I'm really starting to wish I had chosen to do N scale instead of HO, just for the amount you can pack into the same space. Oh well, I'm already too invested to turn back now. Next time lol
20+/- years working on my O gauge 23’x13’ layout. Surprise, I’m unexpectedly injured and being retired from my job (Thank God my wife is still working; we are blessed with Insurance until the Mrs. retires and/or Medicare.) Fast forward we have moved, Thank God again, into a condo with a garage, steps are just for exercise & PT. Sold my O gauge trains but Praise God my Mrs. has ok’d a s-l-o-w start, within our “budget”, so I can still play with trains, if no more than an oval with a passing siding and a siding for my imagination to think but I’m starting to work on an N Scale layout. I never would have had the opportunity to play with new trains if, but not for my God, my wife and my injury.
yes and no more in a small space but smaller things become bigger issues in ho i was ok with slight rail gaps as long as the electricity could pass but n scale nope track work has to be much smoother than the larger scales ….wheels get smaller but cracks and bumps do not
Really nice video, I never realized how much you can do in a relatively small space. I'm just getting back into trains after about 20 years or so and I really enjoy your content. I'm switching to N scale from HO because of somewhat limited space so learning as I go. Thanks
Jimmy, I love your work and channel. I'm getting back into the hobby again and find myself coming back to diy to learn more. Actually trying your weathering techniques on my own cars
It is interesting that we find a huge road diesel doing mundane switching duties in a yard. Years ago, only a 600 hp switcher would be doing these moves. Switchers went away for larger, 3,500hp diesel-guzzling road diesels. I admit, your operation sure looks cool, and very prototypical of todays car moving, nice job!.
Aloha Jimmy, another great video- I've read through some of the earlier comments and would like to address here. Rocking and bouncing of cars on track just watch some railfan videos of local and class c/d railroads and you see that a lot as track maintenance is not always the best. trees rubbing on train cars again the same if they do not pose a risk of derailment that is not a concern of the railroad. it helps rub the graffiti from the cars. LOL's aside thanks for all of your work.
Love your videos Jimmy, One thing i feel you should address is your track work in a few spot's. the shaking and moving of the freight cars on the frogs and transitions kinda kills the visual aspect. Have you added weights to all your cars per the NMRA specs for N scale as well? Otherwise love your videos and 3D printing info. Made up my mind to get a resin and filament printer for HO scale.
I disagree. Respectfully of course. When I used to work in central California next to a switching yard, the cars were always wobbling around. Especially when they were empty. Those were almost always the ones that would derail at the frogs.
Love your loco #8888. I assume that it is a scaletrains model. Would love to have one myself one day. Also, love you content. So helpful for us newcomers into the hobby.
I am not criticism but using your video sure shows a lot of oops, like the one tree that almost knocked your cars off the track when both backing them up and pulling forward, that the bumps at some crossing need some cleanup in isle #3 ( LOL). You have given me better ideas of filming my operations and watching it on a large screen and taking notes of my problems. I also realized how important that the cars do need to be weighed properly and the trucks need to be set correctly so there's no bouncing around. I have a couple cars that I had questioned about how loose the trucks were, well you showed it does make a difference. Thank you.
WOW!!! I didnt realize what you could do with so little space! You wouldnt happen to have a track plan of your layout would ya? its a great looking set up!
Cool ops. I took inspiration from your industry on the switch-back. Only mine is at the end of a short industrial spur. It should make things interesting.
Quick question do you weigh your cars? If so what do you use? I built my upper level layout as a switching layout nice to see the way you do it. Still playing catch up on some earlier vids you posted. I have been converting to metal wheels they seem to work better with Kato track if you need some plastic ones just holler.
I noticed you have a Scaletrains loco with sound. Do you need the ESU loksound programmer to program this loco or does it come preloaded with the sound files?
Jimmy, I like the pickups, sorting, and drop-offs because it feels like it's much more interactive. I'm looking to start with a 3x5 layout and was looking at the Kato Unitrack Amherst 2005 layout. I was wondering what your thoughts were on that one or if you would recommend a different layout to accomplish the functionality as best as possible based on the size? Thanks
Gday Joe from Australia just need to know did could u put a link up to download the files for Arduino to make the boom gate and light work on a rail crossing . It was about 2 years ago. That one does not work anymore. Hope you can help me out Thankyou Joe.
Wow… your layout looks amazing. Maybe to make it a little better you could add a little more detail to your rocks and paint the industrial cars and industrial buildings.
Really interesting video. Great photography and narrative. Nice explanation of the situation and operations scheme. My only suggestion is turn down music volume or eliminate it entirely.
Got to wonder how money is spent on an empty car being moved around, especially in foreign territory. I mean UP or BNSF is rarely seen in the eastern part of the US. Oh, I can't say that I've never seen Foreign Rolling Stock or Power. I just wonder how much Railroads pay to exchange freight on a daily basis.
"lot's" is a contraction of "lot is". Let's not abuse apostrophes. If the trend continue's, then s'entence's will end up looking like thi's and nobody want's that, s'o let's s'ee if we can do thing's the way they were intended.
Please do not be too offended...but...for me anyway....your videos were great. However, too much talking took away from the beauty of your modeling work. Just saying.

