My master give me inyoshintai today. It's a cornerstone for a very long and innerfull path. As a Musō shinden ryū trainee, it's a privilege to see you unveiling it. I present my respects to you and your apprentices , Asayama Ichiden-ryū have à good posterity above her. In order to perfect my art I watch your video along my practice since three month now, and one thing strikes me in your attitude : this art is an expression of joy and happines, even if it's an art of war.
I remember watching Dad do Shohatto for his nidan test. I was eight. I had seen him do some other things when I was smaller -- there's a picture of me with his training wakizashi, I was small enough it was pretty much katana-length to me -- but that was the first time I had ever seen him put that "master focus" on his technique. Watching Seki-sensei do it, and it looks exactly like I remembered 30yrs ago? That hit HARD. It's almost like being in a foreign land for along enough to learn the native language, and then encountering someone who speaks your mother tongue. Arigato, Seki-sensei.
I'm loving these lessons, specially because Seki's Sensei right hand student is the best actor ever, xD the man closes his eyes like Seki Sensei is really gonna hit him, but he also looks at every single point Seki Sensei explains as though it was his first day in the dojo. good job to all of you!
Fantastic video, as always. Seki Sensei knows kata from two different schools of Iaido (be it katana, wakizashi, or tanto), *AND* kata of the jo (two different lengths if I remember), sickles, ball-chain, throwing spikes/stars, empty-handed, etc. etc. etc. How does all that info fit in one brain?? You are truly amazing to this westerner, Seki Sensei. You're pretty cool too, Shogo. 🥰
Thank you Sensei Seki for sharing your knowledge !! It's really exciting to learn real sword's practice. You are so generous teacher!! Thank you shogo for the project and the work it is! I m sure the Seki's Asayama Ichiden ryu school in on the way !!!
Hi Shogo, I would like to thank you, and Seki Sensei for making this video available to all of us. I was so happy you guys made a video on Muso Shinden Ryu katas. I will use it as a reference for my studies. Because of you Shogo. This week marks my one-year anniversary practicing Iaido . Again Thanks for your information.
I’ve been practicing Musō Shindenryū since November 2008, and like seeing different interpretations of the koryūkata. Some have more some have less. I’ve heard of the first bunkai of seichūtō as well, but focused more one cutting both wrists. I’ll focus on the other version cutting one wrist more.
In a previous video there was a comment on how chiburi's purpose and use in some kata's has lost its purpose as blood doesn't really get removed from the blade with a flick. Does the chiburi in this kata fulfill the intended purpose of situational awareness after a blow in this case? What would be his response in that pose if the opponent recovered in such a situation?
The iaido school I visited taught the chiburi move as an additional cut just in case the opponent is not completely down. It wasn’t taught as a chiburi at all as back then, samurai wipes the blood away with a cloth.
I believe it was in another video he explained that the chiburui came with the street performers, and that there wouldn't be that much blood on the blade in the 1st place. I also train in iaido and our sensei also just says that the only chiburui that works is cloth, and then 'jokingly' say that there's the opponent clothing for
Hello I love this chanel. Lot of wisdom. I have a question. In Inyo Shintay, at the end there is an stomach slash when the second oponen attacks. There are no risks to get hit in the head with the inertia of the attack? How you deal with that kind of situations?
Oss! Jitsu ni Omedetou! Arigatou Gozaimasu for wonderful vídeo lessons! Is that fisrt Kata shown by Seki Sensei the same of the known "Mae Kata" from Kenjutsu/Iai Jutsu? Greetings from Zenshin Karate Dojo from Brazil.
I am curious as to how tall Sensei is… His blade seems longer than that of an “average“ katana, as a viewer with no other context, it appears to be more of an o-katana… I realize there is no question mark anywhere in what I wrote, but it is a question. Thank you for another interesting and entertaining video! 🙏
Good morning Seki sensei, in the same series, there is koranto, the only standing kata. At the end of the kata, just right before noto, people make a right step back. I see, some make a full step, some half step, and others a small step. I’m wondering how you would do it. In the case of a small step, how would you explain that? Thank you.
Another great video 🙏 I have a question for you, Shogo-san: you practice MJER for 8 years, and you didn’t fully understand the Kata’s - did your MJER Sensei don’t teach you about the meaning of them?

The sword is pointed at the opponent, so you can just stab it.

I have a question for you, Shogo-san: you practice MJER for 8 years, and you didn’t fully understand the Kata’s - did your MJER Sensei don’t teach you about the meaning of them?
Thi s is gold!
There are many iaido ryu. does it possible to list all of them and tell those history? such as mugai ryu
Can you dona vid about tenshinryu?
Would this be the same as what Sokaku Takeda and Morehei Ueshiba knew, or would it been different?
Hello,
where can we find the video you had on Junto?
Are you doing lessons for this specific style?
Yes, we have started lessons! patreon.com/lets_ask_sekisensei?Link&
Are there any "long form" kata in your ryuha?
