Legend has it the Beatles' Helter Skelter originally said 'Mary Spender' in place of 'Helter Skelter' but that version was unreleased. Just like this lost song of theirs.
Supposedly, most of The Beatles' songs were originally about Mary Spender, but their record label forced them to use other names "for the sake of originality". The band also wanted to be called The Beatos, but the pun on 'beetles' was too good to resist in an era when the Volkswagen Beetle was trendy.
I can totally hear George Martin saying something like that in his best diplomatic constructive criticism voice. " It's a great song, John. Really spiffy. Perhaps, we should try with another name, for originality's sake" @@InventorZahran

That is an old "Yardbirds" trick from 1965. The Yardbirds would always through the middle of the song go from 4x4 to 7x8 time up tempo. Then they would return to the original tempo for the last verse. ( not the Beatles).

That really is super sweet. You can tell that they are sincere guys. Probably dads, and are genuine fans of Mary. They’d buy you a beer at their bar gig. Awesome all around.

Mary Spender - I checked out the song on Spotify, and decided to listen to the rest of the EP. The four tunes are actually quite enjoyable to listen to. They are well-structured and well-played. How I heard about you? You had done a duet with Leo of Frog Leap Studios, that is on TH-cam. “Sultans of Swing”(?), I think the song was. Very nice to listen to, very enjoyable to watch.
I have not watched everything you’ve posted, but what I have seen has been interesting/nice/fun. The first video that came to my mind was when you played music in an empty church in a remote part of the (UK). The acoustics of the place was remarkable.

I think this was clearly flattering. All three did great on their instruments. It was done out of a sense of genuine admiration, and it was way better than any song ever written about me.

If I did this I'd expect a knock on the door by the FBI or at the very least put on some list. They'd ask why I didn't learn my lesson after releasing my song entitled: "Can I be your lap dog Taylor Swift."
'Jeremy Bender' (a fun song by ELP) came to mind first, since the name rhymes with 'Mary Spender'. and i can't deny that i wanted this 'Mary Spender' song to be an imitation of it. :D That would've been a two-in-one tribute; to ELP and Mary Spender

I am old enough to remember in 1978 The Police released a song called "So Lonely "and when interviewed by Sue Lawley from the Nationwide programme she asked why did they write a song about her.... confused response from Sting and cringe moment for Sue... When watching this I was desperatley hoping this was not going to be one of these situations
