I love you Jackson! Thx! I have 4 litterboxes (I have 4 cats), but I only use 2 of them. They are beside each other in the same room in the same corner. I also deoderize the heck out them. Thank you so much for the advice! Now I use all 4 litterboxes and they are all in different places around the house! Thank you so much!
So happy I found you, my problem is neighbors cats always use the little garden spot to the side of my door as a bathroom. It stinks when I open my door, I am tempted to feed them something that would make them sleep forever, but I am afraid to have to answer to God for it. I tried spraying vinegar, but they still come back, is there anything I can do to stop them from pooping at my door.
I'm laughing at the comment about cat privacy. My cat has his primary litter box next to the human toilet. In the morning he will quite often join me sitting in the bathroom with both of us doing business!
+Helen Gibbs My previous kitty used to accompany me to the bathroom; and the cat I have now does too, but only when she has to go. My boyfriend closes the door when he is in there all the way, so she can't go in. So if she has to go and he is in there, she lets him know his faux pa(w)s by going AT the doorway. LOL I keep telling him to leave it open just a little so she can squeeze in if she needs to!!!
+Helen Gibbs Lol one of my cats would do that. The cat when I was a child his box was on the balcony. Door always kept open. Needless to say after accidentally jumping off trying to get a bird the cat wouldn't go out there. So moved it inside between the kitchen and dining room. During my birthday party and cake eating time he decided to poop in the box and to say the smell was horrible was an understatement. Now it is hilarious, not so much at the time.
I have four cats and have never had one mistake anywhere. They all use their boxes with no problems. It amazes me how many people have trouble with this issue. Last year I took in a pregnant stray and raised her kittens until they found homes. I used puppy pads with the kittens for a couple weeks but besides that, no one ever peed outside of the boxes. I can't be lucky enough to have all the amazing cats in my household. I think the problem is exactly what Jackson is talking about. If they are content and happy, they are not going to upset you by peeing all over. I keep enough boxes and keep them clean enough that my cats have no problems using them. It's funny because my biggest male always uses 1 box that no one else will use. Then there is a boy & girl who always share a box. So weird... but it works
My late cat had two litter boxes. It was really funny, because he used one to defecate in, and the other for urine. There would occasionally be crossover, but for the most part he stayed consistent.
Lol! Yeah I'm definitely not putting a litterbox where we eat sleep or hang out mostly. My cat hates being around strangers. He was feral when he waltzed in our apartment as a kitten. He would shit everywhere except his litterbox, so finally my bf put it in bathroom. For his privacy. He's never gone anywhere else but the box since. Problem we have now is he gets litter EVERYWHERE lol
@@AmyCCloverlanez I adore my cats but little flecks of litter between my bare feet & the bathroom tile (or hell, ANY surface lol) is the bane of my existence!! What I wouldn't give for someone to invent magic litter that wont leave the box 😂
Two of our cats do not like to be watched when they use the litter box. They will stop and stare at you until you leave the area, then they'll do their business. They want the light off, too. Our third kitty (the youngest) likes to wait until I am cleaning the boxes to do his biggest, messiest job of the day. I have to stop mid-scoop, wait until he is finished, then he will stand there until I scoop it all out. I have long since stopped trying to figure it all out. I just do what they've trained me to do and peace reigneth.
I have multiple cats/multiple boxes and immediately after I scoop each box my oldest goes to EACH box and deposits a little something. Like she saves a little to hit EVERY BOX......LOL.....she just likes to keep me busy.......lol
Try scooping daily and your box or boxes will stay cleaner longer, my cat taught me honestly, she tells me when she goes and I’ll scoop it! I do save money this way too, I just scoop once or twice a day( only takes a moment ) the litter stays cleaner longer and when it gets low I add fresh! Another plus is the box stays clean everyday and your fur baby will thank you for that. 😻
The moment I brought a litter box to my kitten, she immediately knew what to do with it. It was like instinct. She's never had potty problems ever since. And she was only 4 months old. Now she's 5 years old. c:
Our bathroom is literally in the center of our apartment, so our little Kitana share our bathroom, since it's the natural place for it. Funny thing is, that one weekend we forgot about her litterbox, so it was full, (REALLY FULL), and she had done her business next to the box, but then she found the toilet paper and placed a large wad of it, over her mess... Having observed us, go to the bathroom, she has apparently connected poop and toiletpaper. She never plays with the toilet paper, and it was pretty specifically placed, so it wasn't a fluke :-P
+Frank R. Haugen My late cat Morris was not trained to a litter box when I got him cause he was born in the forest and rescued. So he went outside to poop in pine needles,, but otherwise preferred being inside with the family when he adopted me. Once during a family emergency his access to the outside (window) was closed and I feared a big mess when I returned from hospital. He apparently figured out to pee in bathtub drain AND left his poop on top of drain. Since then, with teens running in a out, if he ever had his outdoor access blocked he went in the tub very neatly. If not for the poop you'd never know he went and my tub was spotless as a rule. Best cat ever. Never meowed either or made a sound you could call a meow. Had 7-8 toes on his paws. When I moved, neighbors complained about their flowers, so I had to train him to a little box. No training needed. He immediately did his business and never had accidents till the last week of his life. Neighbors problem wasn't the cat...it was the squirrels.
so I've never had any experience owning a cat before, and prior to adopting my first cat, I did at least 4 months of research prior and your videos was a vital resource for me. I followed everything you have said, I did not get an enclosed litter box, I got the regular cheaper litter boxes that are not enclosed for my cat, and he has been doing very well, He loves me very much, he definitely has adjusted very well to my apartment. However, im pretty busy, im a full time student and on top of that im working 30 hours a week. I just filled out an application to adopt another cat, that way they will have each other while im gone and my cat wont so lonely while im gone and they entertain each other when I am unable to. Your videos have taught me a significant amount, it has helped me a lot.
Your wonderful for being considerate of the Cat as a person, I love your getting the cat a companion because of your thirty hour work week. Unfortunately, during my working years it never occurred to me the misery of loneliness I was putting the pet through but now years later I realize in my own loneliness without any pet to keep me company and home all day because retired,...So, I realize any person, cat or dog, is suffering to be alone all day, especially the 40/hours while I'm at work.. I did leave the radio on for the dog that I had, but I could not afford to have 2/dogs nor would my landlord have allowed. However, many people who desperately need a pet companion as I did but, also have to work also share my circumstance of not being able to have two pets. At least we provide a home for a pet who otherwise would be in a animal shelter or euthanized. And of course when I got home from work and on the weekends I dedicated all my time to my dog, wherever I went I took him with me. I hoped this compensated in some degree for his 40/hours during the week of having to be totally alone. WOW! That really sounds horrible. Nevertheless, the dog lived 20/years and we were Soulmates and he adored me as I did him, he loved me with every cell of his being till the very last moment of his 20/year old life. I'm retired now so no pet that I have as to endure being totally alone again for long hours.
I was told by a vet that removing the lid from your cat box is a good idea if your cat doesn't like using the box. It really helped a friend of mine. As the vet explained, it's not normal or nice for a cat to be isolated in a box. And my cats definitely prefer the openness and will go when I'm there or when I'm not. That, I think, is a good sign.
Gonna try this. My cat was doing fine using it. Then, he started complaining a bit. I think he may have out grown it so that's where I'm going to start.
