Hi, thanks. I just take my time, think it over and try different methods and options until I am happy. I like doing it that way as I know I’ve looked at a project from a few angles, and chosen the best one I can achieve with my skills. Really appreciate you recognising that I spend time on it... some viewers might not appreciate the hours that go into it all. Cheers. Dave
I wonder who these 8 people are who disliked this video?! This is great technique and much attention to detail. Everyone can see and has to admit this! Keep up the great work!
Daniel Luebke hi, oh I don’t pay attention to that. There are some petty, jealous little people out there! There are also trolls etc. They don’t even watch, but just dislike to make themselves feel better. Sad, depressed little individuals. Not worth bothering about 😆
Yet another fantastic informative video David and your attention to detail is outta this world mate! You must be over the moon how this layout is progressing. JohnE
The precision of your model building is outstanding. I always enjoy and look forward to your videos, even though I’m a steam era guy myself, I appreciate your skills and the way you explain everything.
David Fidler hi, thats very kind of you. :-) I suppose modelling bridges all eras, whether it’s steam or modern day. I have some who don’t like what I do because they don’t have an interest in Scotrail lol. Work that one out!??? Anyway, thanks again for getting in touch. Dave
Great update as usual Dave, thank you. Your factory is another work of art with stunning level of detail. You also make building retaining walls look easy. Look forward to the next update, Rob
Dave, thank you for posting this wonderful interesting video. Your workmanship and the thought you put into adding features to your layout is to be admired and your attention to detail is to be congratulated. Cheers Greg
Gregory Hale Hi Greg, I hope you’re well. Yeah I am really very proud of the builds I’ve done for the depot area. It’s taken nearly two years of planning, scratch builds and assembling. Many thousands of hours! I’m getting there. It’s really rewarding. Dave
Morning Dave, your attention to detail is astonishing, that factory looks fantastic I'm sure you can't get the true effect on camera but I love the tone you've got with the lighting, the whole area around the factory is amazing always look forward following your progress. It's a amazing layout you must be tempted just to run trains all the time and get distracted from the build. Keep inspiring modellers like myself. Stay safe, Eddy xx
eddy weller cheers Eddy. I do like my detail! 😆 I do love just going up to the loft and running trains too. What a brilliant hobby this is :-) cheers, Dave
So good Dave, so good! Your accuracy in the cutting and detailing of items is second to none. Beautiful work. Thanks as always for sharing. Stay safe. Cheers, Bob
Good to see you back! Them factory buildings look great. Some great detail going into it as well. Love the benches and the vice that have been fitted. Can imagine some great night running in that depot. The speed signs look awesome. Great details and details everywhere. All the best, Clint
Alison Lake you always get the odd troll/disgruntled/jealous person. I don’t mind. Every like or dislike helps my TH-cam ratings lol, so they’re helping me in a way. 😉
Frank Joosten yup agree. That’s what it is ALL about. Sadly some are only on TH-cam for themselves, sitting their preaching to the viewer! It’s all about sharing tips, ideas and ‘modelling secrets’ freely!... well for me it is :-) Dave
SteveS3667 cheers. Yeah I’m rather pleased with that scratch build, it’s been on the workbench since January, so happy it’s done. I learned a lot of new skills during the project too. Dave
Craigy Going Loco Model Railways Cheers. I enjoyed doing the interiors on today, even though the glazing is dirty and you hardly see it lol. Still, I know it’s there. :-) cheer. Dave
James Tailyour Cheers, glad you enjoy my detailing. I love adding the details to a scene :-) However if I get something inaccurate and it’s easy to change I will change it, if it’s not I just ignore it lol. Cheers. Dave
Excellent work Dave, you’re an inspiration to a novice modeller and TH-camr like myself, you set the bar very high and i hope as I get into the hobby I’ll aspire the level you achieve, cheers Dave, John
I really admire your skill when scratch building. Those buildings are unique and look great inside and out. Glad you do not get upset by the negative responses which I can only presume are from people jealous of your work. I would enjoy a step by step video showing how you go about making something like you did with the electrical ones.
Cheers. I wanted some unique pieces for the depot and I’m really happy I’ve managed to achieve good results. As for the negativity, ignore it. I know of people who criticize me behind my back and in the comments. The model railway youtube community is now sadly riddled with these fools. Jealousy?, sad?, arrogant?... maybe a mix of all three lol. I don’t care, I just model for me and for people who appreciate the effort that goes into what I do. Cheers. Dave
You have done a fantastic job Dave the northlight factory with the interior lights look nice the interior is good as well the new tunnel is great your a very inspiring modeler for people coming into the hobby great as always.
Exeter Central 00 gauge model railway By Nicholas many thanks. I’m really very pleased with the factory. From my imagination, to card mock up to final project, it’s been very rewarding to work on. Thanks for your great feedback :-) Dave
Great to see the factory finally completed, with the interior details and lighting. You've outdid yourself with that build, imo, it looks fantastic! It really sets off the entire depot area which is all looking just fantastic.
Soulstorm9000 Thanks. I’m really happy with it too. Lot of work in it! Along with my office block the warehouse has been the most challenging and rewarding scratch builds. Cheers. Dave
They say Dave that the Devil's in the detail, and my goodness, your attention to detail is out of this World, another inspiring upload that just leaves me feeling so inadequate, but very Happy...Bob

