  • Starting point low tide 13:25 at South View, Fatfield end point Roker Beach, Sunderland at 16:55. Roughly 7.5 miles mostly against the tide. Some exercise ;)

@frankg8983 I live in Washington Tyne Wear, I often walk along the river with my dogs it was good seeing the places you passed. Also been thinking lately about taking up paddle boarding that's how I came across your video mate lol

I might be getting this properly wrong but is it not better to set off in fatfield after high tide so the current takes you down stream?

Yeah it would be better or easier I guess but where is the fun in that 😜 but yeah it should work

Do you have to plan all this with googling the tide etc. I’ve just bought a paddlebaord and it’s all new to me I feel like I’d go the wrong time and get swept away 😂

No, it’s not that bad just more work. I’ve been a few times and the tide was always against my time schedule 😂

What was the water like? I live in Washington and was thinking of doing this route but the water does not look very clean in places.
    Might do it today

It depends on the tide. My first time on this route the river wasn’t very clean around Washington area but this time it was surprisingly clean.
Do it definitely! It’s a great exercise 👌

Just done it at low tide. It was very shallow. The first half was easy until the tide turned then it was brutal. Will do it again at high tide cheers

I'm planning on doing fatfield to South hylton this week. The time we are doing it the tide will be coming in for 2 hours. Will we struggle 2 blokes in the same kayak?

That should be fine you may feel the tide around half way but nothing too bad specially with kayak. The hardest part usually starts between the two ships but that’s where you guys will exit. Enjoy it 👍
