    I’m impressed that people can listen at 1.25 and build all detailed scenes in their mind at that speed. I guess that’s based on practice. I need the ‘normal’ more natural setting to mentally paint each scene and to identify with the emotions of the characters.

    I really enjoyed this book and have now bought the trilogy as one audiobook from my usual online book shop . It was a very reasonable price which is great because the level of plot detail definitely encourages more than one listen. Many thanks for bringing an author new to me, to my library.

    Miranda could have positioned Scott between herself and the thruster and detached the tether holding Scott to her and thrust his greater mass away, the resulting reaction would allow her to get to the thruster and then recover Scott and catch the lander.

    This isn't a complaint. It's a compliment: I like that this story doesn't try to be too realistic. Kinda like old pulp sci Fi which I love. It seems to focus less on realism and more on interesting adventure. It is a sci-fi story that knows it's a sci-fi story.

    I feared too much was borrowed from Star Trek universe at the beginning, but the author made it his own. Well-written, with no need to rely on vulgarity, sex and gore, it stands on its own merits in its compelling story and characters.
    I cannot compliment the narrator more. This is one of the best-read stories ever, with great performances in all of the characters.

      Funny i didnt hear of any system issues that required a bypass or any switching to auxiliary power😂.Although had us trekkies been in that real life situation we would of fabricated a similar case while enclosing the real one inside a container to block all scans and then welded it somewhere by the engines to futher distort any scans.Then faked a report claiming someone has raided the ship an stolen the device with fake injuries too boot.That way no one would come after us and we'd get paid.

    LOVE this book and the author -- really one of the best I've read/heard in quite awhile! Excellent story and fantastic pacing; memorable, likeable and realistic characters. Heavy sci fi, but not overly technical -- even the AI, ships, weapons and other tech are easy to 'grok'. I'm really enjoying all of Kilby's work (Mars Colony series also is quite good!) and am looking forward to more. Thank you, sir, for sharing all of this here!!!

    Regarding the word “embark” I can quote the movie The Princess Bride. “I do not think that word means what you think it means.”
    Of course I could be wrong and the word meaning passengers entering or leaving a vessel now means the leaving or arrival of a vessel.
    As a Baby Boomer word use can get to me. Wouldn’t a pilot raise a ship instead of rise it?

      @alexandruraresdatcu it's not a plot hole or badly written. The QI don't have the ability to FTL comms. The last chapter explains that they are bound by the speed of light, the device was the only thing that allowed the superluminal communication. Did you guys even listen

    • @alexandruraresdatcu
      @alexandruraresdatcu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JCurry1123 I did put a post explaining a few of the plot holes, you could have answered that one instead... here is a copy of that post:
      The plot is full of holes explained by the writers lack of knowledge. There are minor issues like the police equipment lacking any security when even todays phones have facial recognition or fingerprints, having 2 people in a shuttle and the Dyrell ship not scanning them, inexplicably getting away from neo city in a shuttle with 2 days advantage even whey they were actively looking for them, the QI conversation that are hours apart not taking into account that interactions with humans would have been possible in between and just strange behavior of the other parties to the main characters but that worst is the chase.. Changing your engine output from 50% to 100% does not help you in any way when you are limited by the fuel capacity, only changing mass will help you, since it was a ship and a space station fused together they should have split them up to lose the weight of the space station. If the doughnut station is half of the total mass then they would get a speed advantage of sqrt(2) (square root of 2 ) since kinetic energy is ½mass times square(speed) if the humans can handle that higher acceleration. Even with that modification they can not prevent any of the pursuing spaceships from destroying them since the Hermes needs to decelerate for days before reaching the Europa moon. Any of the ships following them could launch a shuttle set to ram them when they were decelerating since the shuttle doesn't need to decelerate but only make minor corrections to hit the Hermes at full speed. There is no need for explosives in the shuttle, the speed difference energy would destroy them.

    I'm really enjoying this, you always produce such good characterisation. Your previous narrator of the Colony One Mars series was exceptional - this narration is ok, but not as polished. Still really appreciate the writing!

      I like the reader to read according to grammar and punctuation, and not a dramatic interpretation and hammed up acting.

    Historical note: While phrases such as "lead them on a merry dance" used to be common only to a small region, the broadcasts from Sir Walter Meade's bunker in 2042 memetically embedded these expressions into the broader spacefaring culture.

    Do you know how ridiculously fast that little asteriod had to spin to create 1g?

    • @daviddavids2884
      @daviddavids2884 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1:50:32 your objection is not logical. how much spin is required to simulate 1g in a cylinder, where the radius of rotation is .25 kilometers.

    • @Cainite
      @Cainite ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@daviddavids2884 To create 1g _(9.81m/s2)_ it should be around 5rpm. Dosn't sound like much but given the size, insanely fast - not to mention the force you'll need to actually do it.
      I would have bought it if the author went for a more realistic number, like maybe 0.2g or 0.3g

    I'm fine with the commercials, they are logically at the end of chapters & so do not interfere with the story. If you don't like them, buy the book to fund the author.

      @@tonydabaloney I'm glad that you have found value for money from prime membership. My point was that funding this author, with these commercials forms no real hardship to the listener.
