not sure if jelly scrolling is really fixed because I’ve seen other videos showing that it still has it but reduced, and I also heard that it is changed to the horizontal orientation instead of vertical
Sorry to say this, but the jelly is still on the Mini 7. Unfortunately, since you work with Apple and hide the cons from the iPad, you’re no longer my value, honest reviewer anymore, as you just played it safe to be on Apple’s good side. 😞
I’m trying to really understand this jelly scrolling thing. I ordered the new iPad mini will be here tomorrow. I’m upgrading from the 5 and I watched videos about it . And my conclusion is that no one uses their iPad that way who is scrolling super fast to see information on the screen? No normal person uses it that way. If you are reading something on the screen you are scrolling slowly to read it. Man some many TH-camrs has blown it out of proportion it not a big deal maybe if you are one of those speed readers 😅
This is hands down the best iPad mini A17 Pro review I've seen. Thank you for addressing the jelly scroll (with convincing video proof) AND the heat of the A17 Pro in the mini. No one else I've seen has mentioned that. A huge relief!
@@Blox117 no it's not intentional it's a natural effect of displays. Apple was dumb in the original iPad mini 6 and mounted the screen controller to favor horizontal(landscape) refresh when most users use the mini in portrait or vertical.

This is why your channel is one of the best Apple centric channels around, Christopher. For one, you didn’t jump on the “this upgrade sucks bandwagon” when the Mini 7 was announced. Two, you took the time to demonstrate that the jelly scrolling was fixed. And three, you stated “this may not be the iPad that everyone needs.” I use my 12.9 Pro for daily work, but love my Mini for emails, text, media consumption, taking notes, etc. Since I have the Mini 6 and it serves my needs just fine, I won’t upgrade right away. Keep up the good work!
I’ve been using iPad minis since the first one. When the first iPad Pro came out in 2015, I really fell in love with the iPad mini as my second device. I’m a historian and writer, and I love the iPad mini as my reading and research device. I travel a lot around the world, so I love having this little device for reading epubs, Kindle books, or PDFs. I even have a little portable bluetooth keyboard for a quick and light writing machine.
I use the mini 6 almost on a daily basis for work. I go out and talk to people a lot, not wanting to carry notebooks around anymore but still preferring to write things down instead of typing (feel a bit more personal), I use the mini and pencil 2 a lot. That why I'm quite disappointed that now, if I do want to get the mini 7, I have to spend money regardless on either a worst pen (USB-C) or a pen that's just as expensive as the one I have that's still perfectly fine. So ya, a lot of note taking with the pencil, organising my notes, basic emailing, reading and simple doodling as stress relief. I'm such an avid user of the mini that this update feels super underwhelming because it really is the bare minimum that apple could have done...
I run my business from my mini, help manage a 501(c)3 youth organization, consume media, and I also use it as a navigation tool in my jeep and for streaming music (almost like a CarPlay setup). It comes with me everywhere. I loved my larger iPad but the mini is the perfect size for me to throw in a small backpack and go. All of my work is in the cloud so I’m able to access my schedule, run payroll, answer emails, whatever from my mini.
THANK YOU for giving us a thorough update/review on the jelly scroll issue. And I'm honestly a bit shocked at how many people say they considered it a non-issue, when it was the sole reason I returned my Mini 6 THE VERY SAME DAY I purchased it back in 2021.
I'm a photographer and will use my iPad Mini for at least two situations. On the one hand, if I'm doing photojournalistic stuff and an assignment is very dynamic (e.g. a protest), then on the one hand I want to be as light as possible on the move and on the other hand I want to edit and send my pictures directly on site and on the fly. Another use case are shootings, where I like to give important people like the make-up artist a live review of my pictures so that something can be changed if necessary.
I am a Motion Graphic Designer so I may just be hyper-sensitive to it, but the "Jelly Scroll" is still slightly there. Definitely improved, but I can still see it. I owned the Mini 6 and could see it right away, but over time you sorta forget about it and don't notice it unless you look for it. Though I don't think the issue has been "fixed", I imagine that the new Mini's improvement will just make it a bit more unnoticeable in person.
I started with the iPad Mini 5 and skipped the 6, I'm like 90% sure I'm gonna get the 7. I use it daily for media consumption and smaller productivity work. I sometimes edit 4k 60 gameplay footage from my xbox and used to edit a podcast on it using Ferrite. At one point I exported all of my projects from the iPad Pro to the mini 5, and basically had my mini rendering and uploading video while I continued working on new videos on my iPad Pro.
