I actually thought something bad happened at first because he was still so overwhelmed and with tears in the eyes, but then I saw the smile on his face and his excitement when he explained everything, and it was just priceless... In 2008, I went to Austin, TX and tried to busk as a 16yr old, kinda as a social experiment. I met so many amazing people and I made just enough money to get a PB&J sandwich downtown. A barber overheard me just riffing the blues and offered me a coke. I love that man and I'll never forget that.
So kind of you! We may never know the way we changed someone's life with a kind gesture. But it's enough that we just want to give without expecting to receive!

I've been busking for awhile, and have been filming buskers for my TH-cam channel (along with a lot of live bands etc.) for years. And I've met some very talented musicians along the way. A few years ago, I lucked into a prime busking location where the street was blocked off so that diners could eat outdoors at a half- dozen restaurants. I made thousands of dollars that summer. So many musicians got our start by busking. Love Mary, she's a musician's musician!

I've now have retired from 30 years of playing Salsa music, I've played for mostly dancing crowds and some weddings, however we did make it all the way up to the Hollywood Bowl. The name of my formal band is Son Mayor from Los Angeles. My true passion is playing guitar and singing, And my dream is to someday play on the streets, any streets where there's a bussling crowd, I'm filled with terror and excitement. I was a cook at a mom and pop diner/bar with an awesome regular who collected guitars. My wife and I gave him a ride home one night, and he was so grateful. I'd jammed with him before, the next time we jammed, he gave me a vintage Marshall LEAD 20 with a 1967 Fender Mustang and thanked me for taking extra care with his sandwiches and food.. I've found myself cooking again years later, but I've never stopped playing. This is beautiful, and i know what he is feeling. Makes me tear up.
I miss busking... It truly tells you who loves music and who doesn't. The many walks of life are all out there on the street and musicians get see it all walking right past them. Vegas, LA, Santa Monica, Seattle 2010. The world needs more of you Mary. Never stop loving! Peace be with the meek, and the humble of heart.
Great post. I busked my way through some lean years on the Toronto subways, in all seasons. Met and played with many different musicians, heard a lot of stories, had some sketchy run-ins. It was a very humbling as well as uplifting experience. It's not an easy life. Warmed my heart to see you help Oscar out. God bless.

I had to have a little moment there when you gave that guy the guitar, not lyin' brought a tear to my eye. Just got my Acoustisonic back in May and it is probably the best all round guitar I have played in my life. I have been playing since I was twelve and I'm 70 now. I've been "fighting" (busking) for my whole life. I'm 60 years old now and it's been 40 years since the first day I put up my rig in a pedestrian area in Hanau, Germany. I still remember it as it was yesterday. Been around a few places ever since, lived in Ireland (Ennis Co. Clare), where I had the best time of my life busking and playing the pubs. I will do this till I drop dead on the street. That's my destiny and nothing else. Such way of life is not for everybody, I can tell you but it's the best for me. I wouldn't change a single day. So far, so good.

I've been "fighting" (busking) for my whole life. I'm 60 years old now and it's been 40 years since the first day I put up my rig in a pedestrian area in Hanau, Germany. I still remember it as it was yesterday. Been around a few places ever since, lived in Ireland (Ennis Co. Clare), where I had the best time of my life busking and playing the pubs. I will do this till I drop dead on the street. That's my destiny and nothing else. Such way of life is not for everybody, I can tell you but it's the best for me. I wouldn't change a single day. So far, so good.