@@BOG0690 i think for most cats covered box are like us using those portable toilets at festivals - stinks (poor ventilation) and its difficult to move around. Imagine if we additionally had to bury our stuff xD
About 8 years ago my cat decided she wasn't using litter anymore. You name the litter, we tried it. It was driving us nuts trying to figure out why she decided to use the bathmat as her toilet. The solution was pee pads in the box. I'm so grateful the vet recommended using them.
I keep my cats box close to my bathroom, sometimes I'll look out at he's box and we're both using the bathroom at the same time. Always makes me laugh when he turns around so he doesn't have to look at me while doing his business.
Caleb Drake lol my cat does the same but heaven forbid I try to talk to them if there in the litter box but it’s ok for them to walk on me An pop out of the bathtub lol
When my dad was alive, we had one box in the laundry room off the living room. My cat would doo her business, then meow at my dad to let him know to clean up after her. 😆
haha my cat does the same thing xD he poops and then MEEOOW MEEEOOOOOOOOOW and I'm like yesssss I know, I'll clean up. If I don't, he comes up to me, looks me in the eyes and goes: mrrreow. Then he goes to the box, looks at me and again: mrrreow. Then he sits there waiting for me to clean it up, and once I'm finished he takes a sniff and then "ok" and goes back to his business. xD
Thanks Jackson. We have four cats but they can go out to pee and poop. We are moving soon and will need to keep them indoors. This will ensure we have no problems initially!
Will my second cat only use his own litter box, or just use any other, even if it smells of other cat? How to place it during initial meeting, when they switch the rooms? Surely I shouldn´t move new litter box along with the cat. I am still puzzled with bringing a new cat to our home, we only had one, as far as I remember.
deniseg812 One of the things I learned from Jackson was to leave my cat alone. In the beginning, when I would put a hand towards her, try to pick her up, pet her, stop her from doing something, force her ect. Those actions caused her to bite, claw, hiss and attack. Play with your cats together and individually. Let them come to you and be calm. Recognize their body language, ears flat, pupils wide ect. If they latch on, don't pull away, push your appendage gently towards them. You pull and they'll hang on forever. My cat Ten, used to be the epitome of a Cat from Hell. Now, she is my sweet lap warmer. Just be patient, as they say Keep Calm and Cat On :-)
I have 2 cats and 4 boxes. One of them used to pee everywhere until i increased the amount of litterboxes to 4. They are in every room in the house. My cats are the most important thing in my life and my house if their house. We live here together and i do anything for them to make them comfortable. They will spend their lives indoors and i will make sure they are happy. I do not care about what others might think of a litterbox in my living room. I have a responsibility to my precious girls and they trust me with their lives and happiness. And i will not let them down. My house is a Kitty Sanctuary, because a happy kitty makes me happy
My daughters 2 cats shitting, peeing and puking all over the apartment. Will she look after them? No. Its up to me an I DON'T LIKE THE LITTLE BASTARDS. A litterbox in every room? Jesus.
What part of "My daughter's cats" don't you get? And I do take care of them when she's too lazy, but no, not a cat-toilet in every room, even a "clean one" is ugly and smelly at the least, and very unhygienic. When the cat box in the spare bathroom is kept clean the cats use it without problem.
I just wanted to add that a lot of cats have PTSD type reactions to any litter boxes with lids because of trauma with cat carriers. They develop a sort of claustrophobia. This was the case with my kitty, and we had to completely remove the lid and leave the box in the openness of the living room in order for her to use it consistently. A lot of people don't realize that closing up the box like that, or putting inside of decorative cabinets, can make also make the cat feel like it's trapped and can't escape.
Oh wow. That is a really good point. I never thought of that. It is actually good info. I don't use lids on my cat's boxes because it would just be more of a nuisance when cleaning, but this is good "outside the box" thinking. Haha.
Kait! I totally agree! I know if I were a cat I would not want to use a litter box with a hood on it and probably often would not, hence, the owner would think me misbehaving when it's really the owner's fault.
My cat likes to sleep in his cat carrier even tho I transported him in it not only to the vet but also to another city. No fear or trauma at all. He is allowed to sit and sleep anywhere around the house but still uses carrier as a night bedroom even tho he’s got his own cat ottoman and bed
My cat won't use a litter box if he can see me while he goes. He does prefer to go in the room I'm in, but the box, which is enclosed, can't be facing me. The one in my room was facing my bed and he didn't use it for two months. He went to the living room. I turned it sideways and now he uses it all the time. Keep in mind that cats, like people, have personalities and like people it's hard to generalize them.
Kyle Rak'Zeroth right? I have 2 cats. my girl will leave the bathroom if you're in there or go in there while she's using the litter box. We ended up moving one of the boxes to a corner in the garage because she kept going there. Meanwhile my boy will follow me into the bathroom and likes going while I go. Lol
Lathy Loon my friend's cat will wait until he gets home to go. I don't know if he thinks he's doing him a favor or if he does it out of spite. he's a very unusual cat. He's probably one of the smartest cats I've met so even though it's unlikely he possesses the thought process capable of spiteful pooping, I'm not ruling it out.
I always use the smallest bathroom in the apartment, the only thing in there is a sink, a toilet and the litter box. For some reason every time I go to the bathroom it takes like two seconds and my cat is outside screaming to come inside and pee at the same time as me. The fun part though is that she sits with her face one centimeter from my leg, but she refuses to look me in the eyes. Cats are such weird animals.
when i go to pick up my cat's poop from the litter box, he comes and starts covering it again as in telling me "Why do you uncover my poop hooman!?!? It's supposed to be under the ground!! STAHP!" he never does his thing outside of the litter box, the box is in the bathroom, it's esiest to clean it while it's there. He often watches me drop his poops in the toilet and pops his head on top of the toilet to watch the poop get flushed. I bet he's wondering why did i uncover his poop and threw it in the thing with the water that goes "Flushhhhhhhhhhhh" while the poop vanishes. He's a saint. I
Even my 9 week old kittens get irritated when I clean their litter box. They get confused and shout a lot, when I dig out their poop, that they spent a lot of time to cover up. Guess what? Now they don't cover it some time. They just poop, and then start meowing at me, to clean it up.
I have seen two of my cats use the same litter box at the same time. And it's a covered one. There was no drama, the cat in the back just patiently waited for the cat in the front to finish, and then they both walked out. I have more than one litter box, and my cats use both, but this one is the favorite.
I'm so glad I found your site. I used to watch your show when I had cable tv but haven't had tv for a few years now & have been watching TH-cam, Netflix & Hulu since. Thank you so much.
We have outdoor cats. Regarding the whole "Cats want privacy.", nothing could be farther from the truth. They follow me out to the garden to poop in the loose, sandy soil there. They like to be a certain distance from me, far enough away that I'm not a threat, but close enough to be under my protection. They often look at me as they poop, as though for reassurance. They're like, "Hey, check it out! I'm poopin' over here! Take a picture or somethin'!"
Same, we have littermates, the box is next to the human toilet and the act a bit miffed if we walk in on them. As babies they used the box together. Roxie NEVER covered her waste, her brother always did it for her. He often acted as if he was trying to teach her. They are 3yrs old now. Roxie covers when she wants to, otherwise her brother, Garcia always dutifully covers for her. They have NEVER gone outside the box. BUT Garcia LOVES to kick sand out onto the floor, higher sided or covered litter boxes are only seen as a challenge. We had simply resigned to sweeping up the scattered litter as we scoop the waste at least 3 times a day.
