  • Destiny 2's Lore and Story would have been completely different were it not for The Great Disaster. At this moment, the Guardian armies marched on the moon to try and reclaim it. Crota met them in battle and soundly defeated them. In the battle, Crota killed the legendary Titan Wei Ning. In doing so, he unintentionally set a chain of events in motion that would lead to the Crota's End Raid, and his final defeat.

      It’s a quote I’ve heard from somewhere but, “Arrogance is often the undoing of many empires”. In this case, the Hive’s overconfidence in their logic will bring about their end. After the Xivu and Savathun are dealt with, and the Witness, the Hive Gods will be hunted down. And next to die. After that, the Hive will do most of the work: eating and killing each other, as we slaughter the remaining Hive left alive.

      Yeah crotas arrogance in general really paved to the complete collapse of oryx’s reign, and by the end of destiny probably the entire hive as we know them. In spite of the amount of tribute he gave oryx he really created a lot of problems for his father, worst of all us.

    Considering Crota essentially created the Eris Morn we know now, the one hellbent on vengeance and the genocide of the Hive, he probably had no idea just what kind of monster her would unleash upon his own family. They had lived by the sword, and by failing to enact their logic upon one soul, they will die by it. They’d unwitting sewed their own destruction in creating, The Bane of the Hive, Eris Morn.

    • @erenaygun9696
      @erenaygun9696 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hive doesn't care. If Eris genocides all of Hive, Hive simply see if as they themselves do not deserve to exist. They live accordingly to their own Logic, and are fine if with if if others kill them.
      Destiny's lore doesn't match its gameplay. I only follow the lore never played/will never play the game itself, and it was Hive who draw me into the lore. Hive is the most interesting faction in Destiny, infinitely more interesting than humanity.

      @erenaygun9696 I agree that if the hive lived up to their principles that is how they would behave, but a major plot point of this season appears to be that Xivu Arath like Oryx before her is not living up to the sword logic, and are seeking vengence.

    • @soulsurvivor8293
      @soulsurvivor8293 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Twilight gap was a defensive battle, which showed us something crucial to our identity as Guardians.
      In comparison to the Great Disaster it demonstrated that we were better suited to defending, rather than attacking, in large numbers.
      Additionally, even with handful of Guardians that are well coordinated; We can hold a choke point against insane odds.
      It proved that Fire Team and Raid Team size squads could do more with less.
      And that we can hold off just about any large scale attack, bar the obvious few exceptions, with us assembled en mass defence.
      We are defenders first and foremost, but can execute wide spread offensive destruction in small well coordinated groups surrounded by nothing but enemies.
      They were learning experiences that Shaxx was already familiar with from his time during the dark age.
      Saladin wasn't as accustomed to it due to mainly fighting on the offencive solo or defensive with the majority of the Iron Lords at any given time.
      His first experience of losing a major conflict involving the entire Iron Lord force was being lured into a trap by Rasputin. He didn't learn much from that, except maybe a little humility and a lot of mistrust for intel gathered from a single source

    With the dibanding of the Consensus after the events of Savathun’s Eternal Night, and House Light settling in the City, I’m left wondering, what will replace it? Perhaps, after Final Shape, as we being to build our own, second Golden Age of, peace across most of Sol, the Coalition: our allied factions, their leaders and ambassadors/negotiators, may ally officially with humanity and the City of Earth, perhaps cementing a type of council to replace the Consensus. Maybe certain people like Suraya can lead the civilian government of the City. Perhaps Eido handles Elksni and human relations? Maybe Saladin educates and trains Guardians and Cabal so they can learn more about each other, and correlate better as fireteams? Maybe Osiris founds and unifies a research team of the Coalition’s various scholars? From the scientists of the neon-soaked Neomuna, to the ancient Techeans of the guarded Reef.

