- Stranded in a rainy manufacturing city and in need of money, a down-on-his-luck actor accepts a job at Mugivan’s Waxworks. But when dusk falls, the wax figures in the chamber of Curiosities and Horrors seem to take on a life of their own, and one in particular begins to exert a powerful influence over the hapless attendant.

My word, Jasper, getting to hear your voice again in new posts is giving me those old frisson shivers again. I'm glad you took some time for yourself this year, and I hope you will always take time when you need/want it, so you don't get burned out and decide to no longer narrate at all for us, because we would all be the poorer for it. Sometimes when I'm having migraines, I'll put my speaker or device up on the pillow behind my head; it makes me feel like the storyteller is reading aloud right next to me. It helps me relax to have the voice & story to pay attention to. Thanks for all you do! 🙋♀️

Anything to do with waxworks freaks me out. When I was a teenager my friends and I were taken on a private tour by the old watchman (I think my friends gave him a joint or 2) of a wax museum. He couldn't turn on lights so our tour was single file by flashlight. Probably one of the most unusual and creepiest experiences of my life. 😮 💜

I’ve just listened to this while tucked up in bed with a hot water bottle. That was a brilliant reading of a lusciously dark story - mrs Raeburn ending up looking how Francis Bacon might’ve painted her. I couldn’t help but chuckle at mr Mugivan. Thanks Jasper 🙏🏻

Very atmospheric! I felt I could smell the old wax in the closed in dusty rooms...stifling and dingy. Wonderfully read! Thanks so much. It was deliciously creepy.
Wow, I didn't see that double whammy arriving. I used to visit the London Dungeon and Madame Tussauds in London quite frequently. For me, the figures didn't need to be horrors to be frightening. They all seemed to carry an unsettling feeling in the same way dolls can.

I have read much vintage horror, but this one somehow I'd missed.
I have to admit here it was the thumbnail that drew me in. Pure clickbait at any scale.
Yet I assure you, this is not clickbait or bait-and-switch, but a picture perfect rendering of the woman in the story.
Thanks Tipi. I was thinking I need to up my thumbnail game if I'm going to succeed at TH-cam 😄. Instead of the title and author, I could have this fetching mannequin, a picture of me shrieking, and call the video "I spend night in SCARY WAX MUSEUM WTF!!!!" 😄

This one was really scary. I'd love to know who you based your Yorkshire accent on? I used to live in a village in Barnsley (Penistone, and no, that's not a typo), which I'm totally convinced Royston Vasey was based on, I've met a few Mr Mugivan's in my time!
The Yorkshire accent? In this case I was thinking of a chap from Sheffield I used to work with who was really into his Human League and Heaven 17. And more recently, when we watch "All Creatures Great and Small" as a family we all like to mimic the characters, so I probably had in mind a bluff Yorkshire farmer mithering about "vetnery" not knowing why his prize cow has a limp.
@@EnCryptedHorror I used to love a bit of Heaven 17 and Human League back in the day when I was young and carefree. I grew up in Sheffield, so I have a very strong Yorkshire accent, even though I haven't lived there for many years. I think you did rather well actually, given that you've usually got a posh voice 😁

Oh wow! I've passed over this one a couple of times whilst indulging in your back catalogue through a long and frustrating injury, thinking it to be another quote excellent story about a waxwork (Burrage? With the horrible little doctor?) So glad i decided to check it out once more though, and discovered this little gem!
