    Very nice storage options. Laying them out in the world next to the storage is a great idea and can be used right away. I really like this one.

    Soooo good. Been searching forever to find ways to do central storage but most TH-cam videos just give a blueprint instead of teaching how it works. Awesome video!

    Double the throughput! After unlocking steel tiers you can double the throughput by using Industrial Storage Containers and running two belts out of the truck/train station. Each belt will be a copy of the other with the same smart splitters and one belt for each top and bottom input on the container. Just make sure to add a second Awesome Sink as well!

      Great comment! That’s exactly what ai and to do with my setup. I have the industrial storage but I was having an issue with sorting them with my smart splitters. He showed the solution in his video but he didn’t show how to do the second line but I think you gave me the idea on how to do it.

    very nice tutorial! I actually spent many hours getting my waterfall display system to always cycle even after the container is full. takes a lot of room and several smart splitters

    • @Dekoba
      @Dekoba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds impressive though. I though about doing a lift that doesnt connect to the container and just contains the correct item and cycles continuously, but i like the idea of it responding to my action, it feels better.

      @@Dekoba yeah so I can try to describe it, after the splitter that decides the item, it goes into another smart splitter with any item so it can be used in a blueprint. main output continues, overflow goes into the storage. then it goes into a merger (we will come back here) after that it goes through the waterfall. after that it goes into another smart splitter, which tries to force all the product back to the merger before the waterfall. the overflow for that splitter goes into another smart splitter that tries to send the product back into the containers second input, and overflows back to the main bus, to be sunk.

    I did this 2 years ago and i added a few things: a dedicated drop off box for dumping inventory, 2 large "lost and found" containers for anything that cannot be sorted and some constructors to take care of leaves, wood and flowers. However, I did not connect it to any of the production. But i had a 3rd large container connected to a sink to free up my "lost and found" boxes.
    Funny how many times i fished out equipment that i dropped by accident.

    • @sneezyfido
      @sneezyfido 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had a literal inventory dump box for everything I couldn't be bothered to sort back into containers.
      Leaves, wood, fungus, nuts etc, powerslugs and whatnot got sorted out, then the remainder got sunk.
      Maybe I should set up a safety for equipment next run. Good idea!

    For the item display, what I typically do is remove the foundation in front of the container outlet and then place it one meter lowered. Then, I build a belt from the outlet to at most 4 meters away from the container on the lower foundation. Then, I remove the foundation and the conveyor pole and place the foundation back one meter upwards. It now looks like the items flow out the container straight onto the ground, and they dont float at the front of the belt.
    Very nice video!

    I didn't realize overflow worked to send other items along the belt, that makes setting this up much easier. What I have been doing is splitting off what I want to the side and then to go forward, I have Any Undefined. But then on the belt going to the container, I had to add another smart splitter with an overflow that looped back to a merger on the main belt. An Awesome Sink sits at the end of the main belt. I put the splitters above the walking area so I can have 2 sets of containers facing each other, so you have both sides of the aisle to pick from.
    I use the first container on one side as a trash drop off. Anything in that container goes right into a sink. I use the first container on the other side to dump off anything to get recycled and sorted back into containers. Before sorting into containers, I send them through an adjacent building to be pre-processed. I convert leaves and wood into biofuel, slugs into shards, flowers to color cartridges, remains into animal protein and even grab some other items to build all my weapon ammo. Then all these items go back to the main sorting line to be put in containers.

    Awesome ideas! I started playing recently but stopped because I don’t want to get burned out before 1.0. Can’t wait to put these ideas into practice. One question, when you u lock the double high storage can you overwrite a one story storage with it like you can overwrite an older belt with a newer version?

    • @Dekoba
      @Dekoba  17 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Not right now, but I know that is a feature request for 1.0 no idea if they will do it or not though.

  • @ForsakenFenix

    ok on my layout it's 2 Mergers - 2 Smart Splitters - Industial Container
    The Smart Splitters are set "Overflow" to the Merger, "Any Undefined" down the center, to the next Splitter, and the Container side the Item I what in that container.
    "Any defined" will go into a container at the end of the line, to keep things from jamming up the Sinks.

    Great video, quick question, do you fabricate items for your storage from scratch (so whole miner output is focused only for storage purposes ) or just overclocking your factories and getting leftovers from there?

