D1 vet here, been playing since launch. I played TONS of Court of Oryx since, back then anyway, I didn't have a fireteam or group of friends to reliably play with, so Court of Oryx was an entertaining way to do more than just strikes or hours of normal patrol while still occasionally scoring some nice gear.
Same story here. I’d love comin’ across a random player tryin’ to do court, helpin’ em’ out, shootin’ the shrines together to see if the other had more runes. Sometimes numbers would swell into a whole dance party. Good times
I wish we could have more activities such as the Court of Oryx, Archon's Forge, the Blind Well, and the Black Armory Forges. I am a D1 Veteran and played plenty of the Court of Oryx, whether it was to collect grimiore, for the heck of it, or helping others, I enjoyed it. Hence my saying above.
One of my favourite things about Destiny is how there's lore behind the mechanics of the gameplay instead of it just being "because video games." ~Cafecito
Lovely bit of lore, this. I really like the concept of a multi-level tithing system for the hive, where the most powerful of them rely on massive amounts of tribute. It makes us being able to kill oryx a lot more reasonable, since we basically destroyed his whole system for gaining power from the ground up and eventually cornered him where he was vulnerable.
In D1, we also had a mission (regicide) where we killed him and he tried to continue living by taking himself. We basically forced his retreat to his ascendant plane and then We knocked out the legs of his power before finally defeating him for good.
The Court of Oryx was the thing I did the most, aside from the Siva thing I would run to get my power up. Hearing you describe all of the encounters and being like “yeah, I remember that one” was great
I just realized the true irony in Oryx’s death - He died because he didn’t truly rely on Sword Logic. He relied on others to grow strong, and crumbled after we killed them. He relied on Bomb Logic instead.
Also D1 vet here. Boy has it been a journey. I have always enjoyed your content and break down of the lore. The complere story of Destiny was a masterpiece.
It was definitely a fun switch up from the normal patrol. The dreadnought is still one of my favorite locations to explore the challenge of the court being a strong reason for that
I remember spending hours just killing the court just because I could. Those were some good times, even if I'm not a d1 vet. Thanks byf for helping me learn the lore. Your an awesome TH-camr, keep up the amazing work 👍
I played quite allot of the Court, running the Eris bounties, farming tier 1 runes, running tiers 1s for tier 2s, tier 2s for tier 3s, got pretty adept at soloing it as the instanced match making made the blind well look well designed. it was fun and they are still using the temple it established now though I'm not sure if that is good or bad.
Court of Oryx was fun and challenging. Archon’s Forge was chaotic and wild with bullet hell. Loved both because of their challenges and special loot they dropped on those events.
Yea Court was absolutely awesome. There’s a reason Bungie kept doing it with Forge and EP and Blind Well and Altars of Sorrow. It gave me an excuse to actually go to the Dreadnaught aside from calcified fragment hunting
I came into D1 with The Taken King expansion, and played Court of Oryx for hours. I love the format that it brought, and really miss it. I had a great time with it and Archon's Forge, and was pretty enthused with Blind Well came in as a sort of successor. I miss those days.
I started playing during the dark below expansion. But by far i spent the most time in the dreadnought. The court was a blast. Hated when people left though. I did meet a couple long-standing friends while playing in the court.
Court of oryx was pretty good, archons forge not so much. The court of oryx was positioned in a certain spot of the patrol map where it would be the quicker of the two paths to get from the starting area to the third area. As a result even if you stepped into the court of Oryx and it was empty, you only had to wait five minutes at the most for another player to pop in the same area. Archons forge was located in a dead end, similar to that of the blind well. As a result you couldn't wait for players to accidentally wonder in you had to reload the area at least five times to find a group of players. This is similar to what you had to do with the blind well if you walked into and everything was empty, except I'm pretty sure Bungie had something to increase your chances of finding other players with the blind well. Archons Forge did not have this feature. TDLR Archons Forge
Court of oryx was good - it should definitely come back. I love the lore, keep up the good work. now i know why Oryx really dies - we had killed off all his power reserve and he was left wanting....lol
I enjoyed the Court of Oryx a lot, just running into someone doing it and helping out was always fun. My buddies and I always laughed at Thalnok, saying he was "Crota's biggest fan" and was fangirling over him
I loved playing in the court despite having zero clue how it worked. It was always a trip seeing what random guy I got this time and had to figure out just how to damage them.
I absolutely love the Court of Oryx. The entire Hall of Souls area is pretty much my memory lane, I used to spend a ton of time there with my old online friends on the Xbox 360. We would just run runes for hours on end and talk about whatever. I'd always have 50+ Reciprocal Runes from playing normally so we could always sit there forever, hahaha. All of the bosses are very fun to fight, especially because you can either melt them with swords or take your time and have a good fight with just your primary and secondary weapons. All of them manage to be completely unique from each other too, and even after figuring out how to fight them they still bring me some joy to beat. Having the ability to do it with other players was always awesome too, especially when randoms came out of nowhere and while you sat there focused on fighting it would feel like nearby guardians were multiplying as more people joined. Yeah, it was definitely my favorite thing to do back then. The Dreadnaught remains my favorite area in all of Destiny, methinks. Even nowadays whenever I decide to do some bounties I default to the Dreadnaught to get them done swiftly. The Hull Breach might as well be my second home. Bungie definitely did an amazing job on it, and the desire to walk around there to reminisce or to just enjoy myself is enough to get me to play again all on its own.
This reminded me of the destiny 1 videos you released during the taken king. Personal favorite was the arrival of the taken kings but the books of sorrow were superb
The court was a blast. I remember figuring out how to use the court in the first place, the different ways to fight the bosses. The rewards. All of it. Great times
This video was so cool. I had no idea there was lore behind each of their mechanics. Makes me appreciate court way more now lol. Thx Byf, keep up the amazing work my man!
Court of Oryx and the Forge kinda feel like proto-seasonal activities. They were fun and I’ve got good memories of grinding them with friends, but they were a bit lacking once you figured out all their little gimmicks.
D1 vet here, Didn't do the Raid, but did do the Court. I quite enjoyed the simplicity of the Court: You get a coin, put the coin in one of the thrall statues and face the boss of the week. It was simple but fun. Can't remember if we had to do any rounds before the boss, but that's besides the point. Kinda hope Bungie makes a simple boss rush like the Court or Forge one day.