They’re government is more organized. If anything, they may be able to supervise and help the Vanguard and City influencers, figures like Suraya and Ada, create a better government in place of the Consesus when the war with the Witness is over. Neomuna could help set up a proper government in which there are civilian branches, but there are also allied leaders of the Coalition, and their ambassadors, included, as well as the Vanguard. Think about it. Maybe the old Tower is rebuilt as a meeting place where Coalition leaders can meet and exchange information. Mara and her Wrath, Petra, Caital, and her trusted generals, Valus Forge, Kell Mitraks and his daughter, Eido, and Nimbus, with Osiris playing the role as mediator/ambassador. While Ikora, Zavala, and perhaps Hunter Vanguard Crow, sit on the Coalition’s council. Suraya, Saint, Spider, Ada, and Devrim, could make up the civilian branch, while military operations could be delegated to the Coalition allies and their respective leaders. Led to a permanent change in how we deploy Guardians that holds true to this day. Crota killed some many of us that its now Vanguard policy to only field small teams of Guardians. The Hive showed us that Guardians can find themselves in a situation where they cannot survive. The Hive are very good at this, and can lure Guardians in an inescapable death trap relatively easily. We use three person fireteams because Crota made us realise that it is always possible for the hive to wipe out an entire deployment of Guardians. Three person fireteams means the most Guardians we can lose to one trap is three.

  • @thedarkgenious7967
    @thedarkgenious7967 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    forget creating Eris, IIRC the Great Disaster and Crota + his Disciples are the reason guardians are now organized as we are, with fireteams of 3-6 going out on strikes and raids, specifically as surgical strikes to take out high value targets before they get a chance to gather enough power/forces for the disaster of a few thousand guardians getting struck down on the field of open battle to happen again, as well as so that in the event of a team failing, only that team is lost, rather than the whole army.

    • @soulsurvivor8293
      @soulsurvivor8293 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is likely part of the reason, given how massive and indiscriminate some of the Guardian paracausal powers can be.
      It may be difficult for any individual Guardian to set parameters with their paracausal powers to not affect more than a handful of individuals at any given time.
      This may have been a contributing factor given the sheer size of the battle itself, thousands of guardians took to Luna's surface at the same time.
      Surely there would have been more than a few friendly fire incidents given the confusion of battle and rapid changes to the terrain that occurred.
      Guardians are most vulnerable when being resurrected or restored by their Ghosts after all.
      They alone are the sole source of immortality, and they are vulnerable to weapons of sorrow and hive magic.
      They instinctively phase into reality to resurrect us, even if it takes more time for them to build the charge to do so like in darkness zones.
      Luna would have been one massive darkness zone at the time with Crota slicing up the moons surface.
      Any collateral damage caused by other guardians to down other guardians would have caused ghosts to pop out at awful times only to be destroyed while building a light charge.
      The worst part is it would be almost impossible to know how many guardians died their final death due to this if it were the case.
      Would easily be more than 10% of all deaths I would estimate, perhaps somewhere near 15-20% in total from generalised guardian shenanigans and the potential friendly fire theory.
      Guardians were humbled pretty hard by the great disaster, without such reminders; Guardians would develop even bigger god complexes than they already have.

      It also pays to keep in mind that the Great Disaster caused the Vanguard to lose most all of its authority over the remaining Guardians and what had once been a proper military force was now more akin to the three Vanguard Leaders having to herd cats instead.

    • @thedarkgenious7967
      @thedarkgenious7967 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd have to check, but wasn't it the other way around? the Consensus, being the ones who pushed for an army to take Luna, lost almost all authority over the various guardians, and the vanguard was restructured into the more segregated orders we have now among the warlocks and titans, with hunters being the only ones who really play up the "Herding cats" angle.
      I know it also lead to the vanguard being almost entirely replaced, but I'm pretty sure they didn't lose any power, on the military front at least.

      It got so bad that it, alongside the Death of Cayde-6, had Ikora openly questioning if the Vanguard should be disbanded. I imagine the only reason that never happened is due to the revolving door of crisis the City has had to face starting with Season of Arrivals.

      One only shoots when something is not in, not able to be in or on the way to be in punching distance.
      In all circumstances, one will attempt to get into punching distance; Even when we have found that the target is near impossible to be in punching distance, we continue to try.
      After all, how do you think Thunder Crash was developed? It's basically the embodiment of the sheer will of a Titan wanting to punch something that's usually well out of punching distance.
      Honestly, us Arc Titans are the most Titanish Titans with how much our powers revolve around literally punching things in a variety of ways.
      Now with access to Thruster, we are even less focused on defence and use it to reposition to get even more out our punches.
      Be it scooping up orbs of power and/or repositioning to hit a higher number of things with our charged punch.
      Barricades are for the less punchy Titan subclasses that incinerate or blow things up.
      Heck, if I wanted to hit things with other things I could use a sword.
      Until the day I can literally rip off an enemies arm and hit them with their own fist, my own will be more than enough.

