- A war of words is escalating over a tree. Not just any old tree - the so-called rope swing tree on Lake Eloise. It has been there for as far back as anyone can remember.
Someone cut the branch that held the rope, and now the landowner says threats are rolling in.

A bit dramatic. What amazes me is their insistence on blaming the homeowners. It looks like any vandals could have done it- the branch looked broken, not cut. But that was a quick glance. Idk.
Yes it has. We are at our wits end. This is just such a tragedy. Unbelieveable. What an outrage. Just insane that this horrific occuerence has happened. Wow this is how the WHOLE community feels right now. Just still cant belive this has happened. alot of us may need to seek counseling. we may have to set up a go fund page on this onte to help these people affected by this horrible act.

Transplants come here & think they can do what they want. Others who are natives try to defend their behavior. I remember that swing very well. But I remember taking on these issues on beaches woods all over Florida. Just because you build a home does not mean you own all trees water be it fresh salt so not sure of the mindset but it needs to STOP

Are we sure the branch didn't just break? It wasn't cut smooth. Years of people swinging on it could have caused it to break. Branches fall out of trees naturally too.

I agree with you 100%. But from my own personal experience most folks that are angry, mean and hurtful are lonely as well. Have you ever heard someone say hurt people hurt? I'm sure you have because you are intuitive Jessica. People that are gruff on the outside Will sometimes surprise You and be Good people on the inside. If it is on private property they have nothing to stand on. Why doesn't the community see if they can buy that portion? You know if anyone gets hurt there they will sue the property owners.

In a way, I can understand the homeowner's issue, it probably has a ton of screaming, laughing, kids all day every day in the summer months. I wouldn't want to hear it either, but these people looked at that property, they had to have seen it, so why did they buy that house? There are a million other homes, quiet and peaceful. Don't buy a house on a popular lake and not expect noise

Oh well, life's a biotch and then you get on the rope swing and everything is all better. 65 years ago on the Myakka River at Snook Haven there used to be a rope swing we all used as kids. It was left after the production of a Tarzan Movie filmed there in the 30's. People came from as far away as Arcadia to watch them film. A good time was had by all!

At my lake their was a grapevine. They cut it. Then a rope . Cut the rope. Then a steel cable with handle bars. They cut the tree down. Bastards...
Real estate law would state the owner owns the land up to the water line. The tree looks to be in the water. Seems to me to be illegal and overstepping their rights. You also cant stop people if the water is navigable by boat which it is.
