I heard this band on Live From Here on NPR. They said this song was about Paul Manafort.

I guess I’m not up to date on current events because I have no idea what this song is about... But I guess it doesn’t matter because I still find it incredibly emotionally affecting. Love the outro. This is a particularly great band lineup too!

uvedale Took me a second listen and some googling. That’s an occasional drawback with the songs of the week, I don’t always understand what they’re about. But once I do it’s very interesting to connect the lyrics to the subject, and yes brilliant!

Actually the closing line about ''Daddy lied....'' may be in the voice of Paul's daughter. So nice to now have art written about these desperate times. Reminded of the adage -- Victors write the history, but the vanquished write the songs.