D1 player here. I started D1 With 'The Taken King' expansion. Court of Oryx was a fun activity, but it seemed to lay somewhere between solo activity and group activity. I could never make any real progress on my own, so i would usually wait until other people would try to run it solo. More often than not, those people wouldn't know the mechanic to win the harder levels, so I never got to progress, either. But if I came across a good group, it was a fun time. Archon's Forge was similar, but kind of in the opposite way. I always tried to run it alone, and people would always show up to 'help'. Prison on Elders was my favorite, and I wish they'd bring back something along the lines of it. Maybe, with peace between humanity, Cabal, and Eliksni, it could be used as an interspecies Cruicible?!? OR even against Lucient Hive?!?
I had actually started playing near the end of TTK, yet I still found the court to be one of the places I liked to fight. It was a nice alternative to just doing strikes all the time and helped me with learning mechanics to boss fights that had them. Along with learning to what the other guardian's were doing, so I could be an effective fireteam member
Loving your videos! The last two recordings feel like the treble is turned up higher than previous recordings. I'm not sure about other devices but on my phone this results in a lot of high pitched s sounds and almost whistle sounds. If you could go back to previous settings that would be great.
Thalnok fanatic of Crota. When we board the Dreadnought for the first time, if you go to the rupture, he will show up. But he's invincible and Cayde tells you to leave.
I used to enjoy playing court of oryx while waiting for people to play with or just me and a group of friends would grind there for hours to get the special loot. Makes me wanna go back and play it again.
3:05 "zonk can get back right ogre" thats the FRONT right, as in R1, as in closest to the rally flag and to the right. When do you enter the back of a room when there's only one entrance, I'm sure there's exceptions but they're EXCEPTIONS.
D1 vet here, played the D1 demo once upon a time. Got the full game for my PS3 some months before the taken king expansion dropped. Not too long after it did I decided to replace my PS3 with the limited edition D1 PS4 pack that had the game with the taken King expansion and everything before that. I really like finding out that the lore of the court actually was also represented in game as the different encounters mechanics.
D1 Vet. Really miss the court. It’s what got me really into coop activities in Destiny. Hope to see something simple but lore heavy like this again soon. #titansarebest
I had fun with the court back in the day when I had a dedicated fireteam It definitely helped with the monotony of patrols and was a good way of scavenging gear
I absolutely loved the court. Which was great because I was so hesitant about the Prison of Elders content. However, it was through Crota and Oryx my Destiny Hunter found his purpose. To embody the Sword Logic. I'd wrap myself in worm flesh, Don their chitinous armor. Feeding their deaths to my light, and every death, was my moment to talk to the Void of my light. Crushing worms under boot.
Really enjoyed the varied mechanics and challenge of the CoO encounters. It was my last calcified fragment as well I'm my search for Touch of Malice. I would love to see Bungie do an arena style event like this in the future and if so, hopefully they can tie it to the lore and story as well or better.
17:50 Was I a veteran? yep, I remember getting really excited for TTK and I was floored when I saw King's Fall for the first time Did I play Court of Oryx? No. unfortunately I was too poor to buy the expansion and pay for XBL Gold at the time, so watching my Uncle and my clanmates on the PS4 side of things doing it themselves would suffice.
A good friend of mine and myself used to hang around the Dreadnaught all the time back when we played D1. He took me to the court and the two of us with the assistance of randoms patrolling the area would bring down all the court had to throw at us. Will always remember the incredibly annoying trio of wizards.
Been with Destiny since Alpha testing of D1, and absolutely loved The Court of Orix. Wish we had more content like that. Blind Well is pretty fun, and is arguably the closest thing we've got, but it's just lacking something that the courts always had.
WOW Byf this gave me chills as for me yes i played this raid in d1 still scary and yeah i played The Court of Oryx with two friends of mine the 3 of us took down each one it was crazy fun
I still think Court of Oryx was the best patrol activity in the games. In addition to the tiers of challenge, the fact that the Court was physically located in such a high-traffic area ensured there was almost always a group there.
I remember seeing thalnok in the intro mission to the dreadnaught and being like “oh wtf CROTA IS BACK??”, I don’t think he was named in the mission, but if he was I didn’t see it. I was too busy running away and only found out later he wasn’t actually Crota
Seeing the constants and variables from Court or Oryx in the new patrol activities has been cool. Always loved the concept only problem is trying to do higher level stuff alone
Really want a vid about all the names from the king's fall weapons. I can tell they're all named after a dead member of a particular species, like Chelchis for the fallen.
Played D1 and court of oryx. Not a vet. Never completed a raid. Favorite fight was the two knights you had to bring together to kill. Felt the most frantic. Either that or the wizard ogre duo. I actually miss the concept of double boss fights like the centurion brother strike. I thought the enemies they would pair up to cover the others weakness while exposing other weaknesses was pretty cool. Too bad we get almost no double boss fights anymore.
Probably good that it has inspired newer content without outright being replicated. Kind of regret not being there for season of arrivals. I would say it was a defining mark of what made Destiny gameplay
When you went to the court and got to pop off with like 5 people it was hype. But I can't see it anymore as I have too many activities to just run around a patrol zone
Yeah, the Court was great fun, especially when you got a few people in there with you. And you were pretty much always guaranteed to have other people come along and join in.
For the record on the seasonal storyline, I think someone takes/ steals the relics. Mainly, I think they'll be of continued use/ relevance, and if we keep them they are likely to sit on the sideline. Whether that use is friendly or hostile is to be seen, but I'm curious to see who takes them and uses that empowerment. For me, the stealer is likely someone with a bit of access, so that eliminates Immaru or calus. The user may be someone else or the same as the thief. Don't have a great theory on who, but I don't see it being Eramis.
I'm a vet. Played D1 from day 1. It was...slow at first. And less then stellar in terms of content. Court of oryx was definitely an Improvement at the time. I remember wanting them to do a similar thing with the Vex. Maybe shed some more light on them. Pun not intended. We still know so little about them, compared to the other factions.
I feel like we get so much information on the courts and kin of Oryx but we never get to hear about Nokris. Being a necromancer comes with benefits. Perhaps even, ways to subvert his own death

