I saw Bill back in Dallas in the early 1980s. We used to go see him every Sunday and Monday we could. Such a great entertainer and band leader. He is missed.
I always loved BS&T. David Clayton Thomas was the perfect singer for this group, and brought such emotion to the stage. The sax player, Bill Tillman, was bigger than life. I had the good fortune of being a part of his cover band in Dallas for several years, prior to his passing. He was the consummate performer. RIP my friend.
I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting Bill Tillman in the 80's. What a class act! He did a benefit concert for an employee of a friend of his. She had a life-threatening condition. He didn't have to do it, got no recognition for it publicly, but didn't hesitate. Great musician with a big heart--So respect that man!
In those times mike stern used to play more clear and neat to much better than today’s , I’ve seen mike playing many times lately and he plays his guitar with phase shifter effects the whole show and make it sound monotonous , after his preforming I heard comments from his fans saying they want to listen to Mikie’s guitar with no effects………
oh man, so sorry to hear that...Billy was my favorite musician in BS&T..he added so much to the horn section...brilliant on the sax with incredible energy and charisma. The Lucetia McEvil interaction with DCT was unforgetable. Best wishes to you and your Dad...there will never be another like him.
To the mikebudd1.... Fantastic video. I feel like not only am I watching incredible music but also that I am watching it in 1986. Wonderful! ... NOt a slam .
I remember watching this on CBC back when, next day we all thought the guitar player with BS&T kicked all the other guitar players on the show to the curb never knew who Mike Stern was at the time
I saw this band in Charlotte in 1976. I think the lead player is Forrest Buchtel... (Former Ellington/Herman lead player). Great musicians! Not my favorite iteration, but they carried on in fine form when pop music trends weren't going in their direction. I have audio of the complete show. I think it was called "The Amazing Blood, Sweat and Tears".
@@GiddyUp1776 I saw your dad perform with B, S& T in 1976. That band sounded MUCH better than the unfortunate recording that tour supported. I thought the horn section was terrific. But it bore little resemblance to what one hears on "More Than Ever".
The Difference of BS&T that stands apart from other Horn Soul Rock Groups was they were the Founders Originators of Melding Jazz with Rock and Fusion with sprinkles of Blues And Horn Arrangements extremely Tight a Rhythm Section that was Bar None the Greatest Bobby Colomby Drumming opened a whole new world for Drummers and Here is Roy McCurdy a Tremendous Jazz Drummer who fit right in having Soul R&B FUNK Background and David Clayton Thomas is one of this Eras Greatest Singers
Unfortunately my father, Bill Tillman, seen here on the sax, has passed away. Please post and share this video as a tribute to his memory. Bill was an amazing father and musician. He will be greatly missed by all whose life he has touched. RIP May 14, 1947- August 15 2012
Will somebody PLEASE release (or post a link to) this entire concert? I think it runs about 45 minutes long. I have the audio of the whole thing but not the video. Thank you.
Would you PLEASE POST the entire 45-minute long broadcast? Or failing that, show a link where it can be purchased? Thank you. I have the audio from when it was first broadcast, but I didn't own a VCR yet. Thanks.
I was saddened to hear of your father's passing yesterday. I moved away from DFW years ago and had not heard of his illness. Be blessed in knowing that he brought a lot of joy to audiences with his passion for music.
Does anyone know who is playing horns between Tillman and Bargeron? I've got this around '77...or does everyone know this or otherwise. Colomby is gone but Stern is still there.
Forrest Buchtel and Tony Klatka. Buchtel played lead for Woody and Ellington and Klatka played the Jazz chair and arranged for Woody Herman. Fine players, just not Soloff or Winfield. They improved that band to death by breaking the mould and consequently nobody could fix it. They should've started a new band with a new name without that tradition bearing down on them. Of course the recognition factor was a big problem had they done that.....no win scenario.
@@Ricktpt1 my father had a band called Rodan……so bands were started and not marketed well. Today with the ease of the internet, Rodan would have been a “hit”. My father also played lead in MALO….check out Dance to my Mamba…..awesome
Drummer is Roy McCurdy...who is famous for being with Cannonball Adderley for 10 years. He also in on the "Brand New Day" recording. Bassist is Danny Trifan.
My dad is Bill Tillman, the sax player, and yes, even at 65 years old, a stage 4 dialysis patient, he can still blow his horn like he was in his 20's

Your father was a legend in the saxophone world!!! You have every reason to be proud of his accomplishments!
The incredible young Mike Stern on guitar!

I loved Billy……always remembered he was from Texas. He and my father were also great friends.
The absolute best trumpet player I've ever had the pleasure and honor to play with.
Hello Sheldon……..I remember you when you lived in our home in Orinda as a kid. Hope your doing well.

Lead trumpet is Forrest Buchtel.
I am from Germany and and a great fan of B, S & T . I love also Bills great Solo in B,S & T "Spain" from Live & Improvised.
Great! I'd love to see the other guests on the show too! Looks like a lot of nostalgic fun!
Forrest is an unsung genius of American music.
I knew your dad well back in the old days in Houston. He was a truly great musician and I was proud to know him. My sympathy for your loss.
This clip made my day, brilliant. Thanks for sharing!

So sorry to hear about your dad. I saw BST many times when Fred was still there. But your dad sounds great!
Great. Roy McCurdy (of Cannonball Adderley fame) on drums. The year would have been 1977.

Put all those people together and you get half a real celebrity.
