Surviving Cashless China: How to use WeChat Pay, one of Chinese mobile payments services

Shenzhen-based Tencent plans to change that by letting foreign users link their credit or debit cards issued by Visa and other major international operators from July, said Royal Chen Qiru, vice-president of Tencent Financial Technology, at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions on Wednesday.

I am now in china and be frustrated. I cannot set up wechat pay with my visa card and almost nobody wants to take my cards or cash.
This is some serious problem, because it will hit every foreigner coming short time.

Did you sort your problem out? Is it WeChat or Alipay for basic small item supermarket type purchases? I am about to travel there for the first time and my concern was customer service if these apps don't work, how do you sort the problem out if one doesn't speak any Chinese?