I legit use my Mini as my phone, basically because its more enjoyable watching content. Honestly once you get used to its not that unwieldy. For the record im the type of guy if the small bottle of coke is the same price as the big one, im going big.... and going to enjoy the diabetes with it lol.
I love my M1 iPad Pro 12.9, but it is just getting too heavy for my grandma hands. I can now park it on my desk with a keyboard and trackpad for photo editing and productivity. I am hoping to use the new Mini for streaming, reading, and social media. My big iPad falling on my nose while I am streaming movies before bed can be painful! 😢 I am looking forward to receiving my new Mini this coming week. 🎉
Still using the previous gen and will likely not upgrade to the new one. What I use it for are: at home, reading, trip planning and when on trips, I also use it for reading books, transferring/reviewing video files from my GoPro (using a USB-C hub with a microSD slot), browsing the web/maps for nearby places and information, along watching TH-cam videos or streaming services (it's even better if the TV at your accomodation supports screen mirroring/AirPlay). Now, of course my iPhone could do these also, but I don't want to stress the battery too hard in it with such tasks and obviously the bigger screen of the iPad Mini is just perfect for what I listed above.
If this had secondary display support, and some sort of keyboard, this could be a banger netbook. Small, portable laptop, easy to hold tablet, and could become a computer that can edit video. I really want to play with Final Cut on this.
Idc what anyone says this is a damn good refresh/upgrade, love the fact Apple didn’t raise the prices if this were Samsung or Google trust and believe it would’ve been $100 more as they’ve proven time and again. Thanks Apple!
That video helped me decide on an iPad Air. It, for me strikes the proper balance between my iPhone and my MacBook Air. I’m waiting for the SE coming in the Spring. My old iPad Pro 9.7” is very long in the tooth.
I'm planning to get the ipad mini 7 as my first ipad. I do not have an ipad ever. Firstly, I really love its size which is also the reason why I'm leaning to the mini. I have a macbook for heavy work but I just wanted to use the mini as an extention of my work especially while on the go or travelling. I am a social media manager so I can use the mini for quick photo/video editing and manage my client's socials. I also want to use it for media consumption, emails, taking notes, journalling, planning and do some art and sketching for fun. I'm still thinking whether to get 128 or the 256 one. Btw, love this review! I'm binge watching all ipad mini reviews. :)
Good review on the differences between 6 & 7! Got my first ipad ever about 6 months ago with the mini 6/2nd gen pencil. Doesnt seem worth upgrading just yet. Absolutely love the mini6/2nd gen pencil combo so far.
Can you test if there is jelly scrolling when the iPad is in landscape mode? Because it was said that Apple would fix jelly scrolling by "rotating" the display hardware (not sure how to explain this) and so in theory it was assumed that jelly scrolling would be visible in landscape mode. Thanks in advance for your reply and thanks for the review! :)
iPad mini is the best iPad. It’s the iPad that’s still holding true to the first iPad and that is a device made to use in between and along with a computer and a phone.
I don’t need an iPad mini. I just upgraded to the M4 iPad Pro 11 from my 2018 Pro 11. I just love the minis size. One of my favorite iPads was the first gen mini. At some point I’ll buy a cheap mini 6.
I used it for design research purposes! mainly planning, reading and surfing articles, and also instead of mobile game, i played on the ipad mini instead, So Funny fact, I just got my ipad mini 6 like 2 months ago. 😵💫
Great review! Love the form factor of the mini and think it could work really well in my personal workflow. Now I've just got to see if my work will pay / subsidize one for me 🤣
Man what the heck! I just traded in my fav ipad of all time, the 6th gen ipad mini, a few days ago for the 11in ipad pro m4, because I wanted final cut pro... and the requirement was an M-chip a few days ago on the App Store... darn
I'm a user of the 6 and honestly I never notice a jelly scrolling but maybe that's just me... Looking to upgrade to the 7 though. That bump in performance is huge for me who does heavy gaming on it.
I traded my ipad air 4 for this new ipad mini. No regrets! I enjoyed the air but it's just too uncomfortable to use sitting on the couch which is how I use it most of the time. My ipad is basically a glorified chess playing device and being able to hold it with one hand is an upgrade for me.
