Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes-My favorite of the year so far! I Saw the TV Glow-This joins Requiem for a Dream as a great emotional movie you only see once. Furiosa Fall Guy-Pure fun. Good cast, great action, solid script and some great needle drops. I was smiling the whole time. IF In A Violent Nature-A great concept with interesting cinematography and ideas. Some really good kills but overlong and thoroughly a one time watch. I get it being higher for other people. Unfrosted-Bad but at least entertaining bad if you have a few pop tarts with you. Tarot- Good to know Batalon is good outside of Marvel but I forgot what this was about before it was over.
7. IF-To be clear, I’d go positive on this film, but for what it was, I thought it was a charming, enjoyable family film despite not being the most memorable 6. Babes-A well done exploration of how female friendships evolve using pregnancy as the mechanism to explore those profound ideas, all with comedy that didn’t undermine the drama 5. The Idea of You-While the basic concept of this movie seems like something that wouldn’t be specifically engaging, the movie itself is a compelling story of how no matter how old you get or no matter how much success you have, you’re always figuring out who you are and who you can be 4. The Fall Guy-Despite not always balancing its several tones the best, the movie itself is a very enjoyable blend of a action spectacle, romance, a stuntman tribute, comedy, and an awesome cover of Kiss’ “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” 3. The Last Stop in Yuma County-A rock solid dark comedy thriller with sharp dialogue, tense sequences, and a cast of characters who have enough variety to them to make for a compelling narrative 2. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga-A very well done edition to this franchise that has a large narrative, high energy Mad Max action, expansive world building, great George Miller imagery, and one of, if not my favorite performance from Chris Hemsworth 1 Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Here are the movies I didn’t watch this month The American Atlas Backspot Back to Black The Beach Boys The Blue Angels Chief of Station Darkness of Man Day Labor Dead Wrong Die Hart 2: Die Harter Ezra Final Heat Fresh Kills The Garfield Movie Gasoline Rainbow The Image of You In a Violent Nature I Saw the TV Glow Jim Henson Idea Man Mind Body Spirit Mother of the Bride New Life Nightwatch: Demons Are Forever Not Another Church Movie Poolman Prom Dates Sight Something in the Water Summer Camp Thelma the Unicorn The Strangers: Chapter 1 Tarot Turtles All the Way Down Unfrosted What You Wish For Wildcat You Can’t Run Forever The Young Wife Young Woman and the Sea

One thing I love about KOTPOTA's world-building is the way it introduces the audience to its main characters. In the first scene, the three young chimps are shown climbing up to some eagle nests to poach eggs, and it's explained via casual dialogue that they were all born very close together, and thus it's tradition that they go and obtain their first eggs together. It shows real respect for its audience in terms of how it sets up this ceremonial activity in a fictional culture. The three chimp youths are shown partaking in this rite of passage - which was (I presume) made up for the movie - in a way that grounds them as relatable characters. It's a great narrative balance that immerses the audience in the culture of this simian tribe without threatening to alienate viewers. Kind of like what you once said about The Matrix having the perfect blend of high-concept, heady sci-fi and mainstream audience appeal.

I felt the same way about new life! I enjoyed it but felt like there could’ve been a little more. But sometimes it’s good to see movies like that, not too much and not too less!
Good ranking, Cody. Maybe upon a re-watch I'll like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes more. I know a few weren't released in May, but I watched them for the 1st time in May. I really enjoyed The Idea of You, interested to hear your thoughts on that, as I don't believe you've seen it yet? I wouldn't say all kills are off screen for tarot, but definitely most of them also if I'm being honest for a pg-13 horror film, at least some of the kills did push the limits like the high priestess scene or the hanged man scene, but like u said the movie is gonna be very divided with critics (even though I actually did enjoy it, just my opinion)