I got one in the bathroom (shower behind the curtain) one in basecamp, one in the basement, one in the living room for 2 cats. They primarily use the bathroom box and sometimes basecamp. the others arent used at all. I clean out the box daily. No issues with them going anywhere but the box. I use clean and clear by tiddy cat and have removed all the plug in scents in the bathroom and basecamp. I have scent markers all over the house from scartching posts and pads to corner rubbers and a one fast cat wheel. Your wisdom on cat behaviour is perfect I couldnt be happier with the results after practicing what you preach . I have some very happy stress free cats thanks to you ..
Love the show and these TH-cam videos. With the comments here, just wondered if people know that Jackson Galaxy's speciality is helping people who are having PROBLEMS with their cats! If you're doing FINE with your cat, then you (probably) don't have to change anything!! In other words, don't mess with success! :D
Yup my cat uses the litter box and it has baking soda deodorant, she has no problem with it at all, the only problem I have is that my place isn't really big enough for her to really roam that freely and there aren't a lot of Ledges for her to climb and such I'm going to try to get her a cat tower
When i got my second cat, i got a second everything so there wouldn't be a problem between them. I kept the second set of things around for a long time, but they kept using the same one. They don't want to have their own stuff obviously. So i got rid of the two litter boxes and got one big one. Never had any problems. I got many, many cat furniture over the course of 10 years. They all eventually got thrown out because they were never used. My cats like to be with me on my furniture. They don't use cat stuff. They're not like most cats who like their space. They're always on or around me. One on lap, one on shoulder... Weirdos.
I have 2 cats as well. Same thing. They insist on only using the same litter box...the other 2 have yet to be used....they are there. My older cat goes, the younger follows after to cover up the olders stuff lol. Sometimes he will go to but he always covers up for her...she refuses lol.
My cats are the same way. Have a BEAUTIFUL room FULL of cat furniture, toys, etc. Prefer bags and boxes as well as my lap or furniture. I have 7 and they each take their turn in my lap getting snuggles every day.....lol
Yeah I appreciate people's opinions or advice on cats or animals in general but they don't know EVERY cat and their personality. It's not the same and if you don't do what everyone else says you should for your cat or cats it does not mean you're doing it wrong or abusing them. As long as they're happy and healthy and you're doing the best you can for them you're ok. Please I hope everyone doesn't feel awful because of overly obsessed and pushy animal people. Don't let others bother you and don't worry about what everyone thinks of you. If you have even one person who loves you and doesn't judge you because they know who you truly are then that's all you need. You don't need a ton of people in your life especially if they're negative. I'm not even hating on this man's video because my point was opinions said to a point and advice is ok but it's when people judge you and push you and act as if you're abusive just because your ways are different is not ok. We need to remember to respect others and their beliefs and lifestyle as we just respected theirs. I don't mind learning new things and hearing people out but it does not mean that I have to do what they're doing as well or agree with them. That also doesn't mean that I don't like them. Boundaries are healthy and we shouldn't cross them especially with strangers. A little bold lol and a lot of people think they're experts because they heard from others or because they have their own experiences. That doesn't make them a professional and even professionals can be very wrong. Everyone learns new things daily of how to improve things and themselves too. That all said I do personally agree with a lot of what's said in this video of that it is the best usually and can work for most cats BUT there is always the exception which is just different cat personalities and that's understandable and ok if they don't care. I mean it is about the cat's happiness so if they're cool about lack of an extra litterbox box then they have spoken lol. Have a great day.
I only have one litter box for my four cats, but I am very diligent about keeping it cleaned out. It's kept in a secluded, but very social/busy area of my house; my bedroom. My kitties have no qualms about it and I don't have to worry about any odors, because I clean it out regularly. As for using air fresheners, I love scented wax warmers that fill my entire home with their fragrances. And I don't have to place it next to their litter box.
We used to live in a small apartment and my cat always meowed when she used the litter box. We used to think that it's because she didn't want anyone in the bathroom with her lol
I was worried out kitty was uncomfortable when we got her or in pain because she meowed every time she used the litter box. Then someone pointed out that little kittens meow when they use the little box to tell their mom “look, I went!” So cute and now that she’s older she doesn’t meow any more unless she wants to tell me to “clean my bathroom, peasant!”
We run a cat rescue (21 cats) the best thing we EVER did was build a 10x12 "catio" in an area at the back of the house that was LITERALLY a mud pit. It's got a cement floor, heavy landscape mesh for two walls and a tin roof. It's built so that we can go in and pressure wash the floor if needed. The cats can access it through two cat doors set in the windows on the house side. The 4th wall has the door to the laundry room. We have shelves at different levels and cat trees as well for them to climb and sleep. It seems like the 4 ferals are constantly out there, but most of the tame ones love being out there too. We put a squirrel feeder and bird feeder where the cats can see them and watch the local wildlife. The animal control guy thinks it's the best one he's seen. Not helpful for folks in apartments, but home owners might consider one for their felines.
This just makes me rethink having cats in the first place. I definitely don't want litter boxes all over my house (and I unapologetically won't), and I think it's a preposterous, completely unrealistic idea, so I suppose that means that I wasn't meant to have cats in my home. Maybe I'll be attacked for this comment, but it is a genuine and honest one.
Honestly, I have two cats and one box in the bathroom. They seem to do just fine. We put out a second box in the bathtub since my female used to like to poop in there but neither of them ever used it. So, we just have the one, it is covered and other than someone occasionally peeing on the stairs leading inside, we don't have any issues.
It's really just a fact of life having indoor cats. My 3 cats (two male, one female) are part time indoor/outdoor (of course, they're all fully clawed) and we can get away with only two boxes during the summer. One is in our walk-in closet, and the other is behind a couch in the living room... Really, if you keep a box clean (meaning a scoop at least every-other day, the smell is fine. We only keep 1 air freshener on at a time, and it's on the opposite side of the house. Jackson's advice is fantastic and has amazing "rules of thumb" like the 1-box-per-cat-plus-one, but every cat is different. The rules aren't universal.
My cats have always done fine with one cat box. They have been using the same one for about 3 years and never once had a problem with them peeing or pooping anywhere. And if you have never had a cat they IMO are a great pet to have. mine are super loving and love to cuddle with me. Don't let the video make you think this is what you HAVE to do. Certain things work for different cats.
Having a cat means doing right by THEM. If something as important to THEM as litter is something you unapologetically refuse to comprise on I would STRONGLY STRONGLY STRONGLY say you should not get it a cat. It doesn't mean you are a bad person. Cats have needs, if you are unwilling to put the pooping NEEDS above your mere WANTS it means you should pass on cat ownership. That said I have two cats and one covered litter box (no door) facing the world not the wall in the living room next to the tv and it works very well. I had two and three litter boxes but they always used only one so I put it where they used it and it's been that way since they were kittens. Sometimes I put a second one out and it never gets used.
You don't need to have litter boxes all over the house. You just need to experiment and see what your cats like. If you can't take the time to make your cats happy, you don't deserve cats.
dude all your content is helping me a lot, I've had 3 cats for 4 years and they don't get along very well, so I stopped going out a lot bc of the fear of them killing each another, but this last weeks, with all your tips, I'm really grateful I found your channel
So where should we fit the second box, guys. The one litterbox is all That I have space for in my bathroom. mum won’t allow cat toilets around our living or dining area. God forbid.
@@rosegemini747 You can put it in your bedroom? Due to a few problems with my family I am sleeping in the living room right next to the litter box. I don't have any problems with smell or anything. (Probs because we clean it at least once a day and have a second one as well) So if you don't mind having your cat pooping when you are asleep it should be fine :')
I have 4 full grown cats (2 male 2 female all fixed) and I have two LARGE open "litter boxes" (actually rubber maid clothing containers designed to go under a bed, best litter boxes I've ever had) side by side in their room. Under an open window with a plug in about 4 feet away. I scoop every other day and I have no issues with my very well behaved little ones. I've been doing it completely wrong for about 10 years with mine I guess. I think I'm gonna keep with what I'm doing though, we seem to have a pretty good thing going.
