not really 🤨😕And the little girl was giving me so much anxiety bouncing around
9:05 is that daylight?!?
I'm interested to know more details as to how Dan built the foundation (platform above the ground, with insulation) and also, why does Dan recommend using slats under the loft mattress?
I think it's just on deck blocks raised up a bit, I think the slats help get the matress up off of the floor, but without losing too much headspace.
love it!!!...great info :)
How much of the 3" and 5 " piping did you get for your stove? Trying to figure out how much I need
Hey Emily! E-mail karrie@bunkielife.com I believe we have the math already done for you :)
I'd use my ceramic as I use now for living room
need to put this on my wish list !!
Insulation in the walls????
Love it💜
The wine 🍷 thing...oh my. Lol
I notice that it looks like he has another type of heater up in there.
so, the roof insulation is spray foam on the outside. wood, strapping outside, spray foam, metal roofing?
I believe the roof insulation is deckboards>syrofoam+strapping then metal roofing. See this: th-cam.com/video/V-NO7uA05sY/w-d-xo.html
Dan used sprayfoam underneath the loft overhang only.
Omg its perfect 🤩 I love ❤️ this 🥂☮️❤️
Um, PT lumber shouldn't be used inside a living space!.. and what's with the light visible in the loft?! Why are those joints not sealed?..
We agree, none of the wood is pressure treated. Dan sealed the joints later that year (see the second video)

WC/toilet?
Nice!
Nice
Why is there daylight showing up in the loft at the top left?
I think maybe Dan is still caulking his seams?
Is the stove a cub or a grizzly?
Grizzly!
That book titled "Cabin Porn" cracked me up
what about the Washroom?
That’s what I was thinking too! This is all nice but can’t forget we need a bathroom, can’t imagine going to an outhouse in freezing weather.

So great 👍 your daughters my son's age
I could have used a Bunky in 1979 when I wanted to live off grid.
I'm a cartoonist designer. I'd make mine..a art deco cool comfy
Very cool...minus the cow hide.
So cool 😎. He loves his..Home. I want for my autistic boy
