Seems like Kraken Royale's gonna be a great tool for breaking the enemy's line of defense. Activate Kraken, push into their line, and now they suddenly have no choice but to pay attention to the invincible damage machine for a few seconds. If your teammates attack then, it seems like that would make for a very hard-to-defend assault.
I think its not as good as you think. I mean yeah its invinsible, but you lose your shooting power meaning some more mobile weapons like shooters, dualies or splatanas have a chance to counter push your line of defence. Consider that Kraken is less mobile (has lower turning speed) and weapons listed above already use swim speed up. Plus Kraken is on .96 gal and roller which means less chance that you will have that ability

I like that it's fully invincible. If it was another HP special, it would just die to crab--not just break but straight up die. With invincibility it can stall crabs or other stuff and then run away, which is a much less awful trade. Also, adding something so reliant on its HP during _crab meta,_ where players are out to counter HP, just sounds like a bad idea.
@@ProChara you'd think Square Enix would be more lenient with Octopath music since when TH-camrs put music from that game in their videos it helps expand the reach of what is still one of their more niche modern franchises. But I guess SE is making the same mistakes as Nintendo in that regard.
It might... I've noticed the extremely new special, with the firable bombs, is something congruent to other specials like Wave Breaker or Ink storm. Depends on what you want to use it for. I haven't seen how much damage that special does, so its killing power may not be great alone. But it is definitely good with inkstorm.
I don’t know about anyone but i wouldn’t be surprised if a Kraken/tacticooler combo would be broken beyond beleif . Just imagine the speed with some swim speed and intesify action gear (if these affect can acctualy be apllied to kraken).

I personally feel that in counterplay against a crab, the new kraken might actually be the most distracting thing possible. From a solo q perspective, there would almost never be enough coordination to properly deal with a kraken threatening a crab. The crab would be forced to pay attention to it for its own survival. From a competitive perspective, you covered that very well already. As a splatana player that enjoys the ability to destroy crabs in a single hit, I find crabs current state to be fun to play against, and I think kraken would definitely open up some interesting interactions in both solo and competitive play. Edit: As a sidenote, I really hope that gear abilities still affect kraken. It would allow for some variation in its play, and would definitely keep opponents guessing on how and when the special would likely be used.
As a splatana main I love the fear in crab tanks eyes when they see me behind them. And yeah Kraken would definitely be pretty powerful in solo que as even the most coordinated randoms would have trouble against it. I can also see it in comp as a very good negation special. Allowing teams to regroup and force the enemy to think of how they will approach. It can be use to stop certain weapons and specials if used properly. It would be pretty interesting to see it being used as a crab stopper if they multiply it’s damage against hp specials. Making it probably used as a direct opposite to crab.

If this stacks with tacticooler, we may have a new offensive meta, and the super chump could provide a way for people to super jump into an area directly into kraken. I'm really hoping that these new specials synergize well

Does anyone else feel like Kracken Royale and Super Chump will soft Replace Reefslider and Tenta Missiles? (Any future weapons that would have gotten them will get these new ones instead?) Also, this bumps the Special count to a whopping 17! That's freaking crazy!
Tbh I hope not. If nintendo was going to waste tenta missiles like that, they might aswell remove them and give goo tuber, reeflux, and flingza the super chump. One of my favorite specials bubble blower could've returned but instead they bring back a special literally no one wanted back just for them to not even give it to anything

Man I'm so excited for this! I didn't play too much of Splatoon 1 but I remember the Kraken being an absolute blast to play around with and I had such fun memories with it. Can't wait to relive those memories!
The fact that your editor used Final Fantasy XIV music in this video just, makes me immeasurably happy. Splatoon and FFXIV are, by far, the best games ever made, and hearing its music in a splatoon video makes me wanna cry with happiness. Logo is also just, a rally good editor in general. @@Mad-Goose tbh I think stamper might get charas fabled kit that he wants for the range blaster. I can't really see many subs working with the splatanas but the few I do see working is angle shooter, splat bomb, and fizzy bomb

I was not expecting High and Broken, that first riff nearly stopped my heart with suprise. Anyway, Kraken honestly seems like the natural answer to a lot of the stuff that's been plagueing the meta, and it's honestly really fortunate that it was the first new special in development. Although I can definitely see it only ending up on some real stinkers of kits, maybe the random number generator that decides kit combinations will bless an actually cool weapon with a place in the meta with this.

