i watched this video a few days ago, then came home to my St Pete garden today and did some clean up and had the exact same issue w/ a Tropical Sage stalk whose leaves were MUCH bigger than the blooming ones. no flowers, just giant leaves and they were fuzzier as well. I followed the stem down to the ground and it was an offshoot of an existing, blooming, red tropical sage. 🤷♀ i wish i could upload a photo but it looks exactly like what you are talking about at 3:37!
I use a V shaped coffee filter for collecting seeds. I can fold them in the bottom and write on the top. I store them in a envelope rather than a plastic bag as everything I read said not to.
Paper lunch bags are another idea to collect seeds in. You can stick the whole seed head in there, write on it and the breathable material will let it continue to dry.
Last year my cousin made those clay seed balls to throw out in the very back of her yard where it never seems to grow grass. I was surprised how well it worked and her grandkids had a blast throwing them around
I always collect the seed heads and then bring them into the house to empty the pod. The wind always blows them around. I usually put the paper towels in the ziploc and then pour the seed inside the baggie. Then you don't lose any seed. If the seed pods are moist I let them sit out a couple of days to dry out before collecting the seeds. I just moved to central FL (snowbird) and your videos are so helpful to me. I'm a 6B flower farmer in Holland MI. So I'm learning how to FL garden. I need to check out your old videos to help me plant my FL garden.
I am a transplant too. Moved down from NY. Between Jacqueline & Petrina (from HomegrownFlorida) I now have a thriving native wildflower & vegetable garden. Still learning new things from these lovely ladies & enjoying every minute of it. Good luck with your garden, but if you follow these 2 you'll do great.
Funny, I just asked for this video on a comment from your last video, but I see you already had it in the works. Thank you, can't wait to see the clean-up video. My wildflower garden is still at its beginning stage & I want to it make it bigger & expand it into my backyard. Collecting all those seeds & scattering them where I want to add more fullness.
I love watching your videos! I learn so much about planting flowers & vegs in Zone 10 that’s so helpful. In years past I wasted money trying this and that, and they failed. You are actually saving me money! I look forward to each new video. Thank you Jacqueline.
I use the empty tea bags (Amazon & mine were labeled 't-sac') came with 3 sizes, which has been very convenient for me. Love my Wild Floridian Garden Planner!! 👍🏼
Paper envelopes, like the smaller letter ones not legal. Assuming for seeds partially dried already. The paper does keep them drying a bit more plus it kinda breathes. Plus you can write on it :). I so did the same with using paper towels, and kept forgetting to fold them so i could see my writing lol.
Seeds are fun. I found a random tiny seed with its “wing” still attached in a shopping bag the other day. I planted it just for the heck of it. Hopefully it grows just so I can see what it is. I have no idea where it came from. 🌱
I am fortunate enough to have native plants growing in the unmaintained ditches on my street. I am hoping for more neglectful treatment from my county. It means I need to do some of the ditch clearing of water blocking plants off property but it’s a fair exchange. The main paved roads have their ditches mowed which does help with attracting pollinators. I also stick in canna Lillie’s and Malanga in these ditches for stealth emergency food as well as pollution clean up.
I hadn’t. It went through a cold snap right before I left for vacation and I wanted to make sure it didn’t die. I’m shipping orders tomorrow and I’m happy to say it is alive with pretty red leaves! 🍁
Soooo, I was lazy lol. My seaside goldenrod and white astor both went to seed. I got off the entire stalks and just lightly buried the whole things lol. Maybe they'll fight it out underground and the strongest will appear? Lol
I would love to collect seeds but I don't know what part of the dried flower is the seed. It would be extremely helpful if you would show various flowers that you kept and the actual process of getting those seeds.
That mystery plant at 3:30-minute point may (emphasis on "may") be a Bidens alba. I know the leaf shape (being unlobed) is not typical of the usual lobed shape, but I've seen this before in small Bidens alba, mostly ones that are stressed due to low light and cooler temps. I'll be very interested to see what flower it produces. However, maybe a look at the stem would totally blow this guess out to the water.... Otherwise the leaves do remind me of some sort of mint.
I had a monarch come out of its cocoon last weekend. Poor thing couldn't dry off well, it was on the ground with shriveled wings. I took her in for a day, but she kept trying to go outside. Her wings straightened out a bit, but the poor girl could not fly. I put her on my pooleter weed and hoped for the best. So sad.😢
@sarahbhutta251 yes, I did not cut that section back because it kept having caterpillars.i think she was the last one. They are all gone now, so it is trimmed now.
@@KarinK-wt7mh great! Glad you got them cut back! I know it’s hard but you might consider removing them completely since they can cause more damage than help to the monarch population?
I downloaded a free seed packet template, and save my seeds in them. Love my 2024 Planner!
I started collected my own seeds this year and now I have several volunteers everywhere! Free food ❤😂😂😂.
That is a tropical sage they grow big leaves in my garden like that 🦋

Oh I love that! And will prevent me from being a clutz!

I save seeds in the little plastic 2”x3” jewelry bags in the craft section of Walmart and write on them with a Sharpie.
Love that!!!! Sounds like I have a shopping trip in my future

It may be Pokeweed or American Nightshade. Neither ones that you want!! I use "Picture This" for plant identification and love it.

I know we live in different places but we just got out of a week whit 19,4 Fahrenheit I the day and 1,4 ind the night. Thank for a great video
They have sheer bags you can tie over the seed heads and then, they drop into the bag when they are ready. I have not done it yet but want too!
I use paper envelopes to save seeds in You can a large amount of them from the dollar stores.
I love that! So what you’re saying is… I need to go shopping 🛍️ 😄

LOL 😆 At least I’m not alone with folding the paper towels the wrong way.

I use the good quality paper coin. Envelopes. I like black and use the gel pens to write on them. The paper is thick enough but let's the. Breath.
Also you can get more and then share with friends and me lol
😄
I would love to buy seeds from you once you get it figured out. BTW if you shipped the Firebush it hasn't came yet.

@@WildFloridian Wonderful. I will baby it this winter and plant it in the spring. I can't thank you enough for doing this.

Lazy…. Or Smart?????? I like your method.
When is your 2025 Planner coming out? It is so pretty and organized.
The planner will be on Pre-Sale in August and will ship by November 1st.
0:37 0:37 I solved the problem by buying a couple of beehives..😁
I would like to have a list of the wildflowers that you are mentioning.
Where did you find your tropical sage? I am having such a hard time in volusia county 4:34! Been looking for 2 years!!

By any chance could you have tropical milkweed instead of native?
Poor thing. It’s not a great time of year for them to eclose.
