I had a '12 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec up until a few months ago when I traded it in for my '22 Supra 3.0. I bought the Genesis over a decade ago brand new, and had only one issue out of it in all those years. I took it to the dealer and they fixed it and sent me on my way with no issues (10 year, 100k mile warranty). I had a great experience owning the Genesis over the years. If they still offered a coupe, I likely would have simply bought an updated model instead of getting the Supra (I do love my Supra though).
I’ve daily driven a 2013 2.0t Premium for the past 6 years. Bought it with 21k miles and just hit 80k last week. I’m to the point where I can’t see myself driving anything else. It’s the perfect mix of style, comfort and reliability while also being really fun to drive everyday, easy to maintain, and CHEAP. Not to mention the rarity of these cars in general, especially the bk2 2.0s which were only made for 2 years and never sold nearly as well as its competitors. It makes me want to put mine away and daily something different to see what these cars are worth in good shape in 5-10 years.
Thanks for sharing your ownership experience! And yeah if you can afford to I'd hold onto it, the rarity is sure to make these more valuable eventually I'd think.
I’m glad to see you reviewing a stock(ish) Genesis Coupe 3.8 10yrs later! It’s refreshing to me, being that I’m an owner of a 2014 R-Spec model. Mine is a bit more modded but I love how rare the car is where I live. Nice video!👍🏽
I owned a 2014 2.0t Rspec for 6 years. I got it to 13.3 on the quarter mile with full bolts on and a tune. It was a blast driving the genesis coupe! Learned how to drift with that car.
Tf, you think that's an accomplishment or something?? 🤣 AP2's get in the 13's easy without going ham on mods. R-spec 2.0's, well not so much. Shaving a full sec from stock on the 1/4 in a Hyundai is much, much more commendable than shaving a half sec from stock in a Honda.

They last forever too. I had a '12 Coupe 3.8 R-Spec that I owned until a few months ago. Bought it brad new in 2011. Only had one issue out of it in all those years, which the dealer fixed with zero hassle. I wish Hyundai/Genesis still offered a coupe. It was still running great when I traded it in a few months ago.
I own my dream car, a 2010 3.8 6-speed Genesis Coupe. It's an extremely fun, good-looking and underrated car, and the exhaust just sounds gnarly. I feel like it could have been successful if it was easy to mod (which would make it appeal to tuners) or if they put their 4.6/5.0 V8 in it (to make it appeal to the muscle car crowd - and quite frankly, these cars deserved a V8). Hopefully it gets revived in some form in the near future.
Wow what a throwback, I remember SabbKyle04 getting an automatic 3.8 new back in the day. My younger self thought it was the coolest thing and the next " 350Z" :) Without this car selling well, Hyundai would have never developed " Genesis" into what it is today :)
Love my '13 3.8 manual Track. 135k miles, just replaced the noisy power steering pump yesterday and installed an oil catch can to help minimize intake valve carbon buildup. Otherwise it runs strong, and 0 issues besides the aforementioned pump, and transmission was replaced under warranty at 60k due to crunchy shifts caused by recalled soft shift forks. I'll keep this till it dies. Also yeah, the traction control is an abomination. I switch it off in the rain. Borderline dangerous to have the power utterly cut off from minimal wheel slip.
Honestly. Had a 2014 2.0t rspec with a stage 1. To this day, the best/fun car I've ever had. I miss it all the time. Had 245 fronts 275 rears, on the track that fixed most traction issues too

The creaks are the various spot welds from the factory that needs to be fixed. The rattle is the shifter which you can fix with an aftermarket part. I test drove one of these ( and a Veloster RSpec, Scion FRS, Mustang Ecoboost, BMW 128i, MK7 GTI) in 2015. I had a budget of $25k. I've always thought these were interesting when they were new but honestly forgot about them. I wonder if the 5.0 v8 from the Genesis sedan will fit in this with the manual 🤔
I’m considering trading my 04 V6 6-Speed Accord in for an Ultimate 3.8 with about 35k miles on it, but I’m not sure if I should make that jump just due to reliability…
Hey Matt, do you know what would the longterm ownership would be like with that 3.8? Are they reliable or like at least on par with GM's v6? I've been on the fence on buying one mostly because of the issues with their 4 cylinder igniting in flames.
It's DI from Hyundai's debut in DI implementation. Would not touch with a 10 ft pole no matter what anecdotes I see in this comments section. OTOH it's pretty funny Hyundai needed an redesign and DI on that 3.8 to not lose face to the 3.7 VHR the competition was running... 😅
anyone own this car and swapped out the display with a different one? i was looking to do it with mine but could only find stuff for the ones without the nav system on crutchfield
I use to own one and disagree about the suspension. This thing is the roughest spine melter I ever drove. I only got 16 mpg's in the city. Not that great of a car.
Where I live, this is the the car that is most obnoxious. They put the Canadian Tire muffler on it and think they are in a LFA. Then they get smoked by a stock GTI in a quart and say its rigged..

Hey Matt, do you know what would the longterm ownership would be like with that 3.8? Are they reliable or like at least on par with GM's v6? I've been on the fence on buying one mostly because of the issues with their 4 cylinder igniting in flames.
I have a 3.8 bk2 2015 with about 125k miles and never had any issues with it.
I haven’t heard much about these from a reliability standpoint honestly, but I’m glad others here are sharing their Genesis coupe experiences.
Never liked how these looked outside or inside, but they are a decent value
Hey Matt buy it
Should I buy this car In 2024 at 91,000 miles
anyone own this car and swapped out the display with a different one? i was looking to do it with mine but could only find stuff for the ones without the nav system on crutchfield
People do tablet mods just look it up
fantastic cars but they burn oil like crazy! And eventually the engine dies due to oil starvation
Do a review on the 22b sti ?
Haha I would LOVE to! Maybe someday someone will offer me one!
Brother do you realize all of these are in Museums
🔥🔥gennygang
Love mine. Too bad alot of these are getting clapped out.
I use to own one and disagree about the suspension. This thing is the roughest spine melter I ever drove. I only got 16 mpg's in the city. Not that great of a car.
@@r3games1985 well sorry for you others do better with it than you could ever. That's on you not the car. He's getting 19mpg
Bro but the genesis3.8...don't have engine problems like others ..and it's from 5 gear and on its can be faster than others 350 hp..cars
Good luck finding one of these that hasn't been modded to hell and beat on....
Where I live, this is the the car that is most obnoxious. They put the Canadian Tire muffler on it and think they are in a LFA. Then they get smoked by a stock GTI in a quart and say its rigged..
Too bad that Hyundai's idea of a fun coupe these days is an overpriced HFC abomination.
What’s HFC
HFC?
Hydrogen Fuel Cell
too bad this didn't come withe the 5.0l tau v8
Yes. Very subtle commentary on the G coupe from Matt in this one.
