    Dave Bargeron is one of the best contemporary tuba players without question!! We need more musical groups that incorporate brass instruments including the tuba like BS&T did. I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Bargeron and David Clayton Thomas at a BS&T Concert at Indiana Central University, now University of Indianapolis, when I was a student photographer for several years from 1975 to 1978. I was also a tuba player in the University's concert band and brass ensemble and Dave Bargeron gave me a few tips as well as invited me to attend the BS&T's concert after party which was Fired Up!!!!!!l

    Absolutely mesmerizing! There is no words to describe Dave Bargeron Tuba Tour de Force! Swing, pitch, musicality, swing and range! This is the Tuba and probably Trombone solo Par Excellence! Dave Bargeron leaves his audience speechless to say the least. . .

    I saw them in 1975? In the Philharmonica Berlin. It was an amazing live performance. David Burgeron played the Tuba as it was a little flute - unbeleavable. David Clayton-Thomas a singer of its own. Every member of this band was an extraordinary musican! Just amazing and unforgettable!

    The Live and Improvised double CD album was released in the early '90's; it documents live tracks from one or more(?) 1976 performances.

      Mara I suspect you're right - this is from DBs's wikipedia entry. "With this group he recorded the jazz-rock solo on the tuba in "And When I Die/One Room Country Shack" on the album Live and Improvised (1975). "

    I have it still on cassette, but very bad recorded, mono. I searched this solo of Dave for a long time, finaly Wolfgang shared it..Many thanks for it. With such a rythm, it's the best solo for me. D C Thomas perfect and the whole band excellent. And the audiance recognised it, perfect.
    Does a CD exist of this concert?

    Should have had the guy playing the tuba on the thumbnail, tho.
    And during the tuba solo...
    There is a picture of a guy playing the barytone in the thumbnail and during the tuba solo 😋

      It's Dave Bargeron playing his Besson euphonium - he's truly a low brass specialist, having played this kickass solo on tuba, which is likely his Eb Besson. But he smokes equally well on trombone.

    It or a performance very similar to it was reissued by both CBS/SONY legacy as a live concert from Japan. First on LP (in around '75/'76) and then on CD (With the title graphic "Live and Improvised" which when viewed tended to look-unfortunately-like "Live and Improved") and again by Wounded Bird a few years ago. Audio wise the CD's are all about the same. If you find the LP's (2) grab 'em and growl. And if you know somebody who can translate Japanese, send me their email address! lol...it's a fine record, but much more "love" was lavished on the "new" tunes than their "standards". I always cringe when I hear Lucretia played "be-dip, be-dip, be-dip, de-dip-dip....." You can't hear the inside harmonies....

    What kind of recording is this? It's next to not listenable, or actually: It's not Listenable. How about reposting it and make a serious effort this time?

    • @sundeyism
      @sundeyism  7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hey Hipeycknut,
      it's a radio-cut recorded on analog-music-cassette !!
      Therefore the quality is poor, but it's rare and 40.000 were able to listen !
      What's your problem ??

    • @Hipeycknut
      @Hipeycknut 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Wolfgang!
      Well, that's of course, an all different ballgame, and I see now that my comment can seem somewhat grumpy, which not was my intention.
      Sorry 'bout That.
      I was just so hung-up in searching for the 1976 Live-Album Version :-)

    • @BrunoGebarski
      @BrunoGebarski 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think Hipeycknut, if you understood what Dave Bargeron plays on this Tuba you would forget about the quality of the recording which is I think AWESOME because it is an original one: Dave Bargeron is the only musician in the world who can deliver such a solo on a Tuba like he does: it is truly a "tour de force" well known among us musicians as a classic in Technic, jazz musicianship and command of the instrument: Please consider Dave Bargeron as the Miles Davis of the Tuba, who incidentally plays also the trombone magnificently well...