Cody ima be honest, Renny Harlin has not made a film of any remote quality since the 90’s. So I really wasn’t expecting The Strangers: Chapter 1 to be good at all and lo and behold😂
I think people are just disappointed that furiosa didn’t perform well because that means we’re most likely not going to get another mad max movie. So it’s understandable that people are talking about it not doing well in the box office.
I gave you a nice shout out Cody, someone made a video about Chris Stuckmann's rise and fall, I said I go to you and Emma aka. spookyastronauts for my movie reviews. You tell it like it is.
I actually really enjoyed In a Violent Nature. One of the few movies that stuk with me afterwards. The ending was weak imo but overall it was fun and definitely interesting. Looking forward to owning it on blu-ray. I get why it's so divisive. It's not a normal horror experience.

Are they even going to continue this new Apes trilogy after it failed to meet expectations? It should eventually get close to breaking even, but it’s not making money like of the first trilogy. It’s going to be interesting to see what the studio does with it.

To me, what made Furiosa much less profitable was that first trailer because of the CGI. I love the Mad Max world, adore Fury Road, but that first trailer just had that vibe of a movie that just didn't get the same love Fury Road did. I think that's why the movie did so poorly. Not because it was female led, not because it did not have Max in it. Just because you almost immediatly felt like that movie just wasn't made to be as visceral as the first one. So that's why I think the movie was a box-office disappointment. The average movie goer is not going to see Furiosa if even Mad Max fans are saying the CGI was off. The appeal of Fury Road was the fact that everyone was hearing how insane and well made it was.
I don’t think anything else that comes out this year will top furiousa for me personally. It delivered everything I wanted and I’ve seen it 3 times now in theaters lol I don’t think joker 2 will come close to touching it for me.
Yay people are finally admitting horror is in a bad spot right now. In fact, the past few years have been really bad compared to previous years from the past (87 being one of the best imo). I'm glad we're finally seeing people come out of the cope over it. I chalk it up to a combo of the pandemic and the writers strike. I remember how bad tv and movies got during the last strike. They still have to catch up from taking all that time off. Right now, we're getting all the stuff that was rushed so the studios have something to release.
horror is up and down i find. i think between 2014-2019 we had a really good run of break through horror, and since then its gone in a dip but maybe the second half of the decade will be better
According to the Letterboxd synopsis of the next Mad Max film (The Wasteland), it’s another prequel to Fury Road but we’re following Max’s story leading up to the events of Fury Road. I think I’m done with this franchise to be honest. I don’t want to go backwards again, that’s just a recipe for box office failure.

If anyone wants to know how bad of a movie The Strangers Chapter 1 is I'll put it like this. If the mid credits scene was replaced with a parody scene of it being a movie within a movie, it'd have made it drastically more tolerable. The characters are parody levels of stupid, I've seen more intelligent characters in Scary Movie.
I feel that Furiousa made a mistake with how little it used Chris Hemmsworth. Dementus was such a compelling villain, and yet he disappeared for half of the film.
Probably an infamous month for movies box office-wise, but I thought there were plenty of solid choices this May. The Fall Guy, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, IF, Furiosa, In a Violent Nature, Young Woman & the Sea, I enjoyed them!
The film makers nowadays know there movies suck. So all they care about doing is trying to fool the audience into thinking there movie is good and buy a ticket. Then its like,Got your money 💰 suckers!