Mine’s arriving tom. I can’t wait. I dont edit at all but it’s nice to know that it can run Final Cut Pro. I downgraded from Ipad Pro 11 inch. It’s really good and powerful but still limited by the OS. And my use case does not really demand that much power. Refresh rate isn’t really a big deal for me esp with this screen size. What I really use a lot is Face ID though. 😢
Thanks for the video! My blue iPad mini A17 Pro will be delivered (in Australia) in two days time (although as I write this, my iPad has already landed in Sydney and is shown as "out for delivery". I am an avid Kindle books reader and I have the Readly app (an essential if you read magazines); so my iPad mini will be primarily a "reading device" and something I travel with or take to the coffee shop. I have an iPad Air 6 (13 inch) for everything else. As an aside, I was using my iPhone 11 as my "reading device" and while that's doable, it's not ideal. I'm looking forward to my new iPad mini. Regards, Peter
Very thorough. I’m glad the scrolling is fixed. I bought the last gen one online, but went into the Apple shop to look at the screen. Jelly scrolling was very obvious to me. So I sent the device back. So now I’ll probably get one as I use the bus to go in and out of work (an hour each way) to read newspapers, books and sort my emails. Think I’ll save the money and get the basic one as we have the Apple Premium family account with 2TB of storage. The mini will also be useful for checking photos from pro cameras in the field, where even an iPhone Pro Max is too small to check focus and exposure. Can it do Apple Sing connected to an external display as I use that for my choir?
I have a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig. On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference. I am going to buy the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard. Oh and for people who thought there wasn't a demand for mini, Amazon in the UK have sold out already!
Given that Stage Manager and proper extended displays is missing from this, I’d argue that this also means that there will never be a clamshell mode on the iPad as Apple does not consider the iPad as a highly mobile portable computer solution that one just plugs into a monitor and uses with a BT Keyboard and mouse. If they did, they would have enabled this on this device. What a shame.
For software updates, longevity and Apple`s good support, I would pick the iPad. Maybe high quality apps for video editing or some other productivity apps could be better on the iPad. For Emulation/Gaming and Media playback (watching a lot of TH-cam videos etc.) I would pick the Lenovo. (smaller black bars because of the aspect ratio and maybe better speakers) Some people really notice the 144?hz of the Y700 a lot- then you must buy it. I would pay a good amount more for the iPad mini 7 instead of the 6, especially because of the 8GB Ram? and the 128GB of storage. The device will probably last a few years longer.(smoothly)
Great review. I have a 64gb IPad mini 6, got it 3 months ago. I use it only for: Streaming YT, Netflix, web browsing, 1 light game, email, note taking on notability,. I never download anything. (I also gave tge IPad Pro 12.9 M2). Question: Do I need to upgrade to the mini 7 for 128gb storage? Or will what I have suffice? Thanks for any help.
I’m not here to bash it, and I might still get one, but the price is high enough that people expect more. Even a 90Hz display would’ve made a big difference. Samsung’s doing 90Hz on their S9 FE midrange tablet, and it’s cheaper than the Mini and the same price as the regular iPad 10. If you think people are asking for ‘Pro’ features and this isn’t that, then how do you justify the price of the Mini compared to the standard iPad?
Not sure if it’s just me on iPad mini 6 but I hate how the screen does not detect my touch properly when trying to scroll on TH-cam (fast forward/rewind). It always mistaken my gesture as an app swap. Extremely difficult for my mini to recognize my finger on this scroll bar. No jelly screen though
idc about the 120hz display... what for me matters the most is the 500nits... when i'm outside in the shade on the balcony it's so hard to watch content. it's just not bright enough... i hoped that this updated fixed this but sadly no...

I have an iPad Air 6 (13 inch) for everything else. As an aside, I was using my iPhone 11 as my "reading device" and while that's doable, it's not ideal. I'm looking forward to my new iPad mini.
Regards,
Peter
Happy for you, you sound excited, I am too, mine gets here in two more days.
I’m cool with the upgrades, but I do wish Apple had at least moved the camera location.
Did not expect to see my favorite band in the thumbnail
What convinced me to click on the video was Riot's cover haha
The 10th generation iPad
seems to have quite a few very vivid colours
I have a 128 gig mini 4. People spent 499.00 for a mini 6 with 64 gig. There was a 150.00 difference between that and 256 gig.
On the new I pad there is a 100.00 difference.
I am going to buy the 256 gig as I plan to have this iPad a long time. My 128 gig mini 4 lasted 9 years. With AI, you don't know how much memory the other apps are going to eat up so you are covered in that regard. Oh and for people who thought there wasn't a demand for mini, Amazon in the UK have sold out already!
Excellent review, Ser
This would be my first ipad tablet.
my only trust worthy iPad reviewer.
You could still see the jelly scrolling on the new one in your video with the slow motion and regular speed.
So if I upgrade from the previous gen iPad mini, I can’t use the 2nd gen Apple Pencil that snaps to the side??
I never noticed jelly scrolling, so oh well 😆. I will wait for a couple more years to upgrade.