Fantastic update! Love the factory mate. Really love the look with the lights when it is in the dark 💡 Not seen a video for a while so it was nice to see your layout again 😎 Really like the way that area with the girder bridge and the Network Rail depot is developing 🤔

I will look forward to seeing you address the problems you hear about on RMWeb. I have 5 of them and I think they are superb. The sound is something else! Regards John
For the low relief factories, have you considered a picture of a warehouse interior stuck to the back wall, that would make it look like it extends further - with the window weathered, it may not need to be heavily detailed, just enough detail to give it a depth of field.
Neil Harbott hi, I searched for a decent image to match the factory type but never really settled on one I liked. Great idea tho. Will use that in future builds where the viewer gets a better view inside. Cheers. Dave
Dave all I can say is superb work ,cant for the life of me wonder why you get thumbs down anyway it’s their problem ,I’ve over the years followed and built models and layouts but the quality you show is to me Pendon standard and to have a loft up out of the way is a bonus ,me corner of the sitting room 😂😂take care and be safe ,Mark 👍🏻😊

Hi Dave, Super update as usual and the attention to detail you do reflects your title statement so a question for you one of the details you do not have on this one as far as I can see are tail lights on your trains now I would think this is a detail you would have is it a thing you are going to address later down the line (no pun intended) or is there some other reason for this?. If and when you do fit them and I am not sure if what I am about to say were in existence in your time period are the modern electric ones if they where then have you seen Peter Dixon's channel where he shows scale working ones which would be perfect for you and even if they were using the old oil ones a modeler of your skill could I am sure convert the many non working ones to the modern led ones using these kits that he shows of well if you already know of this I have only wasted a little of your time and I will let you carry on with the super work you do to help us all, but please keep safe and well. Cheers Robert.
Beautiful work Dave The advent of LED lighting must have been a real boon to the modelling world And been able to adjust the brightness with resisters can really give that sense of realism The detail I find you achieve is staggering Makes the tunnel made of rubber that formed a part of my train set of my youth seem somewhat lacking 😂 Thanks so much for shearing you’re Hobby with the likes of me Best wishes and kind regards Mike in the U.K.
HI Dave, were you ever tempted to place a reflective/mirror surface as the back wall in your low relief factory? I was wondering if it would instantly give it double depth? Anyway, great video. :)
SteveS3667 hi they are just woodland scenics fine leaf foliage, with a thin piece of wire dipped in glue and then sprinkled with purple foliage. I them attach to foliage using super glue Dave
Another great video and watching quality modeling like this keeps me going on my own layout. . What do you use for your retaining wall? Metcalf kits? Keep up the fantastic work mate.
Cheers. The station retaining walls are using scalescenes textured papers. The other retaining walls on the layout are built from plastic and mdf and are all scratch built by me.
Just in case we can see the back try putting a door in the back wall, It will make it look as if you can get in to the rest of the building, I hope this is some help Dave, This comment was for the factory build.
Dave, there is so much to see around your layout and as you have said you are driven by detail and that shows. I was watching very closely as the train travelled across the Diamond Crossing and there was not the slightest of movement from any of the wagons as I have so often seen on other layouts. How did you get them to run so smoothly across it? It is something that I have been putting a lot of thought into lately. In my design, I have only 3 crossovers and want to be able to achieve the same effect. Martin. (Thailand) (Hornby Crossovers)
