- One time Young One, brilliant in Bottom and all round lovely fella, Adrian Edmondson goes for a picnic.
Carpool Podcast on iTunes @ bit.ly/Carpooli...
ABOUT CARPOOL:
Carpool is an online show hosted by Robert Llewellyn (Red Dwarf, Scrapheap Challenge, Fully Charged), who gives a wide variety of passengers a lift in a hybrid or electric car and they talk. It's as simple as that. Previous guests include Stephen Fry, David Mitchell, Charlieissocoolike and Jim Jeffries.
Breaks my heart watching this now, knowing the 'Old Man Bottom' will never happen.
Christ we needed rik mayall more than ever right now
same.
The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.....🤔
Initially it was going to happen and then Ade got 'cold feet' and said to Rik 'sorry mate it's not going to work'.
Agree (and I'm Swedish)
Listening to Ade talk about the possibility of doing more comedy with Rik is now
Heartbreaking :( Rest In Peace Mr Mayall
Nods sadly...
Bizarrely only just seen this... And I agree..... Such love between those two.
Dolly241 yeah oap bottom wud be funny af
Just watching this and got to that part, glad there is still so much love for Rik.
Mayall, what an incredible person he was.
The bottom episode where Robert Llewellyn played a one legged falklands veteran in the pub has got to be up there with one of the funniest skits they thought of. What a classic.
Thank you! I knew I recognized him, but I couldn't place it.
As a child of the 80s, it's wonderful to be reminded how I used to tune to BBC2 on a Tuesday at 9pm to watch either The Young Ones or Red Dwarf. This was 1989. You two deserve good credit.
would loved to have seen Rik in Carpool. RIP
me too!!!
wouldn't you like to be a fly on the wall? remember that bit from Young ones?
That would've been hilarious. R.I.P Rik ❤
Would have been hilarious
I don't think it's possible to have Rik in a space that small without some serious damage being done.
Kryten and Eddie, two of my favourite British characters.
Eddie Hitler, Eddie Monsoon or Eddie Catflap? I like Sir Adrian Dangerous best.
vinny142 yes mate
Robert was actually in Bottom for one episode. He played the guy at the bar with the wooden leg.
@@nebularain3338 That’s right! And there was no Straud Hill!
@@ryxnwil oh, oh, you're one of the ones who couldn't find it.
"Edmonson with an O, you CONT!"
I think I just wet myself. Even the second time I'm crying with laughter. This Carpool, Stephen Fry's and Tim Vines are my absolute favourites. Do more!
Its a shame Rik didn't get a chance to be on this, i can imagine the amount of laugh's :)
A shame Ade won't do comedy anymore.
I agree, though if he did do something now i think he and his audience would feel that there is something or someone missing. I wouldn't be surprised if he regrets not doing more Bottom episodes, which they were both working on at some point. It's tragic events like Rik's death that makes me grateful we have more stuff like the new Red dwarf series', we never know when our legendary British comedians are going to leave us.....
Robert would've nearly caused a crash due to all the laughter. I envy everyone who ever got to meet Rik :(
He'll always be Vyvyan to me.
This was by far my favourite carpool of all. Both of you are by far my favourite actors who shaped my childhood and my sense of humour! (oh dear?) Haha! Either way, it would be lovely to see you two in more carpool or some form of watchable entertainment! Legends of the Era Lost! :)
Believe it or not. Mine too.
I wish you kept this up Rob!
two actors from two of my favourite comedy shows of all time.
I wish Adrian would do his own comedy show. Like how John Cleese moved on from Monty Python to do Fawlty Towers. Something completely different yet so classic and hillarious. Best of luck to him either way.
He tried in 2004 with ‘Doctors and Nurses’ but it failed miserably 😔
'My name is Vim Fuego! I let my guitar speak for me!' We love you here out west, over in the States, Mr. Edmondson. Always excellent to see your interviews! :)
There is nothing better than this kind of unscripted conversation between two people with stories to tell.
I can't help but imagine him with the stars on the forehead.
+Dan Pritchett Very Metal.
"I can't go out in the rain, my forehead will rust!"
Adrian Edmondson is in Star Wars Episode 8. Brilliant!!!
Tyvm for letting me know that. I just googled it and seen he was on there. Well, im not into Star Wars or Star Trek, but since hes on it then maybe ill watch it. Thanks!
If I ever find myself in a car with Robert Llewellyn, I'd start talking about "Scrapheap challenge" and how much I enjoyed watching that show, it's a shame it isn't around anymore.
Vivian is one of my favorite characters of all time. I still watch reruns of The Young Ones to this day.
Two of my most favourite actors.
Such an underrated show, I wish there were a lot more
12:30 "Rising bollards... I haven't had that problem for a while".
Rik and Ade are so important in the world of comedy that it hurts my head to think about it. They're my generations Stan and Ollie that's for sure.
Is the driver the one in Bottom who lost a leg in the Falklands?
Yes, ,the poor sod had to yomp from goose green to stroud hill!