I have been doing things wroung at least that's what he said I have the cabinet litterbox and its perfect, food and water next to the litterbox and air fresher next to the litter box and so much more please read my comment its right above yours
I've been doing the same type containers for many years now. I use an unscented litter with very low dust---Dr. Elseys is one of the few that are really low dust, but there are others.
I was at a party full of 20 something turd-faced young people. How an old stogie like me got invited, who knows. The cat was acting strangely, maybe freaked out by all of the people. I gathered that he wanted me to follow him so I went to the laundry room. There in his sand box was a giant turd, still smoking, looking like Bigfoot dumped it. Damned kids..... Kitty was quite unhappy about that. I dumped 10 pounds of clumping litter on it between gagging fits. I left the party early and took my Weed Whacker powered Margarita Machine with me. Kats is purdy smart creatures.
@@Jadizi Agreed. It was so off topic. Anyway, you can put one of the litter boxes in the bathroom. That's a place where most people still have space. It'll at least save a bit of space. ^^
My cats ACTUALLY want privacy, I never cared if I could see the poop since it made it easier to know when it's time to clean but they refused to go until the moment I put the hooded lid on 😂 in fact when I was putting new litter in the tray the lid was on the ground and they walked inside of it and pooped ugh luckily the floor was tile at the time. Some cats are shy poopers lol
I recently became a cat mom, even though I was scared of cats all my life. We found a kitten in danger of getting hit by cars and decided to adopt him. For the first three months, the litter box was in the living room, but litter would scatter everywhere. So, I moved it to my room. It took him a few days to adjust, but now he’s doing just fine.
i LOVE the pine pellets... 24$ a year for litter... also, no pine oil bc kiln dried... also, my cats dont seem to mind at all and NO TRACKING IN THE HOUSE AT ALL! Super easy and clean option!
I was cleaning the box this morning. I walked out of the room and got caught in conversation with my sister. I go back with fresh litter and find one of my kittens using the empty box.. the look on his face when he saw me.. desperately and frantically trying to cover the poop when there is no litter there. 😂 he was freaked out.. poor guy.
#1 problem = covered litterboxes; So many cats, especially if large won't use a covered litterbox. firstly, if there are other cats in the household, a covered litterbox is a trap, 2) if the cat is large, a covered box may not be tall enough. Many cats prefer to defectate in an upright position--a covered box won't allow them this position. Litterboxes should be large enough to allow 3-4 " of litter. You need a box 8+"" high. Say "no" to dinky boxes. #2 problem = Dirty litterboxes. Good general rule of thumb: 1 cat, scoop box(es) once a day. 2 cats, twice a day, 3+ cats, 3x a day. It takes all of 3-4 minutes to scoop a cat box..do it. Morning, when you get home from work, before bed. Use a scoop with large holes for the first scoop, use a scoop with smaller holes to get the crumbles (which still produce odor). #3 problem: bad location. Don't put litterboxes near cats' food or water or bed. A cat in a multi-cat household should never feel trapped going to a box. Boxes should always have an escape route. #4 Stalkers. Some cats are stalkers, always following another cat to the box. Solution is to have multiple boxes and put a bell on the stalker cat so the other cat can be alerted when the stalker is approaching. The more submissive cat (the stalkee) should never have a bell or tags that jingle.
@@loughrey101 Probably to cut down on odors for the benefits of humans. My experience is that some cats are afraid of them for some reason, like if it has a door, or it's dark inside, or the noise of an automatic box; and some cats don't mind or even prefer covered boxes. Over the years, all of my cats have been very different from each other.
My kitty loves her covered litter box but to be fair she uses an uncovered one too (I use them interchangeably whenever I have to clean one) I can’t say that she prefers either or better.
I bought a covered litterbox because I kept hearing that "cats like privacy" when doing their business. My cat held her pee for 12 hours before I figured it out and removed the cover. No, they don't need privacy - mine poops without shame, doesn't really care who's watching. I'm surprised she doesn't make direct eye contact when she's doing it tbh. We keep her main box in the bedroom, since she spends most of her time there. It doesn't smell at all since it's scooped often - her dry food is actually smellier than her eliminations, lol.
Same. Never had any problems with the litter box being out of human sight. I hope someone wanting a cat who never had one doesn’t see this video because it will definitely scare them away. I’m sure there are cats that have litter box problems that require all this he’s saying but it’s definitely not every cat and he’s making it seem like it.
He's not saying that all hidden boxes are bad, he's specifically talking about cats that are having litter PROBLEMS - going outside of the box, spraying, kicking litter out, won't touch the litter, etc. He's trying to show owners ways to change up their litter habits to encourage their cats to use litterboxes again.
I'm having the entire ground floor woodwork of my house completely removed and filling the empty space with 2400 cubic feet of cat litter. Couch, dining table, bed, etc, will all sit on 6" deep of cat litter. My question is, if I choose a cat litter that matches the color of the living room furniture, will that hurt my cat's feelings?
seriously... i can't stop laughing. thank you. amazing. cuz... at SOME point, isn't this MY freakin' house???? btw i have 2 of the most adorable but most loved and spoiled cat children evah. :)
This is hilarious to me because I've got a cat who flat out refuses to poop in the litter box. We've tried literally everything. I joked with the vet that I was just going to fill the entire spare bedroom floor with litter. We laughed. Though I have a feeling that even if I go with covering the entire house floor with litter, she'll work out how to crap on the wall.
Nice advices, but I follow practically none of them. I have 3 cats. ONE litter box. A hooded one. However, I got over my past lazyness and I clean it EVERY MORNING before feeding time. No more mess! Also, the litter box is, in the passageway, at the entrance of the kitchen right beside the pantry. Seem weird, but it's the only good spot. Also, many times, a cat will do his business with the head out of the litter box, with that funny smug expression on their face. Finally, of course once I clean the thing, a cat must come and mark it. They even take turns to do it!
+Le Kanraposte I wish my sister's boyfriend would their cat's litter box. He does it only once a week. I would do it myself, but...well...they are not my cats. Plus I plan on getting my own soon, so...
+Saphiria TheBlueDragonKnight Ew. I used to do exactly that. Lemme warn you, if cats are too disgusted by their fill litterbox, the cats WILL do their business elswhere... And once you'll discover the makeshif "litterboxes", it will be TOO LATE.
Since Charlie started living with us, he was started with a single litter box in the finished basement. When he has to go, he goes downstairs to the basement, does what he has to do, then comes back upstairs. Since installing the single litter box with no top and scented litter, he has not missed yet.
You take so much for granted that the cat owner has a big house, with 1 or more bathrooms and lots of money to spend on multiple litterboxes and sand bags. How about giving advice for the people who live in small apartments and can't afford the luxuries that seem ordinary for you.
Totally agree with you. Beside the fact that less works most of the times too. Most of the time it's not highly necessary to have multiple litterboxes.
