Richter is marvellous here. And Gilels remains for me the best interpret of this sonata. His studio recording is just extraordinary. Prokofiev had a unique chance : to have Richter as the first interpret of the 6th sonata, and Gilels for the 8th. They kept those sonatas in their repertoire and became their best interprets. And I also consider Richter as the best interpret of the 9th, and Gilels as the best for the 3rd.
