I got lucky. I got full custody of the kids, no child support, no alimony, and the house. My father worked as a roofer for decades. In the winter he did insulation and upholstery. My mother slept until 3pm smoked like a chimney and never left the chair in front of TV. When she divorced him, she got the house, money, property set for life. My father got nothing for the back breaking work he did. It is a trap, never get married.

That's rough. I feel like there needs to be a marriage contract to make equal/similar effort. So, the guy is at work all day, the woman takes care of everything else. Woman is at work all day, guy takes care of everything else. Both work? Split the chores, bills etc. I think younger women are finally shaking the 50's era expectations of being "taken care of". My attitude: Its a fucking team: you take care of each other, you serve each other. As far as I'm concerned, you buy in or believe that or bye bye, baby.

The funniest ones are the ones where the narrative is she tried to make it work, when the reality is she's the one who destroyed it! And that's not even the true irony! No, the true irony is she destroyed it and you have to give up half your assets before starting over! Some of those assets go to her and some to the blood-sucking lawyers! When it's all said and done, you are left with little money (less still after child support and/or alimony), and no dignity! The narrative then becomes about what you didn't do and how she doesn't know what happened! You have to find new social circles, and you will get a quick lesson in hypocrisy the next time you attend your church! But that's okay because you won't feel like socializing much anyway. God forbid you actually meet someone who gets you to thinking perhaps you should try again, only to have her politely decline by telling you she "isn't looking for anything serious," but the reality is you are damaged goods and you have nothing to offer her (Damn!) But you will have plenty of time to figure out how the hell did you ever allow yourself to play a game where you could have your soul ripped out simply because one day the woman you love decides she doesn't love you anymore! You didn't mistreat her; no cheating, lying, or degrading her! No, you did nothing but love her! And who knows, maybe you'll have enough time to regroup on your retirement before you are too damn old to work any longer! But... this too shall pass. For all who want to get married, I sincerely wish you the best! But I will never trust that "institution" again! Thanks for the free therapy!

You gotta respect his maturity as a man, as unlike so many that blame the woman who fleeced them in the divorce settlement stage, he 'fesses up, takes full responsibility without blaming someone else (a woman/women), and doesn't tar all with the same brush. I will say this as a Man that we are willing to hold ourselves Accountable and we have the Courage to own that Accountability in front of the whole world. My Father blamed my mother for a lot of things, but eventually he did admit to his actions, but my Mother NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER admitted that she did one thing wrong in their brief 4yr marriage and she spent the next 30yrs reminding him over and over blaming him for what he did!
She never remarried, while he went on get married 3 times.
13yrs after he died, she visited his gravesite and spent 30 whole minutes in our store talking to the customers of the family business that he built and blaming him for getting remarried twice; when she was the one that filed for the divorce. I know for a fact today that I couldn't marry a woman like my mother, because she doesn't know how to let go of a grudge or take any accountability for her demanding, blame-drunk, disagreeable nature. While I pray for her to heal those deep wounds that she refuses to forgive all these years later.

Understand that whole story. Im nearly 31, my parents got divorced to and i lived with my mother since im 17.
I came to the conclusion that the whole problem was that view that man and woman are equal. Its just false. Man are 10x more capable in ethics, generosity, bravery, let go things and so forth. Whatever a man is capable to do ethically, you have to divide this by minimum 5 to get what a woman can. Wathever a man handles and endures, you divide it by mininum 5.
One that doesnt understand that live in a world of fantasy. Biology tells you what to expect of a woman. Woman have the ethics and reaction that their biology allows them to, towards dangers etc.
Mary Wollstonecraft, one of the earliest feminist, said that man are better equiped to have high ethical behaviours :
" Let it not be concluded that I wish to invert the order of things; I have already granted, that, from the constitution of their bodies, men seem to be designed by Providence to attain a greater degree of virtue." Mary Wollstonecraft

As to the money, the law is pretty straightforward and is a reasonable system. The rules are not secret. Basically, without a prenup, community property is split 50/50. Our courts would be overwhelmed if the tried to allocate proportional ownership.

Most husbands are so scared they come across as neutered. I know of a Hollywood’s biggest Ad who is very respected by his co workers , the man is powerful on the sets. But at home this guy is pathetic. His wife wears the pants at home. Every little decision is made by her. She has hissy fit if he does something wrong.

Moreover, I was an inconsiderate, impatient, b_tch, etc. Thankfully, by the time I found my wife of now 30+ years, I had grown up enough that I never cheated on her. Moreover, I had also learned that when (If?) you find a quality human, and your crazy is compatible with their crazy, cherish that relationship with your life. If there is so much as a hiccup, get some couples therapy - before - things get sideways. Learn communication/relationship skills while trying every day to be a better partner, or at least have that last as a goal. Old and alone sucks.....
