- Why is Doomfist SO BAD? I played him for 20 hours in COMPETITIVE ONLY to better at him and see why!
This video is the 2nd in a series where I will play every hero for 20 hours to see if I can master them. I aim to apply the idea that any skill can be learned in only 20 hours. Let's see if this also applies to learning heroes in Overwatch 2!

I completely agree, Tankfist is one of the hardest characters to learn in the game, yet that probably makes me love him all that more.
Dawg have you played DPS DoomFist… you know one of the most highest skill ceilings in the game, when they made him a tank they shot down the skill ceiling with a NUKLEARE BOMB 💀💀💀

Hard to play ≠ Bad.
Doomfist is not bad right now, he just takes a lot of skill. In a game with this many characters, not all of them need to be easy enough for everyone to play.
Agreed people confuse difficult or not meta with bad
I disagree doomfist’s passive is every ability he lands gives him more health which means the block legit goes against his characters design.
Doomfist would be a better tank if the block was replaced with the old uppercut that is the funniest part about doomfist.
Doomfist was also meant to be a character that flanks the healers and small health pool damages even as a tank which means he is not fit to be a tank since you arn’t supporting your team in that moment.
If you want to say “your supporting your team by killing the healers” then why isnt genji, reaper, and sombra a tank they legit do the same thing as doomfist.

@@NorseNuggieI think Doom could keep power block but just have his uppercut back as a fourth ability maybe they could make it so only you get sent upwards and not your opponents since people don't like being chain cc'ed. I'd also think Doom's slam should be able to be used without being forced to jump forward so it could be just like Earthshatter without the stun so you could actually use slam at close range.
@@NorseNuggiecompletely agree, but they decided since he was a tank he needed some defense when really all it does is make you a sitting duck. Either you use it and everyone stops shooting you so you cant get an empowered or you get shredded through and if you try to leave or use that punch to build some oover health you just die. Atleast with uppercut you could stay mobile and actually build more hp.
Not to mention a fully charged punch into a wall combined with a slam doesnt even do 150 dmg. If your empowered you can but ive found that you rarely get that empowered punch unless your ulting to get it or the enemy just doesnt care

first 2 and last 2 were like completely different people LOL
I'm a 500 hour df player. This video was very entertaining to watch. A tip i would give is to remember things that guarantee you an empowered punch. Important ones are : sojourn E, torb turret, hanzo full charge arrow, hanzo dragonstrike, atleast 2 sym turrets, junkrat total mayhem (after recent buffs, echo sticky and tracer pulse bomb will most of the time give you empowered punch). Nice to see another doomfist player being born

Dva ult is an easy one
As a 10k he doomfist main I can confidently say the the torn turret only works in some situations but it go patched so it don’t work anymore

Hard agree. Having a solid healer makes him significantly better. Hard to run back to cover each time, so mobile heroes make a world of difference.

Absolutely agree with the gold fist on the Thunder skin. It’s my favorite pick and it’s cool how he imprints the SF logo on the ground after his ult.

Love the idea of interrupting enemy abilities and ults rather than absorbing or blocking damage - I’m trying to learn JQ but baffled as to what makes her a tank. I should try this mindset! Also can’t wait for her video next week!
Always better to cancel or kill before damage happens then just heal it
JunkerQueen is a threat tank. Meaning your presence is scary enough to keep people from wanting to enter your space.
So go cover to cover, take up high ground from any widows or soldiers, practice the knife (because yoinking them off high ground into a bad position is low risk, high reward thing about her kit) and more importantly, ignore the tank. Even if they’re looking at you, that’s bonus points. They’re hitting you means they aren’t hitting your team.

i recently tried to doing a challenge where i got potg w every hero and then eventually i tried doom never playing him before like you the first few days were rough it was the least fun i ever had on ow but the more i started to play and understand his tech and cooldowns it rlly feels like a new game doom is just such a fun character even w all his counters
been waiting for this one W video
i hit top 500 doom only last season and i found that the best way to get value is to mainly 1) disrupt the enemy team (punch ppl off high ground, make them look at you, play aggressively on out of position targets, etc) 2) never engage with 2-3 CDs at once unless you have doom ult 3) do not use doom ult to get kills, unless theyre 1 hp but instead use it to land on health packs nearby and come back with empowered punch 4) never tunnel the enemy tank until 1 or both supports are dead first and like you mentioned, 5) ult track and cancel ults. and to truly have the most fun with him, you have to learn techs like diags, stall spots, etc but that playstyle also leads to turbo feeding lol
other players perceptions of doom being weak is also because he lacks utility for other teammates and people are still used to sitting behind double shield with a brig/bap infinite healing/immortality from ow1. my easiest doom games are when i have like a genji/tracer/soj/sombra/kiri/lucio (hyper mobile comps) because we just run the lobby.

Since putting in similar hours on the first and deciding he's my new main, I've found myself saying things like, "You know you're doing something right when the whole enemy team counter picks you... AND STILL LOSES"
No matter how oppressive and hard the counter, we will simply be better, play perfect, hit every cd, every left click, maximize the value that can be made. Each time we die, we come back stronger. I take that level confidence with me in every fight and a lot of the time, the team can either follow through or witness a massacre.