That just means 1 cat is better for you than 2+ cats. It's also not the best idea ever to have a cat inside a small apartment that won't fit 2 liter boxes as cat needs space. I don't know why multiple litter boxes are that expensive. You can find most litter pan/box under $5 each. You definitely don't need tray liners. Arm and Hammer sells some of the cheapest cat litter I know. If you just get rid of the cat waste frequent enough, the litter is going to last for a week with only 4-5 inch deep of litter. I use Fresh Step Scoopable, I definitely want it to last through the week, so I check their litters 3 times a day. At the end of the week, dump everything out, and you will see that you don't need the liners at all.
ooXChrissieXoo The problem is more like, where do you put two litterboxes so they won't stand in the way. But really, two litterboxes for one cat is BS. I've always had cats and two can easily go on one toilet. Yeah, you can spoil your cat as much as you want but who says they need it. Of course it's the BEST to put a litterbox in every corner and toys and climbing trees all over the house, but it's not a priority. Besides, every cat has different wishes. Some are easier than others. Buying all this stuff for your cat doesn't make a you a good owner, giving it the attention and care it needs does.
Thank you for pointing out the obvious!! Why is this advise not naturally understood by people in the first place is my main question!!! Why are people so out of touch with animal behaviors, needs, and wants?
i have 1 open litter box in the middle of the computer room, 2 (one domed and 1 open) in the living room, 1 open top in the second living room, 1 domed in the bathroom and 3 (one domed and 2 open) in the laundry room. i have different types of litter in them (3 different types) so the cats can have their preferences.
+gothmoth you have EIGHT litter boxes?! :O lol girl, how many cats do you have?! lol, that's still awesome though! better to have them & not need them than to need them & not have them ^_^
varies with each cat, layla hates domes and likes the large litter pellets (and shes the only one who does), ray, sweet tooth, cherry truffle, barley, haunter and talon all like domed and fine litter, bone, sweety, and simba will use any thing and Timone only uses open with flesh litter. (seriously if the litter isn't fresh enough timone will use the sink instead of a litter box)
I have 2 cats and 1 box and somehow it works, there hasn't been any problems. I was surprised; they had this routine already when I adopted them so I just shrugged and thought "why muck with their system if it works?"
I have 3 cats . 1 8 month old and two 5 months olds all siblings (I rescued mama and babies she got pregnant back to back before I rescued her) and I only have one big covered litter box and it works. Never had any issues they use it just fine. I have an apartment I can’t imagine having 3 litter boxes lol
Thank you for the litter box tip. I took on a rescue dog who i presume ambushed her at her litter box as shortly after the dogs arrival she suddenly stopped using it. I do have one in my bedroom which she occasionally uses, mostly she goes on the bathroom floor in front of the toilet or in the bath, ( which is not so bad in the grand scheme of things) but i will follow your advice and try different ones in different rooms. Many thanks.
Keep the litter box clean should have been rule # 1. My cats, knock wood, don't have a problem using the litter box. I prefer unscented litter and think they do, too. They don't mind the hooded boxes. But maybe because it never occurred to me to turn the entry backwards!
My friend put me onto you and what your telling us makes a lot of sense. I have two almsot 5 mth old kittens, one male and one female, haven;t had a kittens for a long time and they are just so supportive.
Well I know this is a really old video but I’ve been watching a couple things people talking about cat boxes. In the 80s I adopted an outdoor cat who was an 11-year-old male who never even saw a litter box before. He was pretty good he would go in the litter box but he put his front paws in and poop out the back. I soon realized why, box was wedged in a corner this big boy wanted to go and turn around and dig a hole but he couldn’t because the walls were in the way, once I pulled the box away from the walls took it out of the corner he was fine bless his heart rest in peace itty bitty😍😻🙏🏼🕊❤️
This video is so helpful. I watched it when it was first posted, but I think of it all the time and whenever someone starts complaining about a cat peeing all over or something, I send them the link.
My litter box is in the kitchen. He seems to be fine with it. We use compressed wood pellets because it has no smell on its own, doesn't clump and it's soft on the paws. Never bought anything else.
I have the litter box in the kitchen / by outdoor slidedoor/ dining room. no-one really does there... it doesn't smell. my cat is happy. it doesn't bother people. but I get it not many do that, but before you ask who does that with discuss, ask yourself, who designs a bathroom /laundry room next to the kitchen.
That's the thing. Because there's no ammonia in the litter you can't smell a thing. When he does his thing it smells for a minute and then it's done. Also really depends on what you feed your cat. My cat doesn't eat human food (he just doesn't want any anyway). By the time we can smell the litter box we just replace the litter entirely.
We are so so lucky that all four of our kitties share the single one litter box, which is a large transparent storage box that we keep inside the laundry. It’s tucked away between the washing machine and the sliding glass door that leads to the yard, has plenty of sunlight during the day but very private at the same time. We clean it twice a day, more often if I am home and someone does a stinky one :) we use clay based kitty litter that is super effective at clumping and odour control, and we like to keep it piled quite high inside the box so it’s manageable even after everyone has gone and done their stuff. Our cats never complain about the arrangement, in fact they even wait in line rather patiently for their turn and it’s super cute to bump into a kitty box queue on some mornings.
It's funny how they will line up and wait. We just adopted two kittens. They will sit there and watch me clean, as soon as I am finished, one will jump in. When she is done, the next one goes. I clean it again. They have me trained well. LOL
Kind of annoyed by this advice. I inherited 2 cats and live in a one bedroom apartment. I don't have room for 3 litter boxes. You gotta make your life liveable for everyone, not just your cats.
True true. I live in a big house, but there are always a lot of babies and little children around so I can't have litter boxes out and about because guess what kids get into stuff 😂 have 2 cats and one litter box, just gotta clean it
Jessica Potter Hi Jess. I have 3 cats & I also have only a small place. My 3 share 1 litter box & use this without any problems. But I do keep it clean & completely wash it every second day & put fresh litter. I've not had any issues.
Wow Jackson! You are the cat guru! Everything you’ve said makes sense because all our litter box issues started happening when we switched to the closed, hidden box. Thanks for ALL you do!
I have three adult male cats. They all share a large top entry closed box that is stored in a closet in my laundry room. They have never sprayed peed or pooped anywhere. I adopted each of them 1 year apart.
We live in a VERY SMALL apartment. There was a MAJOR stray cat "problem" in the area when we moved in. (Small town about 15 minutes from a BIG town, so people would bring their cats to our small town and dump them.) I started feeding ones that showed up in our area hungry, and a lady down the street does the same. I gave them antibiotics if they had an infected wound, flea treatments, and kitty vitamin supplements to get them on track with their health. The first to show up was one we had seen around dumpsters and trash cans looking for food, but he would run if approached. He just showed up on our doorstep one day, sweet as could be. We took him in and named him Oscar (after Oscar the Grouch lol). For the subsequent ones that showed up, I found them loving homes when they were healthy enough to go. Then one day, a little bitty guy started watching the commotion from afar. It took weeks to get him close enough to touch. When I touched him and he didn't run, I ran my hand down his back and he just melted. I picked him up and he flopped back on his back in my arms, like an infant, placed his paw gently on my cheek, and rubbed his face on mine. I was IMMEDIATELY done for. I noticed that he had a birth defect that had caused some of his bottom teeth to look snaggly, he always looks like he's sneering at you. He HAD to be the runt. He also had a VERY sensitive stomach for about the first 9 months we had him. I had to get kitten food, dry and wet, and give him a small meal about every 3 hours to prevent diarrhea, and even then it still happened sometimes. He has since grown out of that, and his teeth don't bother him. He is THE MOST AFFECTIONATE CAT I'VE EVER EVEN HEARD OF, whether he knows you or not. He loves EVERYONE. And if you come in my house and cry, even if he has never met you before, he will jump in your lap and rub his face on yours, lick your tears away, and snuggle you until you feel better. Oh! We named him Snagus Maximus, and his nickname is "King of Chaos". He is either in OMG I LOVE YOU mode (which is about 75% of the time), and OMG RUN AND ATTACK ALL THINGS (about the other 25% of the time). Oscar, on the other hand, is the most Zen cat that has ever lived. If The Dude from The Big Lebowski was a cat, he would be Oscar. They compliment each other well. I only have room for one litter box unfortunately, but it's a big one and in a place that is open and often traveled, so they don't feel ashamed or anything. They do fine with that. When we get a bigger place, we'll get a second one, but I'd bet they'll both use them both. Snagus has adopted me and a VERY close friend going through a hard time that spend time at our place often, and Oscar has adopted my husband. Oscar loves me and Snagus loves him, but it's pretty clear who their favorite is. I have been a cat person my whole life, but was allergic until I hit my early 20s and it just kind of went away. I had to give up my kitten as a young child because my eyes kept swelling shut and I struggled to breathe sometimes. But I fought like hell to keep her anyway! Snagus reminds me SO much of her, and I still cry sometimes when I think back to her. Anyone that says they hate cats have just never had one choose them. It changes you. In a wonderful way. I love my boys. I would die for them. I know some people think that's insane, but they would do the same for me. Guaranteed.
