I worked at that concert which I recall as being 1989, and John sang Help as a final encore, and despite having sang for 90 mins, was still able to belt out a rocking finish. ❤
Congrats on your 1000th and glad your pop enjoyed it.

It was great seeing a photo of him with his family at Christmas and seemed like he was recovering well after his battle with cancer. Hope he is able to sing again but if not Thank You Johnny for giving free tickets to the hospital staff in Geraldton Western Australia so many years ago where I fell in love with this song. Loved the bagpipes . I think it was referring the Vietnam War.

I think John created his version of "Help" in 1979. John and Olivia migrated to Australia as children. John was honoured with Australian Of The Year. The highest honor that can be given to any Australian.

He first sang that version of Help in 1980 it was at a royal performance here in Australia. I was a massive fan so I remember watching that performance on TV. So I would say you are right about 1979 being the year he created that version. He also was Australian of the year in the 80's, I think it was 1988.

You look like you've given your dad a present that you're 99.9% sure he's going to enjoy. I hope you both had a good festive season. I've always thought the seekers "we are Australian" explains the dynamic of not (always) Australian but Australian anyway.

The song that restarted Farnswy’s career. Check out some earlier stuff especially Baby Without You with Allison Durban when they were king and queen of pop.
Farnsey does versions of his fave AC/DC song It’s A Long Way to the Top as well as his fave Cold Chisel Song When The War is Over. These are extra songs on the cd of You’re the Voice.
    Have a wonderful Christmas x

    Other unofficial national anthems are:
    The Seekers, 'I am Australian'
Peter Allen, 'I still call Australia home'
Waltzing Matilda is also a favourite.
John Farnham is a national treasure.

Was that the edge of a smile on your dad's handsome face when the bagpipes started? Love watching you two together. I’d love to see your dad react to It's a Long Way to the Top.
John was selected as Australian of the Year in 1987. When this was happening, they discovered that immigration law changes (that slipped by many Brits) had removed John's dual citizenship. They had to rush to get John naturalised in time.

    Fun Fact:
The decision to add the Bag Pipes meant that the whole song had to be re-arranged because the Bag Pipes only play in B Flat.
The original song was in the key of F.
The consesious later was B Flat worked so much better.

Both Johnny and Olivia had very Australian accents and it is not something people find easy to imitate so they may have been born in the UK but have been here for the majority of their lives. Don't forget many Australians have come from "convicts" or from those who came out from the UK on the 1st or 2nd fleet. Freddie Mercury was from India.

Thank you for playing the version with the boy soprano and his beautiful clear voice. I saw this concert when the tour played in Brisbane, and it remains one of my favourite concert experiences.

John Farnham was 10 when he migrated to Australia and Olivia Newton John was 5. They did not come to Australia as adults. Their formative years were in Australia. The Bee Gees lived in Australia coming from the UK in 1958, they started their band in Australia. When they arrived in Australia Barry was 14 and Maurice and Robin were 9. It isn't like for instance an adult coming from another country to live here, we do not claim adults as Australian if they come from another country. John Farnham and ONJ always claimed they were Australian and they are very proud Australians, they never claimed their British Heritage. It really is up to individuals who come here to live if they want to call themselves Australians and seek Australian citizenship. I have never heard John Farnham or ONJ claim they were British, they always called themselves Australian.

    • @TheBrownlj
      @TheBrownlj 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Everything you have said is correct except Barry Gibb was 12. The Bees Gees became the Bee Gees here and little did I know until recently just how many songs Barry wrote for Australian artists when he was so young. Cole Joy, Jimmy Little, Ronnie Burns as well as Olivia and Samantha Sang. Another thing that annoys me is when people say Keith Urban is a Kiwi. He came to Australia when he was 2. He can't remember anything about NZ. So annoying.