    I like the idea of those early guardians who knew basically nothing about the hive going into battle against them. They'd been fighting Fallen, going from that to the supernatural horror of the Hive must have been nuts.
    EDIT: It also never fails to impress me how devastating the Hive's conquests are, because they don't tend to use superweapons. Crota killed hundreds of Guardians alone during that battle, and he did so one by one, with a sword. This shows up all over Hive lore. During an early conquest two knights stood on a bridge for like 15 straight years and just killed the enemy one by one until they ran out of forces to hold it. Can you imagine being held in reserve at that bridge. Knowing that your side has been fighting these two individuals... with swords, for a decade, and one day your number will be called and you'll have to fight them. They commit total genocide of their opponents but they kill them intimately. Its awe inspiring and horrible. It's one of those things we as players never get to see because we never lose.

    All of these lore stories are proof of just how powerful our guardians are. Our player guardians are able to do things that armies of thousands failed to do. Sure, we have plot armor and checkpoints and respawns, but if you look at it from the lore of our combined accomplishments, we are some of, if not the most powerful guardians ever. We have killed gods, nightmares, and disciples that had previously broken countless worlds. Kind of insane when you think about it

      We never achieve it without help or vital information previous attempts have not had the luxury of having.
      Without it, we are individually powerful yes. However, we are also reckless and stubborn.
      Without the help and knowledge from others around us, we wouldn't be around any more.
      Our presence in this timeline is a testament to that, when compared to the numerous other timeline's Elsie has seen.
      It was only when Elsie had learned to relinquish control and trust in others, rather that trying to micromanage everything herself, that we live long enough to become a person of interest.
      We are an anomaly among anomalous entities, Elise took a chance on us and guided us down a path to earn her trust and faith that we can help her avoid the dark future.
      We are indeed a key player in reshaping Destiny itself, but would be a forgotten no body without the other key characters around us.
      It's as simple as that; We have the potential, power and tenacity to achieve the impossible. But only when working with the right people at the right time.
      Other Guardians consider what we do to be the impossible, because they have seen other similarly stubbornly reckless & powerful Guardians try and fail numerous times before us.
      Where we differ from them is the knowledge and assistance of the people around us.
      It's no down play to say that we wouldn't exist without that, it just an acknowledgement that the pure power we have isn't the sole reason we achieve the impossible.
      Nothing more, nothing less.

      The losses from the Great Disaster are well over a thousand at the very least and included many of the most veteran Guardians of the time, it's a major reason as to why Post-Disaster there was a considerable shift in Guardian culture toward self-aggrandizement and greed. Said shift has also led to a considerable amount of alienation between the people of the Last City and their protectors as they, sometimes openly, wonder if the Guardians even care if they all survive.

      Ah so that's actually from a bit of relatively recent lore, I think from Season of the Lost if I'm not mistaken. One of Crota's highest knights fought a Duel with one of Xivu-Arath's Knight's in the Ascendant Plane and was killed, this caused Crota to suddenly lose something in the area of a quarter of his Tithes and as a result he retired to his Throne World to 'make up' for the sudden loss of power. Before he did so though he bound his essence to that Crystal so that once that tithing shortfall was dealt with he could swiftly return to the material world to resume his conquests.
      It's not the best description but it's what I can recall off the top of my head right now.

Like Rhulk.. dude dived in to the deep, naked, took a leviathans rib with a snap of a finger and forced the worm gods to co-operate.. then we go and mop the floor with him when in reality we should not have had any hint of an chance in beating him..

      Mm. And it gives the playerbase an insufferable god complex. Look at how people treat Shaw Han for losing to an Omnigul tier ascendant hive? Look at how people treat the lost fireteams of Savathuns Song. The players are so used to kill stealing after npcs have done the work, or being treated with kid gloves by the enemies for the sake of plot, that they start to think Guardians are supposed to be untouchable. They don't realise that every time you go down, theres a non zero chance you're never getting back up again.

    This is away from the story that is completely being told in this video, but I love how Bungie handles LGBTQ+ in the game. They leave it as something that is just there, rather than try to make as many characters LGBTQ+ as they can. They also don’t force it down your throats like other games I’ve played. You could play the game for years without knowing much lore, and you may not learn for a long time that Saint and Osiris are together, or that Ana Bray has a Girlfriend. It makes it a natural part of their character, rather than a part that feels it was put there for inclusion of everyone