I have 1 cat and 1 litter box which has been in the same spot since it was a kitten, next to a toilet I rarely use. My cat has never pooped or peed anywhere else. If it sees me while doing its business, it'll usually stop until I go away, clearly wanting privacy. Don't assume all cats behave the same. Animals, humans included have different personalities, especially house pets (also, humans included lol) who adapt to their owners.
KatMch my cat is like that too. I think she prefers the hooded litter box that my mom let me have hers after her new apartment didn't have room for it (it was one of those igloo looking ones). My cat also had this obsession of walking on the edge of the open box and would dump it at least once a week sometimes. When I was offered the igloo litterbox I brought it up to my boyfriend he agreed to give it a try (she was his cat first). Once she figured out what is was she would only use that one. She was a little scared of it first but I took the top off for her and set her inside. She immediately started digging in it so I left the room for her to use it. When she came back out I placed the top back on and she has used that one since. After about a week of no use we ditched the other one.
YES! We have two kittens (6 and 7 months) and one cat (8 yrs). They two of them spend waaaay too much time trying to bury their messes. At times, one leaves the mess on top and does not bury it all all. To solve the mess, I put a thick, tightly woven blanket, under all three boxes. At the end of the day, I move the boxes, pick up the blankets and pour it all back in.
I put my box in a larger cardboard box, about 6 inches each side larger than the cat box and about as tall as the cat box and it catches all of the stray litter. I have three cats and two litter boxes and the only accident I had was when one of them urinated on the floor in another room. A trip to the vet confirmed my thought, she had a UTI.
Jackson I live in the UK. I have two little female kittens and am asking for advise on the best types of litter and foods for them. Any advise would be welcome❤
I've tried telling my mother several times that we need to scatter our litterboxes (as I've learned from my cat from hell) but my mother goes against it because she doesn't want to see them... so of course our cats continue to poop on the floor. Is there any other way I can try to convince my mother otherwise about this?
Have you tried using treats to train your mother? It worked wonders with mine. I found that making her a nice bowl of her favorite ice cream with lots of good crap dumped all over it would usually do the trick. On the rare occasions that that failed, then threats of "The Home" would always help her to see the error of her ways and make her come to her senses. Try it!
my mom kept the litterbox downstairs in the laundry room🙄 then got mad when the cat peed on my bed. i REPEATEDLY told her we had to move it. she finally did after she brought the cat to the vet and the vet gave my mom a syringe
very enjoyable reading these coments. i think it shows the distint personalities of each cat. my hairless uses odorless clumping cob or pine, he has allergies and asthma .i have found that using baking soda really helps with odor, and sir winston loves it. as others mentioned he prefers the toilet area location ,and goes in with me using his litter box at the same time
I've used it for two years, no cat smells in my house cats love it, no toxins to hurt the cats, no clay boulders in the box...try it,,only $6 for 50 lbs
I think if your not having problems with litter boxes and your cats not using them. Then find a place to put out more. If just one works you should be okay but he says that having the proper number will solve any problems you are having. So if you have no problems you should be good
Lynn I personally would say no. I’ve sat with my kitten all day and while they do nap for a while they are also incredibly busy and spend a lot of time running around. If possible I would talk to your cleaning lady and inform her about you cat. Maybe if needed you could restrain your cat into a smaller room so they can’t run out the door on the lady but I would not suggest locking up your cat all day long with no mental stimulation.
2 of my kitty's like to go potty when i do hahaha and i can never shower in peace either, everybody has to come visit me in the shower for some reason. i have 3 litter trays and the bathroom one seems the most used .. they know its where i go so they ant to go there too
3:35 i'm really glad that i was actually doing the right thing with open litterboxes! I used to have one like this, but when my elderly foster cat went blind, she could no longer find the entrance to that litter box! So i took the lid off, and the side effect was that i found myself *immediately* scooping stuff out as i saw it. I didn't SEE it in the old litterbox, so i only cleaned it once a day or less (and she didn't bury well), which probably really sucked for her :/ - so i noticed: for my own ADHD brain, having an open litterbox reminds me to scoop immediately instead of “out of sight, out of mind“ and postponing the chore. I am SO glad to hear i was “accidentally” doing the right thing by removing the lid and having open litterboxes only!!

Jackson Galaxy thanks for the tips!
Jackson Galaxy. My cat just got spayed. I want to know what litter to use.
Jackson Galaxy black Siamese and he has dandruff how do you get rid of it
So happy I found you, my problem is neighbors cats always use the little garden spot to the side of my door as a bathroom.
+Helen Gibbs funny, that was exactly how my former cat used to do its business, too! With me in the toilet! lol! Best buddies
+Helen Gibbs yep, same. My cat will ACTIVELY follow me into the bathroom, just so she can join me in my anal adventures.
+Helen Gibbs Wow ..glad to know I am not alone.
I put mine in front of the toilet, he likes to go when I go, lil bonding moment lol.
That drives me nuts. Little bastard won't let me poop in peace and thinks the toilet paper is a cat toy.
Cat: "hey"
You: ?
Cat: "nice cock bro"
hahahaha same

Wow my cat is a saint. We have just one litter box and he uses it like a pro. Never once took his biz outside it ever!
Mercy Jade Ivertex Anderson yep we have 3 cats and 2 litter boxes and they use them very well!!
SAME i have one cat and one litter box and never once a accident
so far, things can always change. But yes I have had 3 cats all of them have been pros so far.
Same here one cat one box, never a problem.
My cat does the same, she uses one litter box to pee and the other one to defecate.
Same with my cat.
Precious 💕
“For the most part He stayed consistent “ 😩😩😂😂😂
Ditto
"put litter box in the most social places"
Me: ok, the bathroom beside the toilet.

My cats immediately run to the cat box to dookie as soon as they hear the first scoop lol
My cats will come running all 5 will do it
@@irisheyesofbelfast Marking her territory!
The moment I brought a litter box to my kitten, she immediately knew what to do with it. It was like instinct. She's never had potty problems ever since. And she was only 4 months old. Now she's 5 years old. c:
How high do i fill the litter box litter?.
Frank R. Haugen smart!
that is absolutely hilarious and cool, wow, just think if you could get that recorded on video, it would win awards!
what cause him to pass away?