Martin Pattison hi, thanks. I use Peco diamond crossings, while they are flawed in design (prone to wheels bridges the frogs and causing the occasional spark!) they do run well. I just take my time and make sure the tracks are all sitting at the same level etc. The smooth running was probably more luck than by design. 😆 cheers. Dave
Mark Collyer I’m guessing that, as this layout is designed to be filmed, it would ruin a video by reflecting the camera back when he tries to show off the interior
I am not a model railway fan,the scenic details are usually terrible, your design eye and skill is fantastic and you have taken the craft to a new level just stunning
You're driven by detail ? But still no rubber concertina covers for the passenger coach, inter-carriage gangways !!! When FINALLY SOMEONE decides to address that glaringly obvious omission to realistic detail, I willl consider that layout as authentic REALISM. Otherwise, these layouts remain - just toy train sets.
Deebz270 do you want to know how long my to do list is?.... I’ve a 25ft by 11ft layout that I’m building. Those coach Connections are no where near the top of the list. :-) Its a rather small Omission in the grand scheme of things and does not hold the balance between a layout being a model rail layout or a toy train set! I am driven by detail. The details I deem important take priority.
Absolutely love the detail of the tinnies workshop, that has clearly taken some proper thought or experience!
Hi, thanks. I just take my time, think it over and try different methods and options until I am happy. What brand is the smoke stack on your boiler building mate?
rodo88 Bachmann scenecraft... not currently in production but bachmann tends to re-release their buildings from time to time.
DaveClass47 Thanks for the reply!
Brilliant. Dave, where did you get the down pipes and the boxes on top of the down pipes on the Northlight Factory?
Very nice video! where did you get the brick plastic cards?
Galahad it’s south eastern finecast, just google it, a few places do it. They have a website too. Cheers. Dave
Hi just a question in you hard standing area how do you clean the rails cos any aggressive cleaning liquid will surely distort the paper top
Robert Dodd I do it very carefully!!! I use a cotton bud with track magic on it. Masking the hard standing with a piece of paper :-)
Also my hard standing is not paper topped its painted
HI Dave, were you ever tempted to place a reflective/mirror surface as the back wall in your low relief factory? I was wondering if it would instantly give it double depth? Anyway, great video. :)
RangersResults hi, thanks for that suggestion. I did test using reflective material, but the reflection caused the light to be took bright.
Great idea 👌
Hi Dave, quick question, where did you get your buddlea bushes from please mate? Thanks in advance :)

I'm surprised you don't use more mirrors inside buildings to add more depth when peeking in, or is there an obvious reason I've overlooked 🤔
Mark Collyer I’m guessing that, as this layout is designed to be filmed, it would ruin a video by reflecting the camera back when he tries to show off the interior
@@thomasthornton2002 Good thinking Batman 😀👍🏻 that never crossed my mind.
I am not a model railway fan,the scenic details are usually terrible, your design eye and skill is fantastic and you have taken the craft to a new level just stunning
Clive Durrant cheers Clive. That’s a very kind compliment indeed. Thanks for watching. Dave

A thumb down?
Guessing that's Charlie still salty that no matter how many subs he buys hes still not as popular as you Dave 😉
JAMES DEMU I just do my own thing, plus you’ll see trains running at Dean Park. Hope you enjoyed it. Dave
JAMES DEMU Aye, either that or that Cottesmore guy, they’re all as salty as each other. ‘Cliques R Us’
JAMES DEMU There’s 5 dislikes now, fiver says I could name them 👍🏼
Anyone that does not appreciate this should forget modelling and take up fishing!
What’s this salty stuff Dave
Deebz270 Go on the Deebz, show us your layout then.......