Very informative video on iPad mini 7. Thanks
Sorry but I can still notice the newer one still has jelly problem. Therefore, it is not as obvious as the 6th gen
I like the 8Gig ram
Thanks for a really thorough video! I'll be using it in the clinic I am a doc
Jelly scrolling isn’t gone, it’s just improved. It’s the exact same hardware inside the 6 and 7.
It’s a new processor and better gpu/ram
@ what was my comment about - jelly scrolling. The hardware that controls the screen is exactly the same. But thank you for your stupid comment.
How many speakers? How do they sound, volume and quality?
Apple please just give me official stage manager support on iPad Mini. Please!!!
im getting an iPad mini 7. Im upgrading from a iPad mini 5
Is It mad to change my iPad Pro m2 for this one due to portability? Or m2 is way better
Final Cut Pro, yes!
iPad Mini 6 or 7 : Is it worth paying the extra for the 7? How about the Lenovo Legion y700 instead?
For software updates, longevity and Apple`s good support, I would pick the iPad.
Maybe high quality apps for video editing or some other productivity apps could be better on the iPad.
For Emulation/Gaming and Media playback (watching a lot of TH-cam videos etc.) I would pick the Lenovo. (smaller black bars because of the aspect ratio and maybe better speakers)
Some people really notice the 144?hz of the Y700 a lot- then you must buy it.
I would pay a good amount more for the iPad mini 7 instead of the 6, especially because of the 8GB Ram? and the 128GB of storage.
The device will probably last a few years longer.(smoothly)
@elinavance3476 Thanks for your reply
It's criminal not to update the screen to 120hz, or even 90hz. It's like releasing phones with 4GB of RAM or 64GB base storage without MicroSD.
You need to understand that the company is made up of geriatric people like tim cook hence most update always come extremely slow.
Bro just perfectly explained Apple.
I don’t get why color is important for iPads or iPhones because everyone puts colored cases on them.
Still can’t believe in 2024 they didn’t bother sliming down the bezels to give us more space and at least a 90hz display man
Great review.
I was going to get new 7 mini even though my 6 mini works fine. I am wondering if the new powerful chip runs hot. I think I will wait and see. Thanks
does it have the 80% charge limit?
Did anyone notice if it has the same speakers as the iPad mini 6?
The iPhone 16 models had a nice speaker upgrade for example.
Having to do this to prove jelly scroll is gone proves how much of a nonissue it was. Great comparison though!
Is the jelly scrolling present in.... horizontal mode? Or they fixed it completely?
you can speed up balatro in settings
5:39 I have the iPad Air with M1 and it runs Final Cut Pro just fine 🤷♂️
I’m not here to bash it, and I might still get one, but the price is high enough that people expect more. Even a 90Hz display would’ve made a big difference.
Samsung’s doing 90Hz on their S9 FE midrange tablet, and it’s cheaper than the Mini and the same price as the regular iPad 10.
If you think people are asking for ‘Pro’ features and this isn’t that, then how do you justify the price of the Mini compared to the standard iPad?
I haven’t noticed anything wrong with the screen.
It could have been a mini LED screen instead of an OLED screen, or 90 Hz instead of 120 Hz. I don't think it would affect the cost that much.
A 20+ minute video to tell me, yeah, it’s a cosmetic upgrade.
I have a question I have the iPad mini 5 and it has an update for 18.1 with apple intelligence what features of Apple intelligence does it get?
idc about the 120hz display... what for me matters the most is the 500nits... when i'm outside in the shade on the balcony it's so hard to watch content. it's just not bright enough... i hoped that this updated fixed this but sadly no...
How many binned A17 Pros can they even have? I thought they'd want to move off N3B as soon as possible
Apple is using the discarded A17 Pro chips that never made the grade, hence the binned GPU. It means that they can keep costs low and save on e-waste.
What task manager app do you use?
100% agree on colors. Why are they purposely making them duller? The 6 had good colors and even those were borderline not vibrant enough
If jelly scrolling happened because of the placement and they didn't change the display. I wonder does that mean it will happen now on landscape?
jelly scrolling is an intentional animation. it can only be disabled not "fixed"
@@Blox117
What do you mean. Like Apple made it that way?? And why?
@@hishamonepackage7067 yeah they did, its an animation to make things look nice and pretty. its a flag that you can even check in chromium browsers as well if you like it
What does external display support look like? Is it just screen mirroring like that time?
It just mirrors unfortunately.
@@ChrisLawley Such a shame!
What was that card game called?
Balatro. Available on Apple Arcade and other platforms.
