  • Even wonder what it would be like if two distant analog TV stations were available on the same TV channel? On July 30, 2005, DXing conditions were right that allowed not only TV channels from Boston to come, but for channel from NYC to come in as well!
In this video, I transition between the two stations by rotating the TV antenna. The starts with a news cast from WABC-TV Chan 07 from NYC and ends with a news cast from WHDH-TV Chan 07 from Boston.

The real analog TV soup! Saw and heard that on lots of channels during heavy tropospheric propagation.

This is exactly what it looked like if you ever had the chance to watch T V. (analog) or a portable t.v. in a plane while flying over N.Y. on your way to Boston

Two signals cutting across one another. This happened heaps of times on the Analogue single.🇦🇺

Rarer now with digital TV, but was cool to see back in the analog TV days.

Co channels in DVB-T2 aren't rare here, but without a spectrum analyser, it is hard to recognise. My settopbox doesn't show signal strength when two channels collide, just no signal. When I measure the spectrum, I can see the German signal underneath a Dutch signal because the German is a tiny bit wider in bandwidth.
This measurement enables me to predict the moment of successful decoding.

I have had this happen on FM Radio in Ocean City MD where it was two different stations on 99.3 one from New Jersey and one from Virginia was coming in
The video I made will go up next week

Ya, that can happen with FM if weather conditions are just right. It's fun when listening to a local station as it shifts back and forth to a distance station.

What software/hardware did you use to transfer the video from a VHS tape (or other source) to create the file you uploaded? My software (Elgato Game Capture, but I use it for capturing old VHS video) cannot handle unstable video like this one. I have lots of recordings of distant TV signals from E-skip and tropospheric bending but haven't figured out how to do a decent transfer of them.

TV Tuner is a stand alone ATSC 1.0 tuner from LG. Capture device is the Hauppauge-WinTV-PVR-USB 2.0The tuner was sending out that picture image over composite video to the USB device. So the tuner just captured what it saw.
Oddly enough, the video looks even better on the PC it was recorded on. Not sure why it looks not as great on every other PC I try. (By that, I mean it looks like you were watching the tuner struggle between the two signals as if it were live!)

Analog TV. Receiver was picking up two TV signals at once. Whichever was strongest was shown.

@@andywolanoh that's why they had to switch to digital

@@JeepLamboGamingno, they switched to digital so the FCC could auction off the frequency spectrum formerly held by channels 38-69 (614-806MHz) for more cell phone use.
