10:01 - That is the crystal shifter and the infotainment system dial. It is part of the bmw executive package which can also include the ambient lighting sunroof.
The European version of the SUV can go 50 miles on an electric range only. That is not quite twice as much...but close. That would make an awesome city commuter.Wonder is it an US regulation,as they all use the same 24kW battery.Maybe some BMW engineer/enthusiast would share if that's only software setup and can it be tweaked to 50 miles EV range as the European version....
Its because of the us warranty which is much longer for the battery here than it is in Europe, so they build in a much larger buffer to ensure the battery lasts longer which unfortunately costs range
I want to get one, but don't want to get the base audio system. I want to get the Harman Kardon but it hasn't been available for the last couple years in the due to COVID / chip shortage / supply chain whatever... 6:07 I was very surprised to see this one having the Harmon Kardon, it must have been from before. Anyway, I hope it it available again later this year, or at least for the 2023 model year
@ben hardy, you briefly commented on off-roading. Please test the off-roaring capability on this vehicle. Would love to see how it does for this price point!
Phev is nice in the EU if you can commute with electric only since gas is like 2 euros / litre these days here. The US market idk if it makes much sense.
I want this as my next truck! It seems super efficient, all the reviews from TH-cam and consumers say they barely have to fill there tank. Stats like 11,000 miles and 9000 mainly electric, doesn't that sound wonderful? I will say I'm concerned about what could go wrong that's too expensive out of warranty...
You should change your power setting to 10 AMP if you are using the BMW charger. Charging at 6AMP will take forever to charge. It is not your outlet . It is your setting.
First time seeing a video of yours, great review Ben!! Regarding the plastics in the rear of the paddle shifters, I think it has to do with the feel of the paddles: when exposed to direct sun and very high temperatures (for example, when the car has been left parked during the summer in hot weather), the paddle shifters could get very uncomfortable to use. That's the same reason for which also the gear selectors are almost never made of metal. Congrats again for your excellent review.
The front air vents are not always fake, they are open on some of the other X5's (eg M50i). On the 45e they're not needed so closed off. The same front end is used on all the X5's but they all have different cooling needs.
I decided NOT to get the 45e after I realized we are getting the dumb down version of the hybrid system compared to the Europeans. I mean my build came to 82K and you are telling me I am not getting the best (or at least the "regular") version?
The hardware is exactly the same. In the US there is a much bigger battery buffer built in via software. This is done because the battery warranty in the US is much longer than Europe's so they put in a larger buffer to prevent degradation and warranty claims. You still get 30+ miles range which is excellent for a PHEV

Power is so amazing 🤩

@@doomsday9973 I'm sure it could be reprogrammed with the right software and knowledge
@@TheMilencio213 it probably can but that will void your warranty. Not worth it
50 miles advertised right? Good luck getting that in the real world. It's more like 30 - 35 miles.
@@kmwong1988 that’s the European version. Which has a much smaller battery buffer than the US version

What is max and min ground clearance when using air suspension?
This 2021 X5 has a nice facia with the fog lights. They got rid of fog lights for MY22 and MY23. Is it a supply issue?
I love the old skool locks very nice 👌

If the electric motor runs out of charge, how does it operate in hybrid mode ? Still with a mix or just ICE only?

Congrats again for your excellent review.
Should i buy this or a new Tesla model y with big discount and eliminate gas + self driving + fast acceleration like those million dollar car.
Super smooth and sounds awesome...
That's luxury!
Is this feel faster 0-60 than standard x5 drive40i?
5:19 - Gotta love those socks and sandals.
Info on rear legroom would be good
Does the X5 xDrive45e have air suspension standard?
Yes it does
BMW got a exiting car and a family car
I pay 76000 for almost fully equipments, no M sport btw.

Big question is what is the real world EV range? BMW says 30 miles but is it more like 15miles?
That gear shifter 👀
It’s crazy
$81+ and no cooling seats. ok.
That volumen knob!!!
