  • For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ NUX just dropped the Mighty Plug Pro, I don't have one, but I have enough other NUX to know that it'll probably be very decent for the money...This got me thinking....Are Nux making the best budget gear at the moment? Please feel free to suggest contenders in the comments? For reference the MG30 seems to be just under £200 at the moment.

    I love my MG-30. Nux first got on my radar when I tried their Mighty Plug MP-2. I'm still blown away at the guitar tones I got with that (dialed in a String Singer into a Twin with delay that is my go to). I also could get nice bass guitar tones. So then, I was getting tired of hauling a full pedalboard with Iridium to my church that now has a tiny stage. Thus, I got the MG-30. I think the strength of these units is the realistic amp modeling and even some of the effects modeling, ability to load good custom IRs, and ease of use with the UI to quickly adjust things in the moment. I know the higher end units have more effects/amps/settings and stereo amps and cabs, but honestly most of that stuff won't really be heard by an audience, so to get great tones in a unit 1/3 the price is amazing. That's not even to mention I can record into my PC with it and it's even class compliant, so I can record straight into my iPad using Zenbeats. It has options to record a dry signal too, in order to re-amp using plugins. Just so much for the price. And if it gets stolen at a gig, that's a lot less painful than a full board of pedals I accumulated over time and/or a pricey amp. I can't recommend it enough. It's not perfect, but no gear really is.

    Definitely do the the Mighty Plug Pro if you can. One thing I think NUX could have done in the MG30 is add a Poly Pitch Shifter! They already have the Whammy, just give it pre-defined steps like the Drop...

    One more feature this has is the parralal signal chain thing which thfe POD go doesn't have. This comes in really handy if you want huge delay/reverb/mod sounds without muffling up your Lead sounds. This is a huge deal for some people and good to see a cheap modeller giving this feature

    I just got mine this Sunday, and though I also own the Mighty Plug MP-2 it took me quite a while on THAT original model to finally dial in about four patches that feel great to play and sound really good.
    You sir, aside from creating a new beautiful piece of improvised music or two each morning, can find the tone that is hiding in a complicated piece of kit like a modeler so expertly, that you are the go to person any time I want to see and hear how a new or older modeler really sounds when programmed competently and then played through brilliantly.

I've had to be mindful of my tone control on the guitars,and the EQ, but the scenes I've set up give me everything I need for Fender cleans and Marshall roar. @@metallica3604 @Avisek Ganguly To be honest, for my music style I just need Reverb, Delay and a little OD.
      Because I do not want tones of pedals with too many wire, plugs, etc.
      Just a simple Multi-effect even if I would use 3 or 4 effects only because it is easier for me to have all-in with a looper for recording (not sure I can save records ?), a tuner, an expression pedal just in case and few other effects.
      This is why I bought a Katana mainly but I have To use the software to see all featurings so I prefer a Multi-effect with realistic sounds if possible...

    I have this for 5 months now. I bought it for about 250€, 220 GBP. It is great for recording in your DAW, since it can push dry and wet in stereo to your computer at the same time. You can record the MG30 amp sim sound, but also add a VST to the dry channel, like Positive Grid BIAS FX2, afterwards. In this setup it has extremely low latency. The speaker out goes straight into my studio monitors. Awesome setup for the price of a soundcard.

I find with the MP-2 that I can set the volume of each of the 7 presets using the app and it's fine for headphones, but if I plug into the aux input of my Fender Champion 40 amp, it's way too loud, and I have to go into the app and reduce the volume for each of the 7 presets. Then I have to adjust (increase) the volumes again when I go back to using headphones! By the way, the Nu-x MG-30 is $299 in the States.

      I need to try the Boss GT1 as it wasn't really on my radar before I made this video and googled the price. Working on getting one

    I was going to say the hx stomp is the best budget pedal but then I remembered how much I spent on it when it launched.. 😅

    I bought the HX Effects a while a go, because for the music i play i need a lot of effects. Apart from that i like the sound of my vox ac15 so i choose the HX Effects because it has no amp moddeling features. Sadly the HX Effects makes a lot of noise while using the 4 cable method. Does anyone know if there are better options? I also heard that it could be a faulty unit and i should replace it. Any help would be really appreciated!

