    After using Obsidian for 2 years, a lot has changed, so I updated this video with this one here - th-cam.com/video/cBm95iCcX2E/w-d-xo.html

      LOL! I just spent an hour watching (and pausing your video while I installed these plugins) only to find this update. Seriously, though, as a writer, these plugins will be enormously useful. Now off to watch some videos on Kanban as I haven't used it before.

    A while ago I've been thinking about notes. We go to school to learn things, but rarely we are educated on forms to take notes. They just fill the board with content and assume we know, since we were children, that we know how to get the best notes from that, witch is far from the reality. If we have had some classes about how to take better notes, I'm sure the educational system results would be much better, even more in places like Brasil, where I live.

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree, the education system has some serious reforms to make. Too many to type in a comment! I remember the days where I would just copy everything in the board (which in turn caused me to never listen to what was being said) to only then stare at my hardly legible handwritten notes trying to make sense of it.

      I was taught to take notes six different times and in four different ways in school, and I dropped out by the 9th grade.
      While I agree many fields are poorly taught in western schools, this is not one of those areas. I'm willing to bet you either went to a very, VERY poor school, or you just weren't paying attention to the information you didn't like.
      As someone who's always paid attention in my writing classes, this was never an issue for me, even having grown up in some vastly undereducated areas.

    • @maurolimaok
      @maurolimaok ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffbrownstain In Brazil, the teaching system always was poor, not only because it's bad structured, bud bad professionals too. No interest in teaching, at all.
      To know how to do notes in some organized would have helped a lot, even if not the best.

  • @JuGGerJuGGs

    I have a cool plugin idea: linking suggestions
    An "AI" for lack of better words, that first starts by suggesting links by highlighting all nouns / noun phrases in your writing (lightly so as not to be distracting). If you click the suggestion, it adds a [[link]] (but not a note, just the brackets - you can create a note by clicking it again to create a note as usual). If you do not click any of the suggestions, those nouns / noun phrases are no longer suggested for linking and they are never suggested again. If you re-use the same noun / noun phrase x number of times in the same note and don't accept the suggestion, it too will stop suggesting. Over time, all of the common nouns / noun phrases that you already know won't be suggested, and those obscure new words that you use will be suggested.

    Hi Sergio - Is there a way to use Templater or some other obsidian plugin, to "prepend" the current note name to the newly created note? So if I'm in a note named "Test_Note_Parent" and I select some text in that note... Say I select the word "Child" and type in the doubles [[]] brackets to create a new note. When I click to add the note, it will create the note with the name as "Test_Note_Parent:Child"
    Basically creating a new note with the selected text as the Note name, but Prepending or prefixing the current note name to the beginning of the newly created note?

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I understand your question, that's a tough one, there might be a workaround but I'm not aware of one. You can ask the broader community at the obsidian forum and, failing that, even make a feature request to the obsidian community. If there isn't yet a fix for this and others would also benefit from it then there's a chance it gets made!

      @@FromSergio Did templates change? Yours shows the title your daily note in the tab only, which is that date, and then the contents of the note is only your # questions to answer. When I set up templates, I end up with the title on the tab, and on the top of the page (even if I want the title to be something else) and THEN below that my first # heading. Can’t seem to make it less repetetive.

    are those plugins local to the vault, because if i create a new vault i can't see those plugins

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are local to each particular vault, if you want to easily just "copy and paste " them to a new vault go into your .obsidian root folder where you store your vault (some OSs have it as a hidden file if you're on mac press CMD + SHIFT + (period) and you'll see the .obsidian folder. Go into it and find the plugins folder and simply copy and paste it to that location on the new vault. You can do the same for the hotkeys and everything else!

    I've just started dabbling in using Obsidian and it is slick! For the Amazon Kindle plugin though, couldn't that be extremely dangerous to put login information into a plugin like that?

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jordan, I 100% understand your concern and I was in the same boat myself,. but upon inspecting the code it has no way of storing your logins. Unfortunately in order to use this plugin there's no way around it, trust is necessary. If you prefer you could always manually copy and paste it once you're finished with a book!

    • @eeveefae
      @eeveefae ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true. idk if maybe this has changed in the last year. you can upload the txt file of your highlights using this plugin. you don’t need to connect to your Amazon account. This is what I do. I have an older kindle that I keep offline and use for side-loading books. To get your txt file, just plug your kindle into you computer and look for the “My Clippings” file on your Kindle in the File Explorer/Finder. It’s a bit more work but I don’t mind.

      Malware can happen, it's a possibility when you install any code for any app that can communicate to the internet

    While I really enjoy your explanations and desperately need a way to store and organize my thoughts, this Kanban thing feels like a lot of hassle with little benefit to me, just if you are not really able to have and hold a thought in your head without digital help. Not meaning you personally. No offense. Maybe I need to use it to see it's benefits. The biggest hurdle and CON around journaling and notetaking for me, regardless of app or even doing it the old school way, was always that it is additional work that takes a lot of time with very little benefit. But I will try Obsidian and see if I get better results.

    You CANNOT 'safely' turn off Safe Mode.

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Tubal, absolutely. Its called Safe Mode precisely because of that. Of course any software that can connect to the internet can never be 100% safe. I was simply saying that the specific community plugins I mentioned should be safe. The safety relies on the end user and if someone wants a 100% safe, 0 risk experience they cannot turn that mode off. Should have made that abundantly clear on the video.

    1:57 You turned off safe mode, which told you that community plugins can access files on your computer, connect to the internet, and even install additional programs.
    Which sounds really bad from a cybersecurity standpoint.
    Then you say:
    "I'm in full charge of my privacy and security" 7:59
    Did you read the warning???
    As someone who studies cybersecurity, I don't think it's a good idea to trust random individuals on the internet. Especially when you see a warning like that.

    • @FromSergio
      @FromSergio  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All that you said is correct. What you are missing is that these plugins are open sourced and you're not only welcomed, but encouraged to check the code. I have checked for the ones that I use and so should you. Anything you expose to the internet carries a risk that you can only mitigate, not eliminate.
