The takeoff pitch was always something that amazed me about the MD-11. I have watched a few KLM MD-11 departures out of LAX and the climb-out looks very similar to a MD-80 or DC-9.
Amazing video!! I have just returned from AMS and all can I say is dat the KLM MD11 is a super amazing machine!! I enjoyed a lot your video. Thank you for your amazing shots! Love this condensation on final :) Greetings from BCN
I hope you got to do some spotting on the Polderbaan! Fantastic video. It makes me jealous since I probably will never fly on an MD-11 in my life. Same with the DC-10s.
Thanks! Absolutely, especially for the gate arrival. I don't think I would have had as much of a birds-eye view of the entire landing and arrival at LAX.
Thank you very much! This was my 2nd flight leg en route to BHX for the Biman retirement weekend. I believe this was one of the last KLM MD-11 flights from SFO or the entire US west coast for that matter.
Thanks for providing the runway info. It has been so long since I have flown into AMS I need to relearn the orientation of the terminals/runways etc...
The condensation was definitely a nice bonus! The humidity was so high at AMS that after we exited the runway, the inside layer of my window started to fog quickly. The window behind me was totally iced over from the flight haha.
That was a sit-back-and-enjoy-the-view kind of video, very relaxing and enjoyable to watch. And that of one of my all-time favourite airliners. Reminds me of my two flights in Delta's MD 11s. Powerful airplane!
First time was FRA-ATL back in '93 when DL had a hub at FRA; I sat right on the leading edge of the starboard wing and I remember getting mesmerized by that huge GE CF6 and the winglet out the window. My first time flying in a winglet-equipped aircraft too. The second time was much more recently in 2002, BOM-CDG. This in N806DE, which now flies with UPS. I remember that one well since my mom and I got a free upgrade to Business Elite. To say it was a treat for me would be an understatement. Glad you got to fly in this awesome aircraft too!
Great video, nice wing, flap and winglet views and above all: amazing picture stability at take off and landing - congrats !!! I had the chance to fly the same lady on January 1st this year from Montréal to Amsterdam (and Audrey Hepburn 5 days earlier from AMS to YUL). Great planes, great experiences - flight reports on TH-cam by the way.
Thank you for watching. Your trip report was documented very well. I am so fascinated with these wide body tri-jets and love to see other peoples' experiences.
Lol...I'd be freaking out!! It looks like that center flap thingie on the swing is gonna fall right off! (After take off.) You sure do get to fly alot!! Did you go to Amsterdam?? Oh! haha You just showed the destination screen. How awesome is that?? Hope you are having, or had a great time! That was a long flight. But real nice plane. And that shot of the moon is incredible!! And as always, great shots of the plane and the surrounding area. ooh BRR. It looks cold coming in for a landing..... KLUNK!! We're heeeeere!!! (Sorry I am getting all excited. lol) Hope you had a great time in the Netherlands~ PS Next time turn the camera around and say hi to us!! ;-)
Thanks for watching. Unfortunately Amsterdam was only a connection as I was in en-route to Birmingham England. I hope to visit Amsterdam again some day to enjoy the city and go plane spotting at the airport.
vegasjill21 That 'thing' in the middle of the wing is part of the aileron system on the md-11. It moves as the pilots tell it to. It's purpose is to bank the plane left or right, depending on where the pilots want to turn.
OMG! Thank you so much for sharing this with us! The tri-jet is quite a majestic jet, however I believe the one you flew on is a MD-11ER? Not sure on MD-11 range so, I'm just guessing.
Thank you for stopping by and watching! I would be curious to know if KLM's remaining MD-11's are an ER variant. Nonetheless the Tri-Jets are indeed majestic aircraft :)
Saw this bird a while back when I flew to México out of SFO a couple months ago, it was 3 gates down from us. It looked so pretty I wanted to get ok it myself
Hi Dale, thank you for watching! The camera used for this vid is the Sony HX-100V which now has newer models. Some of the quality you are seeing is a mix of the camera and light post-production / exposure editing.
Thanks for watching! Would be very nice to see these planes having a second life with cargo carriers. Is KLM sending most of the retired 11's for cargo use or are a portion of them going to be scrapped?
LoveJT8D Sadly they will be scrapped 2 of them already are at victorville the remaing Md11 at KLM are PH-KCA KCB KCD KCE and the last flight is scheduled for 25th october this year montreal-ams and than its over love these birds the KLM 747 is older you know and they are retiring from 2016
Starting Oct/Nov 2014 , KLM will replace the MD-11 on this route with an A330-300. Sad to see the MD-11 go as it was the only MD-11 passenger service we had.
I was checking this route as of April via some Kayak searches and I cannot find the MD-11 anymore. It looks like KLM is using the 744 for the non-stop SFO-AMS route currently. I was still able to find the MD-11 operating out of Montreal.
Yes the 747-400 is KLM's peak season aircraft to SFO and should be around until October. It looks like KLM is down to just several MD-11's left in the fleet until they are all gone by fall season.
Loving MD-11...too bad there is no more passenger MD-11 flying...I managed to capture the last flight from YYZ....check it out....BTW...I subscribed to your channel...
I wish I could have experienced the L-1011 more than I have. I flew a Delta L-1011 on a trip to Hawaii in 1996 when I was fairly young. A few paper photos is all I have to remember the aircraft. Did you fly the L-1011 regularly on a specific route?
another classic jetliner really nice video. these are becoming hard to find as the years go by. thanks for posting!
Thank you! I wish the MD-11s would stay in airline passenger service. Definitely sad to see them being retired.
I love the MD-11, the most beautiful aircraft ever built. I'm another subscriber to your channel, and this video is amazing. Thank you.
WOW what a departure! I just love how steep the MD-11's pitch up at takeoff
The takeoff pitch was always something that amazed me about the MD-11. I have watched a few KLM MD-11 departures out of LAX and the climb-out looks very similar to a MD-80 or DC-9.