    How can I make a feedback loop using nux 300?

  • @UTAH100
    @UTAH100 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    PSA- be sure to go into Global and set your OUTPUT source e.g., monitors or amp. It is very easy to do and it made a night and day improvement in the tone. I was literally about to return it- it was that bad. Luckily I stumbled upon a TH-cam video that showed this. Now it is very decent and playable. It's still not Fractal quality, but very decent...and I paid $200 vs. $1800 for the FM9.
    The NUX MG-30, like the QC and even Ampero II is a dream to edit on the unit. All Fractal modelers are a living nightmare...which is why many, including good ole JC prefer the easier to use HX Stomp. Although the tone on just about any Fractal is world-class, the UI IMHO is simply bad. It desperately needs updating.
    On the NUX, everything works intuitively exactly as you think it should. You can make most changes with a press or two of a rotary encoder. With Fractal, as good as it sounds, you have to go into blocks, add/remove stuff, adjust from far too many parameters, save, etc. Even if you pay for and complete a 15+ hour Cooper Carter course (excellent) on how to get the most out of the FM9, there are still too many steps to actually do it, on unit. It does not change the poor experience. The PC editor aka "FM9-Edit" is relatively much better. In fairness, Fractal is pro level gear so it is by f a r more complex, but IMHO, unnecessarily so. There is not reason the UI could not be a bit more NUX and even QC-like. The QC is complex but also easy to use.
    FYI- My Set-up rocks...
    I am using a powered Radial Engineering AB/Y pedal. It goes out to my two studio monitors- JBL 305P MkII (cheap but sounds really nice.) I don't play too loud so it works just fine.
    The other OUT on the NUX is going directly IN to my Boss Katana. I am not using the 4-cable method- just to the input with the amp set to CLEAN channel. It sounds great. I have done the 4-cable method and it wasn't a huge difference but more of a hassle. This set up allows me to achieve about 15 feet of Left to Right separation. I also have a RC500 Looper in the mix and it is awesome- far better than baked in loopers...and it has drums and I can save patches and separate out left and right channels for overdubs. I have the DRUMS output set to the studio monitors. In some set-ups you can push it to just one but since I am using the AB/Y, it sees both monitors are one channel. They key is not pushing drums out to any guitar amp.
    TIP- DRUMS sound FAR better on a Studio monitor(s) with tweeter (crisp highs for cymbals too) than they do coming out of any amp- even a good amp, drums sound muddy. They are not meant for that.

  • @picksalot1
    @picksalot1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The MG-30 looks like an excellent Modeler, and if I didn't already have and HX Stomp, I would seriously consider getting one. I love the representations of the actual gear (Effect Pedals, Amps, etc.) in the Display - Smart design. I checked Leo Gibson's massive "Latency Test" video and the MG-30 came in at a very good 2 milliseconds, though the MG-300 didn't do anywhere as well - I think it was around 11 milliseconds.

    If it's just for home use, do you prefer plugins or modelers?

    • @johnnathancordy
      @johnnathancordy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me personally, it has been modelers, but more recently I've sort of opened my eyes a bit to plugins - especially if you have a decent PC/soundcard they're quite a decent solution?

      @@johnnathancordy would love to hear your thoughts on this. I'm torn between getting a stomp or going the computer plugin route. I have amps I love, but want something to give me a variety of sounds I can't get w/ my amps. I guess the stomp's advantage is also that it can function as a pedalboard too?

    I have 2 NUX pedals (was 3). The Atlantic is quite nice. It lacks MIDI wish is a shame, but not hard to dial in at all. The Optima Air is also a good pedal - evry useful. The Amp Academy though was a disappointment, and I had to sell it. Poorly organized, only a few usable amp sounds, and weak MIDI implementation.