Good times
I LOVED the court. Minor mechanics mixed with random players against challenging combatants.
Same here
Oryx...The King of Shapes. The First Navigator. The Taken King. Doom of All, and Servant of the Deep.
Killed permanently by a group of clueless idiots XD
And my axe!
'Wear his ass like a hat'
"My man, Oryx."
And defeated by 6 mad dancing Guardians
I wish we could have more activities such as the Court of Oryx, Archon's Forge, the Blind Well, and the Black Armory Forges.
I am a D1 Veteran and played plenty of the Court of Oryx, whether it was to collect grimiore, for the heck of it, or helping others, I enjoyed it. Hence my saying above.
Don't forget escalation protocol...ahh, would be interesting to see it with all the 3.0 Subclasses ee have now
@@HunterGunther9 Of course, silly me. That too.
The atmosphere of the Dreadnaught made the Court of Oryx fun. The music was incredible. Good times.
One of my favourite things about Destiny is how there's lore behind the mechanics of the gameplay instead of it just being "because video games." ~Cafecito

Like I said before, Oryx deserves more respect than to be treated like fodder. Dude was a KING for a reason.
thank you
“Laugh and laugh at Thalnok! He is easily deceived. He will never hear this song. Diminished in sense. Small of purpose.”
I just realized the true irony in Oryx’s death - He died because he didn’t truly rely on Sword Logic. He relied on others to grow strong, and crumbled after we killed them. He relied on Bomb Logic instead.
The Court of Oryx was my Favorite activity.
Met so many friends just waiting for a Rune.
I didn't realized that there was a Marathon reference in the Oryx lore. That whole "eat the path" bit sound familiar to anyone else?
I started hooting and hollering when I recognized it
Also D1 vet here. Boy has it been a journey. I have always enjoyed your content and break down of the lore. The complere story of Destiny was a masterpiece.
I do miss the court of Oryx. These bosses were unique and didn't know the bosses backstories until now.
It was definitely a fun switch up from the normal patrol. The dreadnought is still one of my favorite locations to explore the challenge of the court being a strong reason for that

