The first thing that strikes me about the champ Rocky Marciano is how humble , mild mannered and respectful he seems,....no badmouthing his opponent, no ko predictions, .......not like the abusive, disrespectful anarchy and antics the modern day fighters get up to,.......it reflects the decline in modern day standards and behaviour..........Rocky was not only a great unbeaten champ in the ring,...but one outside it as well.

@@pauloskidane2819 From what's been said Moore struggled often to make light heavyweight. Unless I'm mistaken they both weighed 188 lbs when they fought. The discrepancy was in age not size

@studentofsweetscience What are you talking about?
Not the way they use the ring or their guards.
When Ali stops and stands his ground, sinks on those punches, the way he times and paces his combinations is nearly identical to Moore.
Archie trained him early in his career, so I don't think it's a coincidence.

There was quite a few fighters who gained extra respect for Rocky after fighting him,....people judged him by his crude skills , and awkward ,almost primitive fighting style,...but one thing this guy possessed in spades, was raw power, bonecrunching sapping power,....boxers like Archie Moore, Jersey joe Walcott and even the great joe Louis , all trashed the challenge Marciano posed in the preflight boasts.......but all 3 great fighters succumbed to Rocky by knockout,...after tough , bruising encounters,...and all 3 we're never quite the fighters they once were after losing to Rocky.....

it's all financial. when the Irish were dirt poor and spit on, it was the Irish, then it was Italians, then the blacks (when the Irish and Italians had made it to Police Chief, alderman, mayor and didn't want to sweat and get hit anymore). Then, after the end of the Cold War came tough Russians. They had tough fighters in Great Britain back in the old days - but I bet they came from tough backgrounds over there.

MARCIANO WAS A GREAT FITGHER. THE BEST OF HIS ERA BUT ALI IN HIS PRIME WOULD BEAT HIM FOR SURE.ALI WAS TOO FAST FOR HIM.AND THE LEG MOVEMENT WAS WAY TOO SUPERIOR ROCKY EVER FACE.NO DOUBT ROCKY IS IN THE TOP TEN HEAVYWEIGHTS OF ALL TIME.THATS FOR SURE.BUT ALI WAS ANOTHER THING FROM ANOTHER PLANET.HE FACED THE BIG HUGE GUYS LIKE FOREMAN AND LILE.HE BEAT THE DINOSAURS.