Frank R. Haugen A
so I've never had any experience owning a cat before, and prior to adopting my first cat, I did at least 4 months of research prior and your videos was a vital resource for me.
This plus the cats pee/ammonia isn't giving your cat a respiratory problem
About 8 years ago my cat decided she wasn't using litter anymore. You name the litter, we tried it. It was driving us nuts trying to figure out why she decided to use the bathmat as her toilet. The solution was pee pads in the box. I'm so grateful the vet recommended using them.
some cats don't like the feeling of any litter on their feet.

Then he sits there waiting for me to clean it up, and once I'm finished he takes a sniff and then "ok" and goes back to his business. xD
Are you making these mistakes setting up your cat's litter box #TeamCatMojo? buff.ly/1pipWWj
Can i use Soil or sand instead of litter??
Thanks Jackson. We have four cats but they can go out to pee and poop. We are moving soon and will need to keep them indoors. This will ensure we have no problems initially!
Will my second cat only use his own litter box, or just use any other, even if it smells of other cat? How to place it during initial meeting, when they switch the rooms? Surely I shouldn´t move new litter box along with the cat. I am still puzzled with bringing a new cat to our home, we only had one, as far as I remember.
This is not a litter question but I have been trying to get an answer about my cats constant biting and attacking me.
deniseg812 One of the things I learned from Jackson was to leave my cat alone. Just be patient, as they say Keep Calm and Cat On :-)
Regarding stinky poop, I’ve found that very high quality food (we use hills science diet) makes their poop WAY less stinky. That is all
I use the same brand plus I also give them raw food
Same here! The stink gets cut in half if you use quality food!
Science hill/quality food is kind of an oxymoron
Will have to try that
@@dimyonani what r u talking about did I say something wrong or something?
I have 2 cats and 4 boxes. One of them used to pee everywhere until i increased the amount of litterboxes to 4. They are in every room in the house. My cats are the most important thing in my life and my house if their house. We live here together and i do anything for them to make them comfortable. They will spend their lives indoors and i will make sure they are happy. I do not care about what others might think of a litterbox in my living room. I have a responsibility to my precious girls and they trust me with their lives and happiness. And i will not let them down.
My house is a Kitty Sanctuary, because a happy kitty makes me happy
piepding - You're awesome!I
Even in your bedroom?
My daughters 2 cats shitting, peeing and puking all over the apartment. Will she look after them? No. Its up to me an I DON'T LIKE THE LITTLE BASTARDS. A litterbox in every room? Jesus.
YOU are a very good parent. Your kitty's must love you very much!!!!! A model for the rest of us!!!
HOW DARE YOU TEL...oh its that cat man. Continue....

😆😅🤣🤣😅🤣😂
I just wanted to add that a lot of cats have PTSD type reactions to any litter boxes with lids because of trauma with cat carriers. They develop a sort of claustrophobia. This was the case with my kitty, and we had to completely remove the lid and leave the box in the openness of the living room in order for her to use it consistently. A lot of people don't realize that closing up the box like that, or putting inside of decorative cabinets, can make also make the cat feel like it's trapped and can't escape.
Katilyn Whitson my cat was the same when we got her a lid one but she's generally really good at only pooping/peeing in a tray so she got used to it.
He is allowed to sit and sleep anywhere around the house but still uses carrier as a night bedroom even tho he’s got his own cat ottoman and bed
man. this man. the commitment to cats and to proper care of them. wow
My cat doesn't care at all haha I could be in the bathroom brushing my teeth and she'll come in and take a big ole dump right behind me.
Kyle Rak'Zeroth Kee hee that's cute your cat got embarassed
I always use the smallest bathroom in the apartment, the only thing in there is a sink, a toilet and the litter box. For some reason every time I go to the bathroom it takes like two seconds and my cat is outside screaming to come inside and pee at the same time as me. The fun part though is that she sits with her face one centimeter from my leg, but she refuses to look me in the eyes. Cats are such weird animals.
I put it in the bathroom and the cat always opens the door to take a shit then leave and closes the door again 👍 my cat is smart
yeah sure, I bet it flushes it too and scoops it's own poop

when i go to pick up my cat's poop from the litter box, he comes and starts covering it again as in telling me "Why do you uncover my poop hooman!?!? It's supposed to be under the ground!! STAHP!"
he never does his thing outside of the litter box, the box is in the bathroom, it's esiest to clean it while it's there.

Thank you Jackson. My cat appears to be an extremely happy and active cat. Her weight is good. I am happy and my cat is happy.
According to our cats, the best place to put the litterbox is next to the toilet. They also like to use the litterbox while I'm on the toilet.
My CAT, same. He is a social peeer & pooper :-)
That's where I put mine but she likes sitting on the toilet!
We have two male cats and just one litter box.
They always use it correctly and we clean it up twice a day.
Answered exactly what I was thinking. As my kittens use the same covered box, no problem. Thanks for the common sense heads up. X
Very good point! If our furballs are doing well, then we're doing well! ☺
Mine are the same way! I have 3 cats and they all use the same box. They're good with it. And they all lay on me ALL. THE. TIME. lol!!
I too call my cat a weirdo😂😂
Thanks, Jackson. I just got my first cat, Persephone and I want to do what is right for her.
Im about to get my mira, and im so nervous after watching all these videos lol
Same! :) He’s been mostly sweet though a little mischievous as he explores the wider house. He must have had a loving home before being surrendered.
Great tip more boxes even for 1 cat... i put one just next to my toilet and when i go he comes with me and often does his stuff with me :D

@@rosegemini747 You can put it in your bedroom? Due to a few problems with my family I am sleeping in the living room right next to the litter box. I don't have any problems with smell or anything. Youre not crazy. I love seeing my cats little face, the squeeze, the shake
Think about it - Would you want to eat your food next to your toilet? I'm sure your cat does not like it - she just has no choice
i was on the toilet taking a dump and my kitty came to take one in her litter box right next to me, it was truly an honor

So if the cats have 3 litter boxes, plus a play area, and a personal closet.... where do you put all the human items?
@Abdelkader Medjadji thats not what she said. At all...
So my cat gets 3 bathrooms and i only get one 😡
Have to appease the cat gods
Yup.

Can you address pine pellets used as litter? Is clumping litter really harmful to cats?
Works for us.
I was wondering this as well
@@godmessanger9114 same here👍
i LOVE the pine pellets...

You my friend are a Genuis!!!! FANTASTIC advice!!!!!
My cats were afraid of small, covered litter boxes until I found large, rounded boxes with clear lids. The door is large enough so they can stand up.
Have had multiple cats for 50+ years with 2 boxes and have never had any issues. They are hidden out of the way too.
Same. Never had any problems with the litter box being out of human sight. I hope someone wanting a cat who never had one doesn’t see this video because it will definitely scare them away. I’m sure there are cats that have litter box problems that require all this he’s saying but it’s definitely not every cat and he’s making it seem like it.
So very true!
i feel bad for the cats that were with you for 50 years hope you don't neglect them and I hope you play with them a lot
You're very lucky. I dont think your cats are the norm.

I have 3 boys 3 boxes side by side never ever had an issue. They do their business and away they go
I'm having the entire ground floor woodwork of my house completely removed and filling the empty space with 2400 cubic feet of cat litter. Couch, dining table, bed, etc, will all sit on 6" deep of cat litter. My question is, if I choose a cat litter that matches the color of the living room furniture, will that hurt my cat's feelings?