Ponoc's The Imaginary released last month for all y'all IF and Inside Out (internal fantasy) fans
YO CODY!
I loved the strangers chapter 1 I know crucify me
To me, what made Furiosa much less profitable was that first trailer because of the CGI.
Hey man i love your channel, just saw furiosa i thought it was amazing. Anyway keep up the awesome work man !
5 min is wild
So jealous Cody got to watch cuckoo!!! I cant wait to finally watch it
Yay people are finally admitting horror is in a bad spot right now.
I thrive when you review terrible horror movies.
😂😂😂😂 nah for real. the passionate hate he had for tarot was hilarious
@@phillyanonymous i thought it was awesome haha
May.....the force be with.... Nah, that would've been corny
When are you doing another horror hot-takes???
For me furiosa was leaps head of every other may movie this month and kingdom was my biggest disappointment, but that’s just me.
I loved the fall guy and Kindgom of the planet of the apes
It had me at Richard brake
Tarot reminds me of the cliche movies like ouija
9:59 what do you mean it’s practical? 😏
Great list, Cody! 📼 🙌🏻
I also review horror movies
Really enjoyed this video,
Keep it up 💪🏻
According to the Letterboxd synopsis of the next Mad Max film (The Wasteland), it’s another prequel to Fury Road but we’re following Max’s story leading up to the events of Fury Road. I think I’m done with this franchise to be honest. I don’t want to go backwards again, that’s just a recipe for box office failure.
saw the yoga kill, not gonna lie, slightly underwhelmed, not sure what this says about me
I gone to the 🎥🍿,s
Watch
GARFIELD , THE movie
It was good to get out😅.
Dang no I Saw The TV Glow?
I knowwww cody is gonna hate that movie loll
Ok, all the kills were not offscreen for Tarot
Please...they were all cutaways in some form. The carnage isn't shown in any single one of them.
I'm watching it now and as you can see I'm on my phone browsing on utube what's that tell ya lol
At least there’s more blood than the Strangers Chapter One
Tarot wasn't good but it was so dry I actually fell asleep. I legit never fall asleep with movies.
Yeet yeet boys here early
in may here are the best movies i watched the fall guy 10 out of 10 kingdom of the planet of the apes 10 out of 10 happy gilmore 10 out of 10 the snowman 8 out of 10 triple dog 8 out of 10 anyone but you 9 out of 10 how to be single 8 out of 10 April fools day remake 7.6 out of 10 the garfield movie 8.7 out of 10 the rhythm section 8.7 out of 10 Bernie 9.5 out of 10 Slumdog millionaire 9.5 out of 10 the rush hour movies quigley down under 9 out of 10 and here are the worst movies of may mindcage 1 out of 10 with martin Lawernce saw 4 1 out of 10 and thats what i watched
Glad I’m not the only one that really likes IF!
Tarot is not that bad, the monster designs are amazing, Abigail is overhyped
Where is Garfield?
Furiosa was a masterpiece bro r you serious
It was a really good movie don’t get me wrong but mad max fury road was way better.
In a violent nature came off as extremely pretentious to me, especially that ending.
Your biggest mistake was thinking a renny Harlow movie in 2024 would be good
There where only 3 kills I liked in this movie
soo early lets gooo
It costs over $200 to understand this video
If anyone wants to know how bad of a movie The Strangers Chapter 1 is I'll put it like this.
If the mid credits scene was replaced with a parody scene of it being a movie within a movie, it'd have made it drastically more tolerable. The characters are parody levels of stupid, I've seen more intelligent characters in Scary Movie.
Happy start of Pride month everyone.
I feel that Furiousa made a mistake with how little it used Chris Hemmsworth. Dementus was such a compelling villain, and yet he disappeared for half of the film.
If better then Furiosa? I don’t know man 😂 i know they are different movies but if seemed so… soulless to me
Where’s Civil War?
In April.
Bet you'll watch a Abigail prequel 😂...
May was a terrible month no movies
Is it just me or is 2024 just a terrible year for movies cause 2022 and 2023 where a better year for movies
Not terrible, but pales in comparison to the previous couple of years so far. Although there are still a lot of movies this year that I can’t wait for
Wrong
The year isn’t even over🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ you people have been staying this for like 10 years.😆
2022 was so amazing it’s been downhill since
50/50 (As Captain Spaulding would say) 🤡
Yoo
In a violent nature was the most underwhelming and boring movies I’ve seen in awhile
I’m early af lol
To each it's own but I found Furiosa to be a blast and Planet of the Apes to be really boring and formulaic