People for get that you have a 4 second stun (that can be instantly reset if played right) and that’s POWERFUL, to brawl an ulting soldier, to cancel queens ult, and cancel a LOT of ults, his kit is weird, and doesn’t protect his team in a traditional sense, but he makes up for it by setting his team up with nasty combinations

this whole week i’ve been practicing doom..spent about 20 hours on him and i im not kidding but i’ve NEVER raged at overwatch before until i picked up doomfist like im just now getting the hang of him but this week has been so rewarding yet brutal on ow 😭😭
Thunder is easily my favorite skin for any hero in the game and I highly doubt that will ever change

He's the first pure dive tank, and needs to be played in a dive comp to see a whole team success. His commitment to value makes him hard to use because it's either all in or out. A few buffs are still needed but I believe he's fun and rewarding
Wanna know something crazy? He’s actually a poke/brawl tank first dive second. To play him effectively you do a TON of poking and slamming in and out to build ult charge.
You are only hard committed to dive once an opportunity arises or you have ult
@RauKnowsOW very versatile and needs commitment, but strong when played perfectly. Great design. His shotguns pitifully bad at range
He’s a dive tank, but you don’t need a team with you to do anything. You look for easy 1v1 encounters. Any squishy that isn’t near more than one teammate, is your target priority.
Along with getting empowered punch every time possible.
Then if they’re grouping up, you focus on cancelling abilities and slamming as much damage as possible during team fights.
@@RauKnowsOW true, personally I consider him more of a Brawl Dive Tank tho, he can poke much like Sniper Winston, but unlike Winston, he's super good at brawling so when he does dive it's all in.

I love using his mobility to skip enemy tanks and 2 shotting squishies. Leaving the enemy Tank naked to my team's DPS characters.

Very casual and just got into OW2 played a little Orisa in OW1 way back when, don't know why but just decided doomfist was the most fun after one day and spent a WEEK getting bullied before kinda getting it together. He's so fun, im still not great but he's so much fun:)

I played Winston/Dva since OW1 launch. I finally tried Doom out and it was like something clicking within me.

Tip for you, idk if you knew this or not, but you can cancel Orisa javelin spin with punch so long as she's not golden. I saw at 3:39 that you had punch but didn't use it. There was probably a good reason, and im just dumb, but I just wanted to let you know that incase you didn't. Anyways, thanks for illuminating the many struggles we Doomfist players have!
Yup! Punching spin is great to force out golden. That would have been on first or second day so honestly was just trying to get the basics down and forgetting niche stuff haha

cancelling Ult and CD with Doom is way more fun than Sombra's ult and CD cancelling, just takes more skill and precision, so when you do pull it off it's so satisfying
I’d say both take a different level of skill. Sombra takes more planning as she doesn’t have the tankiness of doom. She has to plan where to position and time back perfectly. But I do agree doom canceling is a lot of fun!

I’m a Winston dive tank since s1 OW 1 days and never really see the diff between doom and Winston until this season where u can’t do much with monke at all. Makes me appreciate doom and are learning him. Tho 1 thing that I still dislike is sometimes all u can do is soft engage and not getting kill or sth from it unlike Winston, tho might still be skill issue as I’m still learning df
A pretty cool tip is to charge block by faking a punch, it works really well

I'd also make sense lore wise that Doomfist abilities should be able to be used in a very tactical way except they're all very straightforward, counter able and clumsy

The best way I play doom is to play defensive and build your punch. Then use the empowered punch on a squishy then get out of there with seismic slam.
I use to think the same but playing him really changed my mind. I’ll be making a new 3 bad habits vid but soft engaging w/ slam to build shields and ult is just as and sometimes more effective just depends on situation
Doomfist is a character that requires high skill and rewards highly.
Slam in punch out recycle. Get ult and fully go in. Wait for cool downs to come up and make sure the movement ability characters used there abilities. Or go on Ana if she is in the game. Fight the urge to use ult to go in. Wait for Orisa to use javelin and go on her back line

I’m confused is the phrase head down or head up 3:18 I’ve now heard a lot of people say head down when ever something positive happens and now I’m starting to question of if I’ve been Mis using what I’ve said the past few years.
Also if you punch 2 people in a wall shoot at the support but if you hit 3+ shoot first and then you slam

as a doomfist main, the best way to beat counters is to play around their abilites
100% that’s a big tip for tanks in general. You never want to pop cooldowns first. Force out theirs THEN make your move

Great video btw. Doom is one hero im afraid to even touch. He looks miserable to play most of the time. But knowing people like you are on that same painful journey makes me feel better about tackling difficult heroes like him.

What makes him playable is the fun of traveling across the whole map and punching everyone brutally into walls or using some map advantages to make them fall its what makes him still used after the nerfs i bet no one would’ve played doom if without those reasons

As a Doom main the first half of the video hurt to watch lmao, there are certain things you can't explain what's wrong but it just feels weird to do as doom xd
Doom i hardest to learn, but most rewarding
You help your team with punishing over extended enemy tank by destroying their supports/dpses
Sometimes you get shut down but most games I pop off 30+ kills and 1st or 2nd top dmg , dooms fun

what rank did you start and end as while playing him?
Started and end around plat 3 I think. I deranked HARD when I first started but then gained it all back plus a little. Actually just hit top 500 on tank after 4 weeks! So far done with dva, doom, JQ and just finished Orisa today