If this bloke had his way, we all would!!!! 😅😅😅😅😅
+Le Kanraposte What do you mean by a cat marking it. Just curious to know.
+John Christian
A tiny mini piss, just to "mark" the cleaned litter.
+Le Kanraposte I wish my sister's boyfriend would their cat's litter box. He does it only once a week. I would do it myself, but...well...they are not my cats. Plus I plan on getting my own soon, so...
+Saphiria TheBlueDragonKnight
Ew.
I used to do exactly that. Lemme warn you, if cats are too disgusted by their fill litterbox, the cats WILL do their business elswhere... And once you'll discover the makeshif "litterboxes", it will be TOO LATE.
Le Kanraposte Well that explains a lot. Sigh. If he's too lazy to take care of his cats, I guess I have no choice anymore.
Since Charlie started living with us, he was started with a single litter box in the finished basement. When he has to go, he goes downstairs to the basement, does what he has to do, then comes back upstairs. Since installing the single litter box with no top and scented litter, he has not missed yet.
"1 litter box per cat plus 1" me having 13 cats
me having 24: where do i walk?
You take so much for granted that the cat owner has a big house, with 1 or more bathrooms and lots of money to spend on multiple litterboxes and sand bags. How about giving advice for the people who live in small apartments and can't afford the luxuries that seem ordinary for you.
I agree
Totally agree with you. Beside the fact that less works most of the times too. Most of the time it's not highly necessary to have multiple litterboxes.
Yeah whatever. Thanks for sharing a solution with the rest of us.
So... how does one become a cat behaviourist/therapist? This could be my dream job: helping people love their cats better
What is the best litter tray/box solution for 1 cat living with me in a 1 bedroom flat? Where should I place it?
Thank you for pointing out the obvious!! Why is this advise not naturally understood by people in the first place is my main question!!! Why are people so out of touch with animal behaviors, needs, and wants?
i have 1 open litter box in the middle of the computer room, 2 (one domed and 1 open) in the living room, 1 open top in the second living room, 1 domed in the bathroom and 3 (one domed and 2 open) in the laundry room. i have different types of litter in them (3 different types) so the cats can have their preferences.
+gothmoth you have EIGHT litter boxes?! :O lol girl, how many cats do you have?! lol, that's still awesome though! better to have them & not need them than to need them & not have them ^_^
i've got 6 adults and 5 kittens. (two of the kittens are feral and were brought to me to be tamed) =)
+gothmoth
My only question is then what is in fact their preference?
varies with each cat, layla hates domes and likes the large litter pellets (and shes the only one who does), ray, sweet tooth, cherry truffle, barley, haunter and talon all like domed and fine litter, bone, sweety, and simba will use any thing and Timone only uses open with flesh litter. (seriously if the litter isn't fresh enough timone will use the sink instead of a litter box)
=3
I always put the litterbox in my bathroom. I figured if she harasses my while I'm pooping she is okay with me being around when she's pooping.
I use plastic totes for litter boxes, and it works well. I'm moving into a much smaller place in a couple of days and hope my cats adjust okay.
love jackson galaxy!!...nice guy!
My friend put me onto you and what your telling us makes a lot of sense. I have two almsot 5 mth old kittens, one male and one female, haven;t had a kittens for a long time and they are just so supportive.
Hi, would you please comment/ review about pine / wood pellet for litter box please 😻 thank you
Cat box is across from my toilet. He want to watch me do my business, I'll watch him do his😽
Well I know this is a really old video but I’ve been watching a couple things people talking about cat boxes.
How about the poo smell in your kitchen
True true. I live in a big house, but there are always a lot of babies and little children around so I can't have litter boxes out and about because guess what kids get into stuff 😂 have 2 cats and one litter box, just gotta clean it
+Jessica Potter i know, right? what kind of crazy person would put litter boxes out in the open in every room of the house? that is so disgusting.
+Jessica Potter It's just advice/suggestions if you're having problems. All cats are different, so do what works.
Jessica Potter Hi Jess. I have 3 cats & I also have only a small place. My 3 share 1 litter box & use this without any problems. But I do keep it clean & completely wash it every second day & put fresh litter. I've not had any issues.
@@sydandtaytum
What kind of person would call someone else crazy for accommodating their animals?
Oh, wait...
Watching this in 2022 and when he said google hangout I had to look at what year this was posted 😭
Is like anyone watching for advice in 2019?!?!?! Lol
Is it sad that this is the most likes I’ve ever gotten?! Oof... thx tho!☺️
me.
Me too
Definitely
Because people stopped for looking for cat advice in 2019? Ok weirdo.
Wow Jackson! You are the cat guru! Everything you’ve said makes sense because all our litter box issues started happening when we switched to the closed, hidden box. Thanks for ALL you do!
Okie j
Guaranteed.
Thank you!
Sam has a habit of pooping anywhere. So I put kitty box where he pooped. He started using it.
Thanks Jackson
Does any one's kitten spills litter every where around the litter box?
Our old cat is a slob in the litter box. The kittens are tidy.
Strangely enough, my kitten teach the older one to cover the poop and pee properly. My kitten more tidy than the older one.
Yes. My big guy kicks little everywhere! That’s why I had to get a box with a cover- to contain it all!
Tell her to try it for one week. Surely she can agree to a temporary trial?
I hope so, I'll give that a try thanks!
Relocating soon. One cat.
17 hours of driving, with two overnight hotel stops.
Sandbox suggestions?
Got Ceasars litter box in the hall, got two hallways to run in case he needs to. The box is nicely designed so it doesn't look to bad either :)
very enjoyable reading these coments. i think it shows the distint personalities of each cat. my hairless uses odorless clumping cob or pine, he has allergies and asthma .i have found that using baking soda really helps with odor, and sir winston loves it. as others mentioned he prefers the toilet area location ,and goes in with me using his litter box at the same time
What do you think about wooden pellet litter?
I've used it for two years, no cat smells in my house cats love it, no toxins to hurt the cats, no clay boulders in the box...try it,,only $6 for 50 lbs
How to have 3 litter boxes in a small apartment?
I have one huge litterbox in my bathroom which works. My cats have never peed or pooped anywhere but their litterbox.
I think if your not having problems with litter boxes and your cats not using them. Then find a place to put out more. If just one works you should be okay but he says that having the proper number will solve any problems you are having. So if you have no problems you should be good
I have a cleaning lady. Can I Put a cat in a carrier with litter box and food that day for work until I get home?
Lynn I personally would say no. I’ve sat with my kitten all day and while they do nap for a while they are also incredibly busy and spend a lot of time running around. If possible I would talk to your cleaning lady and inform her about you cat. Maybe if needed you could restrain your cat into a smaller room so they can’t run out the door on the lady but I would not suggest locking up your cat all day long with no mental stimulation.
Yes I figured that scenario would be too long. Might get a cat but still trying to figure out logistics as I would be first time owner!
My cat refuses to use the bathroom unless she has complete privacy but loves to interrupt everyone when they gotta go.
I have two cats one female orange tabby and a male tuxedo cat. Both we love so much. I like your videos thank you for sharing.
2 of my kitty's like to go potty when i do hahaha and i can never shower in peace either, everybody has to come visit me in the shower for some reason. i have 3 litter trays and the bathroom one seems the most used .. they know its where i go so they ant to go there too
JACKSON GALAXY ....I ABSOLUTELY ADORE YOU !!! THANK YOU FOR BEING ONE OF MY HEROS !!! PEACE BE UNTO YOU !!! ✡🖤✡🖤
Love your videos Jackson. This one really helped. Thankyou.😸
