It's a joke to call these rail lines "Canadian" at all, given that they're American owned. We should take back our rail companies. The news is as usual failing to explain the terms of the dispute, i.e.: workday increase from 10hrs to 12hrs, no 24 period between shifts, forced relocation to far flung understaffed locations for weeks or months at a time. Not a surprise that workers are angry. Yet all we hear from the 'news' outlets is how badly this will affect the economy. Well then -- how about keeping reasonable work hours and giving the rail workers decent rest periods and properly staffing so you don't have to spread the workforce so thin? These are not unreasonable demands, which, if met, would avoid a rail disruption. A properly staffed and well rested crew running the railways = public safety. Have we learned nothing from the Lac Mégantic disaster? C'mon Global -- stop telling one side at the expense of the other.

Nationalize the railways. Enough money given to CN & CP under threat, making the Canadian economy hostage of two private Co. Enough of giving $$ to private Co. who hold our country hostage.
that would be good but it wouldnt stop them from striking... Global is usually pretty good but their bias shows in their coverage of this issue. no talking about the strikers, what they want or what they are saying..
@@malm1231 Not necessarily. The private entities that own CPKC and CN only care about profits, and damn the safety protocols, reasonable shift periods, and understaffing concerns. Also why lastnight at midnight all of Grande prairie Alberta heard train horns blaring as they usually do if CN is locked out of working ?!?!
This union IS protecting Canadians. You want an overworked, tired engineer at the locomotive? All it takes is a couple of seconds of distraction or sleepiness to miss a signal, or improperly set brakes. As we learned to our horror at Lac Mégantic which killed 47. Or the Hinton collision and derailment which killed 23. You need experienced, trained and well rested people running the trains. This is what the Teamsters are trying to maintain.

I have a hard time showing sympathy for the rail workers, my father worked for C.P rail and later Burlington Northern / Santa Fe in the 70's until the early 2000's. As his senority increased so did his lack of work ethic. These people are not hurting, he worked as a switchman, yardguy, clerk, and in the later years bid on the janitor position which at the station was the most desired position at the station during that time. His time as the janitor which lasted until his retirement at 55 he was making $80000 US and literally working maybe 3 - 4 hours a day while being paid for a full shift. He literally had to clean 3 bathrooms and mop the public waiting area, which was funny because the station had stopped having pedestrian traffic in the late 80's. I'm all for a man being able to take care of his family but it definitely is open to abuse when it comes to the power of the unions. Rip pop.

As Vice President, Harris has led the fight for women's reproductive rights, the freedom to live safe from gun violence, the freedom to vote, and the freedom to drink clean water and breathe clean air. She has also represented the nation abroad - embarking on more than a dozen foreign trips, traveling to more than 19 countries, and meeting with more than 150 world leaders to strengthen critical global alliances. As President of the Senate, Vice President Harris set a new record for the most tie-breaking votes cast by a Vice President in history. As a Senator, Kamala Harris was busy and worked across the aisle. Of the 696 bills that Harris cosponsored, 14% were introduced by a legislator who was not a Democrat." Reuters