There wasn't a Stroud hill in the fauklands
Oh you were one of the poor saps who couldn't find it? How we laughed at you
robert lluwelyn idn't he? Kryten from red dwarf
Ahhh! I was trying to remember who Rob was in bottom! Thanks fella!
2:22-3:08
That would have been great to see. :(
Yes, his character was Mr. N. Stiles, a Falklands ex-serviceman who was at the bar in the episode of Bottom called "Parade". He is probably best known for playing Kryten in Red Dwarf. His name is Robert Llewellyn.
Wasn't he the Falklands veteran in the bottom episode where they pawn his leg to put a bet on a horse. He's got a much posher accent :) Love ade he's great or grate as rik would say. So sad to hear ade talking about rik now that he's no longer with us RIP Rik :(
Yeah, he's the one. I'm a little surprised he didn't mention that, or maybe he did but was cut out for the final edit of the program.
It would have been great to have Rik interviewed in the series too. :(
Jackal Fox
rik was too wild !
they would have had to censor the show down to 30 seconds
:)
Flappo Spammo Not really, he had a wild side but he also had a calm side too. I met him in 2005 and he was one of the most laid buy guys I'd ever met. Mind, still absolutely mad as a brush though, lol.
Jackal Fox yes...and he's also the robot Kryton in Red Dwarf
They both talked about that episode. I can't believe people on this thread missed it. It was on of the highlights of this video
I'm actually shocked at how hard that hit when Ade described a future with him and Rik doing Bottom as old men....fuck I miss the bastard, he still had so much to give us.
I think Ade might have eventually done Bottom again, I think he had some oppurtunities that he wanted to take while he could and a Bottom revival at that time just wasn't where he wanted to go right then. I know that the BBC proposed a Hooligan's Island version for them and maybe that was what wasn't clicking for him just then. The idea of them being older and living together in their little flat sounds more appealing to me.
Ade probably wishes he had done the show with Rik because even if it never got to air, he'd have spent more time with him working on it. It's a shame but no one would feel worse than Ade about not having taking that chance again, I'm sure.
That would've been amazing, but according to Ade Rik wasn't mentally there anymore. Although he miraculously survived his quad bike accident, Rik suffered seizures despite the meds he was taking.
It's more than likely his brain was deteriorating towards the end. Tragically, he was apparently counting how many jokes he had compared to Ade's on his fingers. This was when they tried to write a TV version of Hooligan's Island. Ade knew then their double act was over. 😢
''Eddie...Eddie, 'What' 'it's the wrong leg''
Finchy 'That's the real one!'
Carved by naked Balinese maidens!
@@athendemosh8001
how do you know?
Ade is a British icon.Love his work.
I spoke to Ade Edmondson on the phone once when I was working in a charity fundraising call-centre and Jennifer Saunders' name came up as a contact. And he was indeed lovely, even though he essentially told me to piss off.
😂 I love that
cant believe this came before carpool karaoke & comedians in cars getting coffee
A great 26 minutes ... ty for posting ... really enjoyed that ... but most of all ... r.i.p Rik M. xx
Love it ..greetings from Friesland The Netherlands
Ade Edmonson was brilliant as Malvolio in the recent RSC production of Twelfth Night.
"Have ya got any mooore exploooding carraats?"
adrian is such a funny guy !!!! i met him on Saturday he is such a lovely guy to talk to
"Did you spell Edmondson with a 'U'? It's 'Edmond-son', you Cont!! Hahaha!
So sad watching the beginning when Ade says Rik and himself have a pipedream of wanting to do a Bottom when they're older. It's difficult to comprehend that we'll now never witness this with the sad passing of Rik. :(
Ade seems like a really nice and cool guy.
' Did you spell it with a 'u'?'
'Yeah'
'It's EdmOndson you cont!'
Best bit! Love Ade!
Wish people would ask more about Bad News!
Laughed my ass off at the rising bollards thing where he says he hasn't had that problem for a while!
One of Ade Edmondsons serious roles was in a very good documentary about the Chernobyl disaster called Surviving disaster. Brilliant stuff.
Can not believe such a clear pass was not returned! 12:34. Bollards!... No, it's true! :-)
awww two lovely guys together!
i wish rik was sitting in the back. or maybe they can do one where rob and rik are on a quad bike or something
It was hilarious when Adrian kicked his own head down the railway line in The Young Ones.
Old age is a privilege, not a given.
Wish you well Ade.
'Do not lean out of tge window. I wonder why??!?'
Robert: "Mr. Land Rover's going to try and rear-end me..."
Ade: "...Ooo-er."
"Mum, are you Jennifer Saunders?" - superb.
♥️
Shame our beautiful Rik has gone, we love Ade ❤
Robert's point about twitter and online comments is absolutely spot on. The relative anonymity of the internet allows people to act like psychopaths. No matter how innocuous or benign your own comment is, people seem to get incredibly angry and abusive.
obviously Rik was a national treasure, and Rik and Ade together are legendary and adored eternally, but I always found myself drawn more to Adrian and his style of humor. I guess it's the stiff, relentless and cruel cynicism of his character that has an appeal.
