I forgot Pam Oliver worked for ESPN prior to joining Fox Sports. I miss ESPN when it was at its best.

“Only college football can have a regular season event of this magnitude…and it’s much more special of course to have it in a college campus “
Words that will be chiseled on college football’s gravestone

I remember watching this prior to the game starting. I was in the 8th grade. My parents weren’t home so I was able to watch the pregame show and the entire game alone in the big screen tv. We won so I was jumping up and down and running through the house like a mad man. Screaming at the top of my lungs singing Notre Dame’s fight song. Good memories, thanks for posting

I was 20 years old but still just as pumped as you were.. the buildup during the season leading up to this game was crazy. This felt even bigger because you didn’t have the social media or other sports outlets as well. That made it feel very special.

I miss the Fowler days. The show wasn't so overproduced, and they weren't pandering every other segment.
Coming to your cit ay!! No thanks, lol.

It's funny that the very next week Notre Dame played Boston College at home. All Notre Dame had to do was win and they are in the national championship game most likely in the Orange Bowl against Nebraska. Boston College kicked that field goal at the last second which gave Florida State another shot at playing in the Orange Bowl for the national championship.

It also ended any real relevance they still had in the national championship hunt they have had good teams after this but not at a true national title winning level of talent and it shows when they somehow can win 11 to 12 game during the season but when the Nation is watching them in a huge bowl game or CFP game they choke and show they are still a weak team and quite inferior when playing against a BIG TEN or SEC team.

Notre Dame beat them for nothing. I’m still not understanding how the title wasn’t at least split ☘️

Because ND lost to Boston College, who I think was unranked, at home. FSU only lost to ND. The strength of loss is the reason.

@@welliecross2903 I’m pretty sure BC was ranked. 17th or something like that. Besides that ND beat FSU head up. Why does the BC loss trump a head to head win? They were unbeatable is all anyone heard.

@@welliecross2903 plus Florida State had beaten #3 Miami, #7 Florida, #13 UNC, #17 Clemson, #15 Virginia, and then eventually #2 Nebraska (only Florida and Nebraska put up fights and only Nebraska came close) and lost to #2 Notre Dame on the road. Notre Dame beat #3 Michigan, #1 Florida State, and eventually #7 Texas A&M (all were close games) but lost to #17 Boston College at home.

@@ND-9 Yes, BC was was ranked and you have an argument. Had there been a split I wouldn't have questioned it but I can see why it went the way it did because of FSU's strength of schedule and strength of victory. FSU was 7-1 against teams that finished with winning records and took advantage of style points. They racked up quite a few against quality opponents including the 50-Burger they hung on #17 Clemson. Notre Dame was 4-1 against teams that finished with winning records and USC was the only one of those that they beat by more than 7 points. There was no BCS or CFP but all 13 of FSU's games were against teams from major conferences, ND had Navy and BYU from non major conferences on their schedule. If they had similar strengths of schedules your head-to-head win definitely would have mattered much more to the pollsters.

@@stevekov6740 The fact is that ND's loss came at the end of the season. Had they lost to BC earlier, they might've had an argument. Remember that West Virginia was #2 after ND lost. The only chance ND had is if the Orange Bowl ended in a tie. Then the polls might've gone ND's way (since #3 WVU lost the Sugar Bowl).
