- Rocky Marciano vs Archie Moore
-
Rocky Marciano defends the Heavyweight Championship of the World against Archie Moore. Archie had thrown challenges to both Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe Walcott without getting a shot at the title. This time he would not let the champion get away and therefore claimed Marciano was evading him before he had ever made a challenge to him. This would be the last fight in Rocky's career. He would retire undefeated the following year, being the only champion ever to have won all of his fights. Archie would fight on, until finally retiring in 1963 at age 49 (or something close).

Their records at the time
Rocky Marciano: 48-0
Archie Moore: 148-19-9 - กีฬา
Moore had wits, composer, and a set of brass on him. His defense was great. Watching him rocked and weaving through rocks punches until he was throwing sharp and accurate shots to back into his face. Just incredible fortitude. Now that's a pair of champions.
rocky was teeing off on him in the 6th! moore def had heart
Salvatore
I'm not sure, but Rocky might have thrown about 100 punches in round 6
@Whammer79 yea, I attempted to count the number of punches he threw in the 6th, and I came up with 108! 29 to get the 1st KD, then 71 more to get the 2nd KD.
I seriously got chills watching the rock go in the 6th, what a legend, If he isn't the greatest hw of all time, It would have to be james jefferies, or dempsey, people just try to fight reason no matter what, and not give them their dues. c'mon
Excellent
Ninety percent of today's referees would have stopped the fight in the sixth round.
Maybe but all SPORTS EVOLVED...with his nose split he just did it and won
Marciano's greatness was his heart, and his unique boxing philosophy of exchanging blows toe to toe and absorb pain until there was only one fighter left standing. But watch closely and you'll see all his opponents got tricked by his 'clumsy' style and he drew them in for the kill.
I think his smaller upper body allowed him to alternate between right and left hand punches much more quickly than his opponents which allowed him to beat them to the punch. Combine this with the power he generated from his incredibly strong legs and he was lethal.
@XavierMarciano Great comment.
Archie Moore: "Fighting Rocky was like fighting an airplane propeller."
Archie Moore said every one of Rocky's punches felt like a being hit with a blackjack or a truck full of rocks
I think Ali had better conditioning because of his dancing, but yeah.
The Rock was the best conditioned fighter of all time! Ali?...no!!
BECAUSE a man danced his CONDITIONING .....is better....man not even gonna try to debate this air head
@freedumnevafree you're welcome :D
@TA152H01
I agree. One of the best boxers? Not by a long shot. One of the better fighters? Maybe (I like to think so, for his heart/chin/punch alone if nothing else). One of my favorites? Without a doubt!
The announcer makes me sick....Archie this,Archie that...ROCKY Klitshkos,Jim Jeffries,Jack Dempsey Rooberto Duran,Alexis Arguello...real men
THE GUY CALLING THE FIGHT, DIDN'T KNOW ASS FROM HIS
ELBOW
Marciano very overrated fought fighters waay past their prime.