  • @shaun3423
    @shaun3423 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Had you shifted the Smart Splitters over you would have not needed the curves. Also adding another storage container below the other one would double your storage and remove the need for another curve. Good for a first setup though. Steel gives you access to the industrial container removing the need for a second input line.

    • @andy_byrd
      @andy_byrd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Industrial containers SHOULD use another line in order to double the throughput out of the station. Two maxed belts vs just one.

    Great video!! … one question I have always had about trucks and truck stations is ..can a truck stop at multiple truck stations?…
    For example, drop off parts at one station and on the way back stop at another one to pick up coal for fuel before carrying on with its circuit.?

    • @Dekoba
      @Dekoba  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! And you can do multiple pickups before dropping off, as long as there is space.

    • @Razman23
      @Razman23 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Don't use those tiny trucks that you sit on the back, use the large ones. The more you can carry per run improves your through put.

    The presentation of this video is very good. I particularly like your use of in-game signs and road markers. However, the audio could be improved. It sounds like you're too close to the mic, have the gain up too high, and/or are missing a pop filter. It makes your voice a little bit distorted.

  • @josh5231

    I would say this is the most basic smart sorting storage system. It works ok in the early game as a mall, but quickly bottlenecks once you start dealing with larger volumes. For example, consider screws. Each stack is 500 units, even with an mk4 belt it would take over a minute to sort 1 stack. So if your bringing it in by the truck load, well you can do math. 😅 For me, its just not worth it.

    • @Dekoba
      @Dekoba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thats more of an organization issue. Why would you bring in screws by the truckload? For the purpose of a mall, you'd only need screws for making the handful of equipment and builds that use them, so a single constructor making 20/min or so will FAR exceed your demand for them. even early game belts can handle that volume.

    • @josh5231
      @josh5231 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Dekoba Agreed, screws are an extreme example. But as you show item being delivered by truck, I figured it was a good example to illustrate its limits and get people considering throughput and time needed to sort. I ment no offense with that comment, and I'm very supportive of anyone making content for this amazing game.

    • @Dekoba
      @Dekoba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, it's an important consideration. When i build one of these in my world I keep a list of its inputs so I don't overdo it

    Since there is a third output direction on the splitters, is there a benefit to a single row of storage containers like this vs a shorter double row? Or as a way to expand later without fully restructuring?

    • @marcbennett9232
      @marcbennett9232 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it depends on how much space you have and how you want to set up your logistics. the double row would use fewer smart splitters. ive also had a single row but used the second output to fill containers on a second floor. ive also seen people have a sink for each item but that seems excessive to me lol.

    • @sneezyfido
      @sneezyfido 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With an elevator you could also send opposite side edit up to a container on top of the first layer.
      With smart design you could have upstairs and downstairs laps for stuff that you often pick up together, e.g. materials for structural work vs materials used in machinery.
      Heck, for double dips you could use an industrial container to make it accessible on both laps.
      Or put up a walkway at about half height from the bottom layer, so you can easily reach top and bottom.

    Do you plan on building seperate storage systems in different parts of the map or will you expand this one? Because i don´t really see the potential to expand this one - apart from vertically but that seems quite challenging...
    Discoverd your channel yesterday and I really like your style of editing!

    • @Dekoba
      @Dekoba  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the kind words! I plan to expand this base around the nearby lake as needed, my next expansion to this location will involve tearing down the wall where I had put the build plan and setting up additional truck stations and storage there.
      Once I unlock trains, I will start a new, more central location, as at that point Ill need to work across a lot more of the map, and this storage system will feed into a train station to help supply that.

  • @xScarwolf
    @xScarwolf 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I already have Mk4 Belts, but still, its emptying my Train Freight Platforms too slow. Can you do a video on how to best organise those multiple sorting systems you talk about?

    • @Razman23
      @Razman23 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You are pushing too much crap onto those belts. Either remove some trains or shut down some of your production. Even if you run one 'mall' per train freight section and you unload too much for the belt, it will still back log.

  • @PPSFerfax

    This could be a dedicated server issue but this doesn't work as its intended. I've built this style and it will let things slip through and sent to the sink. The fix I found, was you have a second smart splitter that is set for overflower after the storing splitter. We found the main loop needs to drop back at the start.

    • @andy_byrd
      @andy_byrd 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a dedicated server thing. I've ran into similar issues and found bug reports on the QA site. At the end of the day it's just a little bit slower to fill your storage containers but the same amount going to the sink once full.
