Drew: "Lifestock, like cattle, sheep, pig and horse. There's grains, there's the honeybee, sugar cane, uh, don't forget about horses, is that included on here?" This was from 7:01 to 7:06 🤣
The population projections just take the current birth rate and assume it stays more or less the same for the rest of the century. That’s not realistic at all, as the population changes the effects of it on everyday life change how many kids people have. For instance I’m sure once population falls a bit in Japan and China and as a consequence the cost of life becomes lower people will have more children. On the other hand I seriously cannot imagine Egypt doubling in population, the Nile region is already extremely densely populated where would the extra people live? In the desert? Not only that but Egypt already consumes more food than it produces and often has trouble getting the currency needed for imports since it imports more than it exports. The same goes for other countries who are projected to skyrocket in population too.
I don't think that's how it works, though (at least in regards to China.) China, for example, has over 40 million more men than women *already*. Not only that, but a huge slice of that population is elderly as well. There is going to be a catastrophic drop in people, and that's not going to somehow make the cost of living so cheap that the population is just going to bounce back. Less people means less workers, which means - in China's case - economic collapse. The population is getting too old and keeping old people alive is expensive. There aren't going to be enough young people to support the elderly, and when the elderly are gone this problem will only repeat - at least for the next few generations. Not only that, but China isn't going to be able to remain self-sufficient in terms of food production for much longer. And as China's economy goes off a cliff (as it most likely will), they aren't going to be able to keep up the necessary food imports required to keep such a large population going. I don't think that the chart is that inaccurate. The country won't be able to sustain the amount of people it currently has for much longer. If there is a population ceiling, China has certainly hit it. I can't imagine those population projections are that off. Maybe by a hundred million at most? But even then the Chinese population will have fallen by about 50%.
Another problem someone clued me into is the African numbers don't account for child mortality. Brutal and sad but true. This is just based on birth rates.
That's the danger of projecting current trends out at an unchanged rate. Like if you look at the sales figures of six-foot-tall pine trees in December, and if things keep going at that same rate, then everybody's going to have like a dozen Christmas trees in their house by May.
Yeah. Africa can’t have that much higher population. That’s ridiculous. Absolutely no African country has enough food production to grow in population a lot except for Zambia. Africa can’t go over 2 billion. Also you underestimate how many people can fit in small areas. The Nile basin can literally fit hundreds of millions of people. But it just dont have enough resources to support a much larger population.
2:53 “There’s probably some history behind this” … yeah it’s kind’ve brutal too. A Burmese person once told me where they’re from and I responded, “oh is that in Myanmar?” needless to say she was not happy.
2:14 Turks because they don’t realise different languages have different sounds “Persia” was always Iran in their own language and they eventually got tired of it and demanded change Thailand is better bc it refers to the Thai people but Siam isn’t really that problematic Burma comes from the Burmese people, which the current military junta doesn’t like bc they want a more multicultural idea to show to the world. So Myanmar _is_ better but it _was_ introduced by an anti-democratic state trying to legitimise itself Kampuchea and Cambodia are interchangeable, Kampuchea being still used in the east, but generally the Cambodian gov prefers Cambodia to disassociate itself with the Khmer Rouge Holland to the Netherlands is misinformation, it was always the Netherlands Irish free state to Ireland is just stupid to include, official name changes happen every time there’s a new regime Ceylon is irrelevant to anything actually Sri Lankan while Sri Lanka is more accurate to the endonym Macedonia to north Macedonia bc that’s what it is and they were denying it Swaziland to eswatini the same as Ceylon to Sri Lanka Rhodesia was the name of a South Africa-style apartheid regime Czech Republic to Czechia is like Irish free state to Ireland

One thing that exercise projection doesn't take into account, but changes things quite a bit. They are tracking extracurricular physical activity e.g. biking, rock climbing, skiing etc. but, not work related physical activity (blue collar work) which is quite prevalent in the South and thus you don't have people doing extra physical activities, since they don't need to unlike people who sit at a desk all day.
They may not want to, but they do **need** to get more exercise in the South. The states with the highest percentage rates for severe obesity are all in the South or near it, most specifically Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana (and also West Virginia, which isn't quite "the South" but on the edge of it).
@@SteveJensen-ye5rt This "The states with the highest percentage rates for severe obesity are all in the South or near it" is incorrect, according to the CDC the area with the highest obesity rate is the Midwest (35.8%), followed by the South (35.6%), followed by the Northeast (30.5%) and West (29.5%). Also the states you did individually list are slightly incorrect, but regionally are relatively accurate Louisiana, Oklahoma, and West Virginia had an obesity prevalence of 40% or greater. Also this comes likewise comes down to misinterpreting the data, being from the South myself I can tell you a lot frankly nearly all of our hobbies outside of our own physical work, are outdoor physically demanding activities e.g. muddin, hunting, mountain climbing etc. The crux of our obesity problem comes down to 2 factors, the first being our food while extremely tasty it would be tough to call them wholly healthy, for example we will fry virtually anything at the drop of a hat, the second is our habitual consumption of alcohol specifically beer, which itself is highly fattening there is a reason the term beer belly exists.
