The thing is worth every penny. I got it at launch and it’s the most used tool I own. I also feel like I’m slumming it when I have to use a regular screw driver now which is the only downside to owning one.
Great content, I love this old hardwares so much, it's a shame that here in Brazil is so expensive, I really want to build a pentium III socket 1 like my first PC
I don’t know the used market in Brazil’s but maybe keep an eye out at thrift/antique stores. Or join a vintage group and find someone traveling to Brazil. That would save on the import taxes.
Everybody makes their own rules. I wouldn't use a Gbit NIC in such a build because that's not how it was back then - we're talking Millennium era stuff here. I tend to build around period correctness. The base system from, let's say 1997/8: I keep the graphics card from that year as replacement and put a videocard from 1-2 years later later in. Heck, I even use PSUs and Hard Drives from the respective time periods of my systems. That's how I would have done it back then - I kept my PCs usually around 5 - 6 years. And usually I upgraded the CPU, RAM and Videocard once.
I’m like that in some ways but the cards I get are new old stock from about 2000 give or take a year and they’re dirt cheap. The CD that comes with it has windows ME drivers if I recall.
Just stumbled across your page, but love to hear you talk about the specs on that motherboard. Restoring old PC’s is such a rewarding task 😀
When stuff works yes, otherwise it’s usually lost sleep lol
Congratulations you got a subscriber !!!

@LinusTechTips should honor you for the awesome and free advertising for their (also awesome) screwdriver

I'm more likely to build new hardware into an old case.
The case did come out one month after the PIII was discontinued so this is totally within the realm of possible builds for its time.
nice job! brings back memories.
That’s the whole purpose of the channel as far as I’m concerned lol. Thanks!