Charlie: "Hey, do you see that?"
Floyd: "My God, it's a giant pinvise!"
The background music to this is great!!!

You picked a great place to start! Jimmy is awesome and even has coffee suggestions :)
You need Asplundh to trim your trees back! 🤣
I caught that too! Ya see? Jimmy’s a normal guy just like us… ooops :-) I can watch Jimmys videos over and over. Great details and great descriptions.
Great layout ! Watched it with pleasure! Thanks!
Nice one Jimmy, thanks for sharing.
Another great video. Your different shooting angles make your layout look much larger than it is--great work.
Jimmy, I love your work and channel. I'm getting back into the hobby again and find myself coming back to diy to learn more. Actually trying your weathering techniques on my own cars
Another great opps session. I love how much you can do on a small layout. Very well done
That CSX box car you drop off at the lumber yard needs a visit to the RIP track.
*_Super video!_*
What an AMAZING job and idea. Thanks for the wonder world of N Scale train narration
It's always nice to see people running trains
This looked like great fun. You can do so much on your relatively small layout. Thanks for sharing.
I like the way you did your opps session. Thanks for sharing.
Looking good Jimmy. I suppose this is really what it is all about.
This is fantastic. So many ideas and illustrations. Thanks Jimmy!!
I loved this video. The Exec 70MAC was super cool. The video ended abruptly tho.
love this, you do great work!!!
Very well done Jimmy. Lots of operation activity.

Great job on Forrest and rock scene
Really Like your Layout quite Productive at Best.
Always fun to watch! Thank you!
Great video Jimmy. I’m gonna fire up my trains as soon as I get off work. 🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂
Yet another awesome video :) operations are my ultimate goal, but for now it's gonna be the scenery etc. thanks again for taking time to share!
So cool thank you for sharing

Looks like fun how do you uncouple the wagons?

Might need to replace some of those knuckles lol.

Nice layout.
How big is it?
I am considering to make the chance from H0 to N scale.
Are you using MicroTrains trucks and couplers? Are the couplers truck mounted or body mounted? I use truck mounted as they are easier.
I know these take you a long time to put together Jimmy, but the operations are very enjoyable.
What does the scale stand for(N,HO)?
What are your standard Couplers that you use on your Engines and Cars?
Wow, what a nice Layout😍. Im building a Big n scale Layout too

N scale is awesome, so much in so little. But not so small that it looks like a novelty toy. Just wish we had as much selection as HO Modelers.
More playing with trains please!

Personally. I prefer HO scale. It’s not too big, it’s not too small, it’s just right. This is just my opinion but I’d love to hear your thoughts on it
Sehr schön. 👍👍👍👍👍🤗🤗🤗🤗🇺🇲🚂🇺🇲
Nice video - do you switch out all you rolling stock to a single type of coupler or do you have a few couplers of choice that you like?
Is that blue building 3d printed or is it a kit
New sub ! Liked 🙏😀👍
good vid thanks lee
Have to ask do you know of the true story of run away 8888. if not look it up!
Very enjoyable...
Really interesting video. Great photography and narrative. Nice explanation of the situation and operations scheme. My only suggestion is turn down music volume or eliminate it entirely.
nice ops session
Lots*
was hoping to hear how the trains sound not background music.

Nice layout but the track looks too toy like
How do you uncouple your car
should've made 8888 a CSX
I don't need to walk into my layout room and find a train driving itself haha!
Slow it down to prototypical, thanx

Turn the volume down.
