  • This Cat C was mental- so turns out one of the guys off the front averaged 4w/kg and also didnt have an HR so wasnt on Zwift Power but was on Zwift results. Seems like he might have not been too accurate with his details.

    You need to race with a heart race on Zwift Power- why not get the best, complete with ECG.

    Always interesting to get your take on these races and your commentary on the difference between C and B. This particular race was messy, as you say but fun to watch! 😂

      Just cleaning out my comp so i can race it again later this week in a Cat B and see the difference.

    Crazy race indeed! That usually happens when there are different terrain.... Tough to pick the right bike in this case.

      I still dont think anyone knows what bike to use- have you done it yet?

    Big group on this course: roadbike any day. Draft is king here. You have to push harder on the climb, but the downhill is free :) Also the tarmac bit after the downhill has some sections that go up with 4%, that will really set you back if you are running a gravel rig.

      Im going to give it a go in Cat B at the end of the week in a smaller group race and ride on a road bike again- will see how it goes

      Yep, I agree, I rode this on Tuesday evening with a road bike, and I took the win, just barely btw. The dirt is tough and you need to push hard to keep in with the group but if you can then you've got a big advantage on the tarmac. My plan was to drill it up the climb each time, work extra hard on it, knowing that the pace would drop on the downhill and I'd have time to recover plus heavier riders would suffer and so it would break up the pack.

      Ha i tried this in a race and people started hammering the downhill and it killed me... lol

    These races are awesome. Always great effort.
    The guy that won has not HR monitor. So you know he is weight dopping. 🤔

      I definintely think he affected the race because it meant someone could ride with him and hold the front lead, still a lot of fun

    From doing only a few C rides/races. This pace is more of a B race, I've done 1 B race - need to ride for those.

    2nd try today and got 2nd. Again used a gravel bike but kept a low profile till the last round. Did a less as I possible could to stay with the group. On the 3rd and 4th lap I went a bit faster on the downhill after the climb to make the roadbikes work for it a little so they would hopefully need a rest at the tarmac. That worked pretty well and went for it at the last climb. We broke away with another gravelbikes and two roadbikes we could not drop. One of those was just unbeatable in the sprint with my gravelbike but 2nd is fine with me.

      Nice, thats so interesting. I think im going to stick with a road bike and just have to work the hill a bit harder...

      @@thewattlife The hard part is that you do not know what bike the others are taking and have to look in the race itself what they got. probably going to try a roadbike later this week also to see if that takes me to the win.

  • @ptp1969

    I was one of the three in front from the start, but also the one dropping first. I did use the gravel bike but could not keep the pace of the other two and dropped way down. Dont have the stamina to keep that up for 5 laps.

      So i saw on Zwift rankings that the winner out front held 4 w/kg and no HR monitor so wasnt featured in the Zwift Power rankings. I think he might have been the one pulling the race forward at times but hard so say... Still a very fun one.

    • @ptp1969
      @ptp1969 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thewattlife It was certainly a fun one. But without the one winning it would have gone totally different, since the other guy would have had a much harder time staying in front all alone. They should just dsq people at the start of the race who are not wairing a HRM.

    • @thewattlife
      @thewattlife  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Totally agree- if someone wasnt out front without a HR and pulling 4 w/kg the whole race then i dont think a solo effort would have held when he was only puttin gout 3.1w/kg. Anyway, onto the next one

  • @ptp1969
    @ptp1969 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Its a normal race when everyone has a roadbikes but when there are gravel bikes it goes nuts and ends up what we saw today. Roadbikes need to push the dirt to not lose too much and have to chase on the tarmac to gain the lost time. And gravel bike have that vice versa

    • @thewattlife
      @thewattlife  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So what bike do you think is best for this?

    • @ptp1969
      @ptp1969 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@thewattlife Hard one, and differs from rider to rider I guess. I you are at the top of C cat and can hold those watts for the whole 20km I would say the gravel bike is the best option since I think you gain more on the gravel than you lose on the tarmac. This will certainly work if two or more very strong riders take off and can draft eachother on tarmac. For all others I think a roadbike is the better choice since the blob on the tarmac gives them more advantage to draft and gain speed together. But I do believe most races this week will end in carnage.

      @@thewattlife Porbably going to give it another try this week. Might go for a best of both worlds with the Canyon Aeroad 2021 or the Scott Addict RC with the DT Swiss 62 wheels.

      Im going again this week and will def keep my set up similar, probably swap out a wheel set but i think its a bit of a muchness and not a huge amount of difference on that course