I really hope there's a Kraken boss fight in Side Order. Just imagine it going at you like a samurai and you have to squid roll back and forth left and right to not die. Also it could come out of the ground like that Salmon Run enemy that puts a circle on the floor and tries to get into it but inverted. It tries to get out of the ground not into it. Also it could fly like a very slow rocket and drop bombs ink made bombs onto you. It's all just variations of the same swiping attack. It swipes at you, it swipes from beneath you vertically and swipes in the air dropping projectiles. It's all similar so the boss fight doesn't seem polarizing. Like imagine having a bunch of gimmicky Mario-like bosses and then there's this Dark Souls lookin' ahh fight where you gotta dodge. It's more dodge focused, yes but it's still similar to the rest of the bosses.
I think with Kraken coming back, I think it's now fair for them to tune Stamp and Reefslider to match the strengths, mostly stamp getting full protection in front and reefslider having less lag or something

Still praying for octobrush kraken myself. It’s the thing that made me get splatoon in the first place. Back in my last year of highschool, I even had a splatoon OC who used it explicitly for the kraken.
After analyzing the special myself, I have concluded that it will be an effective crab counter, but not in every situation. It's charge dash seems to negate knockback, which can allow you to rush a crab without them being able to shoot at you to try to stop you. The only situations I can think of where you can't counter crab would be if you're too far away from it when you activate kraken, or if they are in a spot you can't reach. Overall I think Kraken will be a good special for the meta, as well as be very fun to use. I also hope that swim speed will still effect it. Not only does it help with the now slower movement speed of the special, but it's also one of the special's defining features.

This just makes me want to be able to get infinite specials in Private Games. Can you imagine a game mode where one person is the kraken and everyone else needs to survive it for a set amount of time?
I have a note about it: even if you can't super jump after transforming into kraken ,do you notice that all specials can be activated before landing? you can use that to gain total invincibility while landing. But still you may be pushed back and not able to splat anyone ,so... that's why the squid surge(?) charge is added. I am a kraken fan and is absolutely disappointed that Splatoon 2 is without kraken ,but after seeing this I was relieved that the almighty kraken is back to Splatoon. Anyways, good analysis vids!
I would love to see it on one of the Splatanas. I imagine this so fun as a pressure/offence tool for it. I think the two Weapons would be really good weapons to combo with it but also they will be able to get many of them in a round so hopefully we will see it on them
I’m so happy this special is coming back. Krak-on roller was my baby in splatoon 1, and it gets to come back in its full, more balanced glory. Honestly, I kinda hope they allow gear abilities to change it. Another option I could see for intensify action is if they don’t want to decrease charge time, increase how far the charge can go with it. I didn’t even recognize that the use time is longer, special up may not be nessicary. And who knows, this weapon may have high object damage and just lower player damage. We will have to see, but I for one am so hyped for the return of the kraken.
I got an idea, have Reef slider be able to overwrite the Kraken's invincibility so that Reef slider can have the trait of being a natural counter against other specials

7:25 looking back at this I’m super glad they didn’t have IA affect the charge attack at all because imagine how busted it would be if players could near instantly charge an attack and be able to spam them quickly with the help of tacticooler or some mains of IA.
(6:16) Worth noting that Kraken Royale may have a slightly faster charge than squid surge due to Intensify Action. The shirt which the character in the demo is wearing is confirmed to have it. The shoes also have Special Power Up so the duration probably isn't accurate either.
Some notes 1: Not only is there more delay when activating the special, but both when activating and coming out of the special, your inkling or octoling will briefly be at the size of the kraken without the invincibility. This probably means your hurtbox will be larger, increasing the punishable nature of the special. 2. Kraken seems like it might actually be decent at countering crab. It might be difficult to actually get right in and kill the crab user (though the bigger jump attack would be helpful in that case), but the charge attack should allow the kraken to dash right through a crab's main firing mode and get close to it before the crab has time to turn around. Even if the kraken runs out before the crab is dead, the kraken user will be in a pretty good position to take on the crab user with their main weapon.
As I said on twitter, I hope the release of kraken doesn't just make them give up on balancing reefslider or ultra stamp, I would love to see these three specials find their niches (i.e. reefslider for quick burst breaching, against maybe like a charger or other immobile weapon, Stamp as your 'killing' rusher who aims to get picks, and kraken as your 'spearhead' type of rushing, where you follow behind it and support it on it's way in.) I know it's unlikely that all 3 will be equal in power to eachother, but I hope they can find a way to make them all viable against their competition
I honestly just want the Kraken special to come with a splatana wiper kit since it would probably fit well with it but since the current one has ultra stamp I can see why they won't give a splatana wiper Kraken.
If kraken royale is effected by Intensify Action Up, it'd be cool to see it on Range Blaster, since both would be affected by Intensify and it'd be a throwback to splatoon 1

You would need to pick the soda first and then activate kraken, since swim form can't pick from tacticooler.