Taken King was my first introduction to Destiny. By far my favorite expansion since then
I like that Wormfood is an independent thing but also an Easter egg to Marathon.

I honestly loved court of oryx, and even more archon’s forge, great ideas executed very well
I loved playing in the court despite having zero clue how it worked. It was always a trip seeing what random guy I got this time and had to figure out just how to damage them.

that knights tale ref was perfect
D1 vet. I enjoyed Court of Oryx and the Archon’s Forge. I still remember having to crouch walk to both to find an instance with people in them.
I'm still not 100% convinced oryx is actually dead
His greatest weakness appears to be linear fusion rifles. Who knew.
I had fun with the court back in the day when I had a dedicated fireteam

Thanks for the great hard work!
Fragment 50 is just a massive Marathon reference, down to being Wormfood, dude
The Court of Oryx “public event” was one of my favorite things to do in D1
I remember seeing thalnok in the intro mission to the dreadnaught and being like “oh wtf CROTA IS BACK??”, I don’t think he was named in the mission, but if he was I didn’t see it. I was too busy running away and only found out later he wasn’t actually Crota
I was kinda hoping we would have saw a ghost resurrect the king after the raid but that didn’t happen
the raid had no impact on the story so it would be really hard to make it work out in lore
Seeing the constants and variables from Court or Oryx in the new patrol activities has been cool. Always loved the concept only problem is trying to do higher level stuff alone
court was great, I highly enjoyed playing it
Oryx’s fight is really just a big show to prove who is the mightier
And thusly Oryx spoke: "If life gives you lemons...
-First half of the third scroll of the king
D1 vet played both archon forge and court and love it the randos joining and all
I loved doing this event and making new friends
Never could complete a single run of the court. I enjoyed the lore of destiny more than the activities
I would love to hear a breakdown like this for the forge.
it doesn't have unique bosses tho. they're just enhanced enemies
Really want a vid about all the names from the king's fall weapons. I can tell they're all named after a dead member of a particular species, like Chelchis for the fallen.
Who is zonk and why must he get back right ogre?
Really enjoyed the dreadnought. I wish I could still explore and battle on Oryx's ship.
Court was good stuff, just wander in and see if something was going on and join the fun! I guess Blind Well is sort of like that.

As devoted to the final shape that oryx was I’m surprised he never got the disciple title I mean how triumphs does the witness make u get ?
I enjoyed the Court of Oryx as it was incredibly challenging but at the same time, quite rewarding.

Yeah, the Court was great fun, especially when you got a few people in there with you. And you were pretty much always guaranteed to have other people come along and join in.

Court was one of the best public encounters
Love your videos byf!
Look at these unique boss models. Especially the duo knights and THE WIZARD. Modern bungie could never.
More Dynasty-like content please. It was amazing. D1D1 Warlock here
yes i did play D1 court
it always was a battle to get your own ruin in :P
The court was great for the first few weeks, but I never had enough time to farm for antiquated runes
God I love oryx lore and loved it in d2 finding the fragments
Yup, I killed those fools back in D1. I'd much prefer that type of pve arena content than the seasonal activity cycle we've had for awhile now.
Great video!!!
Oh the poetry of the books of sorrow 🤌🏾
I remember having to leave and enter the room so many times to get guardians to join the court of oryx