Thanks so much for stopping by and watching. The MD-11 really is an amazing aircraft and will be missed once it is retired from KLM's fleet.
For sure mate! :/
FANTASTIC video, love the MD-11!!
I hope you got to do some spotting on the Polderbaan! Fantastic video. It makes me jealous since I probably will never fly on an MD-11 in my life. Same with the DC-10s.
Sadly, I only had a 2 hour layover in AMS and not enough time to go spotting. I hear spotting at AMS is a great experience.
This video just rocks!
You certainly made the right call to connect through SFO,
Thanks! Absolutely, especially for the gate arrival. I don't think I would have had as much of a birds-eye view of the entire landing and arrival at LAX.
This Video is awesome! Thanks for sharing

The classic Md11., awesome
Definitely a true classic airliner with such a beautiful design. Wish they were still around.
Great video and landing on the 18R-36L Polderbaan. Nice view in the Cockpit!
Thanks for providing the runway info. It has been so long since I have flown into AMS I need to relearn the orientation of the terminals/runways etc...
LoveJT8D I can understand, there are so many runways. For me, as a AMS spotter, it sometimes is confusing also.
Great video! I particularly enjoyed the condensation on final approach into Schipol.
The condensation was definitely a nice bonus! The humidity was so high at AMS that after we exited the runway, the inside layer of my window started to fog quickly. The window behind me was totally iced over from the flight haha.
beautiful flight deck.. love the 6x efis displays.. colorful honeywell goodness
The Honeywell displays do add a nice touch to such a classic airliner. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful!!!
Thank you for such a treat.... WOW!
Thank you for watching :)
Very good video-great camera work and editing. I especially liked the good views of the wing surfaces at work:)
Thank you! I absolutely love the wing surfaces on these older jets.
Man I wish the view at 1:20 was still there. Lucky you for flying an MD-11 passenger!
That was a sit-back-and-enjoy-the-view kind of video, very relaxing and enjoyable to watch. And that of one of my all-time favourite airliners. Reminds me of my two flights in Delta's MD 11s. Powerful airplane!

A M A Z I N G!
I miss this beautifull bird!
Same! The Tri-jets really added some variety to airports around the world.
Me to lol
Lol...I'd be freaking out!! It looks like that center flap thingie on the swing is gonna fall right off! (After take off.)

LoveJT8D Well, I hope you get to do that!! You'd make an awesome video~
vegasjill21 That 'thing' in the middle of the wing is part of the aileron system on the md-11. It moves as the pilots tell it to. It's purpose is to bank the plane left or right, depending on where the pilots want to turn.
Plamen2007 Oh I see. OK Thanks! ;)
vegasjill21 Haha just trying to help out!
Beautifull aircraft

I agree, the tail mounted engine and blue color makes this aircraft so beautiful to look at :)
Cool!! :)
Great job!
Farewell, so those KLM will be phase-out by late 2014... *sob*
Nice video anyway!!!
Amazing video! What camera are you using? So vivid.
Hi Dale, thank you for watching! The camera used for this vid is the Sony HX-100V which now has newer models. Some of the quality you are seeing is a mix of the camera and light post-production / exposure editing.
Alrite thanks very much
Nice MD-11 video! Not too much longer until they're all freighters!
Thanks for watching! Would be very nice to see these planes having a second life with cargo carriers. Is KLM sending most of the retired 11's for cargo use or are a portion of them going to be scrapped?

Thank you for watching! I am definitely sad to see the 11s go, but it is nice to see so many people showing their respects during the final days.
The L-1011 is the most comfortable aircraft ever.... especially in first class.
I wish I could have experienced the L-1011 more than I have. I flew a Delta L-1011 on a trip to Hawaii in 1996 when I was fairly young. A few paper photos is all I have to remember the aircraft. Did you fly the L-1011 regularly on a specific route?
Arrived in Amsterdam and its raining....
The plane flew to mojave for recycle
+陳小明 Yes and not that long ago. It is sad to see the life of such a beautiful aircraft come to and end, but it was time well spent with KLM.
I
so a fake airliner klm bad service and crew
Wilco Int I have to say, this flight was really enjoyable. Friendly crew, descent food in coach and no delays.
@@LoveJT8D thats lucky than good to hear