I think with Kraken coming back, I think it's now fair for them to tune Stamp and Reefslider to match the strengths, mostly stamp getting full protection in front and reefslider having less lag or something
Reefslider really needs a bigger explosion radius and / or less startup.

Still praying for octobrush kraken myself. It’s the thing that made me get splatoon in the first place. Back in my last year of highschool, I even had a splatoon OC who used it explicitly for the kraken.

After analyzing the special myself, I have concluded that it will be an effective crab counter, but not in every situation. It's charge dash seems to negate knockback, which can allow you to rush a crab without them being able to shoot at you to try to stop you. The only situations I can think of where you can't counter crab would be if you're too far away from it when you activate kraken, or if they are in a spot you can't reach. Overall I think Kraken will be a good special for the meta, as well as be very fun to use. I also hope that swim speed will still effect it. Not only does it help with the now slower movement speed of the special, but it's also one of the special's defining features.
my theory why the kraken is larger in splatoon 3 is because the inklings(and octos) are older

This just makes me want to be able to get infinite specials in Private Games. Can you imagine a game mode where one person is the kraken and everyone else needs to survive it for a set amount of time?
Honestly it looks really balanced right now, I kinda feel like making it a HP special would make it weak. Super excited for the update.
I have a note about it: even if you can't super jump after transforming into kraken ,do you notice that all specials can be activated before landing? you can use that to gain total invincibility while landing. But still you may be pushed back and not able to splat anyone ,so... that's why the squid surge(?) charge is added.
I am a kraken fan and is absolutely disappointed that Splatoon 2 is without kraken ,but after seeing this I was relieved that the almighty kraken is back to Splatoon. Anyways, good analysis vids!

I would love to see it on one of the Splatanas. I imagine this so fun as a pressure/offence tool for it. I think the two Weapons would be really good weapons to combo with it but also they will be able to get many of them in a round so hopefully we will see it on them
I’m so happy this special is coming back. Krak-on roller was my baby in splatoon 1, and it gets to come back in its full, more balanced glory. Honestly, I kinda hope they allow gear abilities to change it. Another option I could see for intensify action is if they don’t want to decrease charge time, increase how far the charge can go with it. I didn’t even recognize that the use time is longer, special up may not be nessicary. And who knows, this weapon may have high object damage and just lower player damage. We will have to see, but I for one am so hyped for the return of the kraken.

I got an idea, have Reef slider be able to overwrite the Kraken's invincibility so that Reef slider can have the trait of being a natural counter against other specials

7:25 looking back at this I’m super glad they didn’t have IA affect the charge attack at all because imagine how busted it would be if players could near instantly charge an attack and be able to spam them quickly with the help of tacticooler or some mains of IA.

(6:16) Worth noting that Kraken Royale may have a slightly faster charge than squid surge due to Intensify Action. The shirt which the character in the demo is wearing is confirmed to have it. The shoes also have Special Power Up so the duration probably isn't accurate either.
I’m gonna have to play around with this. As a roller main, curling bombs are incredible for mobility, so we’ll see

Some notes
1: Not only is there more delay when activating the special, but both when activating and coming out of the special, your inkling or octoling will briefly be at the size of the kraken without the invincibility. This probably means your hurtbox will be larger, increasing the punishable nature of the special.
2. Kraken seems like it might actually be decent at countering crab. It might be difficult to actually get right in and kill the crab user (though the bigger jump attack would be helpful in that case), but the charge attack should allow the kraken to dash right through a crab's main firing mode and get close to it before the crab has time to turn around. Even if the kraken runs out before the crab is dead, the kraken user will be in a pretty good position to take on the crab user with their main weapon.

As I said on twitter, I hope the release of kraken doesn't just make them give up on balancing reefslider or ultra stamp, I would love to see these three specials find their niches (i.e. reefslider for quick burst breaching, against maybe like a charger or other immobile weapon, Stamp as your 'killing' rusher who aims to get picks, and kraken as your 'spearhead' type of rushing, where you follow behind it and support it on it's way in.)
I know it's unlikely that all 3 will be equal in power to eachother, but I hope they can find a way to make them all viable against their competition

I honestly just want the Kraken special to come with a splatana wiper kit since it would probably fit well with it but since the current one has ultra stamp I can see why they won't give a splatana wiper Kraken.

If kraken royale is effected by Intensify Action Up, it'd be cool to see it on Range Blaster, since both would be affected by Intensify and it'd be a throwback to splatoon 1