The Young Ones is the epitome of British Comedy! :)
Fantastic episode
Love Ade
thanks! and its about time they made a come back! and hopefuly do more tours like they did and the good thing is now im 20 and i can finaly go and see them live! XD
These two should do a podcast
.."they are going to try to rear end me.."..... "Oo-er!" ade, you amaze me.
My favourite podcast ever, such fun!
I forgot he was on Bottom where he played the guy with the false leg.
I must admit I was one of those people who felt that Ade stopped doing Bottom because he had grown out of it and wanted to do grown up stuff from now on. Now I know better.
Checking in in 2020, Chicago suburbs. Love Ade, best wishes to you, you seem like an old friend. If we ever meet up, you'll see what I mean. Fare thee well, Rik.
Sounds like we could of had OAP Bottom if it hadn't of been for Rik's untimely passing. Life is just not fair.
Eddie! That's the wrong leg.
Always makes me howl.
Would loved to have seen Rik and Ade do one of these together!
At last! An episode with decent audio.
2 former members of Bottom. Ade needs a Red Dwarf role. He did appear in Star Wars. Tick. Krytens co-creator perhaps. Mad Genius a gimme.
Shame I can only like this the once, put a right smile on my face.
My Dad used to do his Jag. I had Ade and Jennifer s number in Chagford
One greatest programs to never happen bottom in a nursing home 😢.
I raise my own beef in Chagford! Ah,the world of the middle classes.
I remember Robert guesting in Bottom as the one-legged Falklands vet'. Hilarious!
What a fascinating show. Love the concept.
Absolutely, well said!
Eddie Hitler! *Woot*!
After you and your colleagues from the Dwarf, obviously the Pythons and the incredibly charming and brilliant Mr. Fry him and his co-worker on "Bottom" are one of the many reasons I'm so deeply in *love* with British comedy. :D
Jolly good fun! :D
yes : ) also he is Kryten from Red Dwarf.
Yes, well spotted
note to Ade.. you were looking at houses in my area, Bridgwater, Somerset estate agents, circa 1994 :D
What?
Well I met Robert Llewellyn last Tuesday and here he is interviewing my comedy idol. I only wish I'd have asked him when Ade & Rik are like. Missed opportunity!!
Ade and Rik are getting back together to do another series of Bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sad to think Ade and Rik had plans for when they were old. Maybe resurrect some old characters. R.I.P Rik.
Thanks for the video. Do u know Brian Paul Edmondson ?
This is warmingly hilarious
It's funny (strange) how that happens. Like with Russell Crowe, Keanu Reeves, River Phoenix, Johnny Depp and a whole host of others. They have this great acting career and all they want to do is live out their teenage fantasies.
Haahaa love Ade and Jennifer ;D
I'm not saying they will NEVER work together again, just that the dynamic between them is going to be a little different than it has been in the past. The two are still good friends, so the chemiostry between them will never change and they still write together, it's when they get on stage or in front of the cameras that things change slightly. Rik's timing and quick wit aren't what they used to be so fast paced exchanges like they used to do in their Dangerous Brothers act may be problematic.
seriously big thumbs up on this, hilarious, hope you get rik mayall in that car soon plz.....
Sadly, I don't believe that will happen. Ade was once quoted as saying words to the effect that ever since Rik suffered his brain injury that working with him hasn't been the same.
Hooligan island bloody brilliant
I'm not sure about Ade's recent direction.......walking around Britain doing cosy Sunday evening grandma-friendly stuff like he wants to be another Griff Rhys-Jones. I always hoped Ade would keep on doing something with a little edge.
And, you weren't the only one thinking that. Rik did too. Of course, now it's fairly too late. RIP Rik Mayall.
arfer Yeah, I thought it really sucked. After doing so much comedy to go to something so drab didnt make sense. He just doesnt suit it imo and should stick to being funny.
Beat Therapy He's became very self conscious in his old age. He's always said he wants to act his age, not look like old punk bands still trying to act like they are in their 20s.
+William Tyndale I LOVE that program, in my opinion Jonathan Creek features some of Britain's greatest scenery. Do you agree?
+William Tyndale The scenery is probably something that would be noticed by Americans.
Kryten and Vim Fuego in a car. This is glorious
thouroughly enjoyed that
well as a sitcom actor who has written most of the characters he has done, it's to be expected. also that's why type casting works, and why the most successful actors portray an exaggerated version of themselves. and i'm not talking about "good" actors because that's subjective.
this video is strange i have seen both since i was 12 for Adrian Edmondson and 16 for Robert and Adrian with glasses and Robert without the kryten head.:D
12:18 HE SAID IT
"Did you see that?!" :D
I SO WISH FOR ANOTHER SERIES OF BOTTOM! SO MANY PEOPLE WANT IT ON ARE SCREENS!!!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!! I WAS BROUGHT UP ON IT FROM WHEN I WAS 12 AND IM NOW 24!!!!!!!REGARDS JOSH!!!!! KENT
One of the most entertaining Carpools yet! So when is Rik going to make an appearance?
Bobby, do a bottom episode with them! (if they continuing) you deserved more time!
love this one and i love ade !!! dude when are you ganna interview with rik mayall? xx
